Do I need to renew FOID?

Recommended Posts

If you do not renew your FOID card your CCL WILL be revoked.

If it’s stupid, it’s Illinois law.

Here's how stupid it gets. I am a new resident of Tennessee. Sent my FOID and CCL into the ISP office. Sayonara.

But if I come to ILLannoy, and go to a store to buy ammo, I can, and don't need (or have) a FOID.

So I have more of a right to buy ammo in IL than an Illinois resident, who needs a FOID.

Now THAT'S stupid!

Sorry, one quick question guys. About the weight on the FOID renewal. Does it matter? I stupidly changed it on my drivers license the last time i renewed. On the FOID application, I just went with whatever popped up from when I first registered 10 years ago (this is my first renewal). Hit continue until I got to the payment part and then it clicked in my brain that maybe I should've went with what I have on my DL. I went back to fix it and the system wont allow me to edit the application...I'd hate to get denied for something so silly and it expires in less than a month. And what you've guys mentioned in this thread, my CCL will be revoked apparently.

Good luck finding a store that will sell ammo to an out of state resident. They’re too scared.

You might want to look at the comments of lockman in a different thread for guidance. This is a link to his most recent post.

I think your three cards (DL, FOID, CCL) all need to have exactly the same address.

I can't point you to an answer. Perhaps someone here can...

Addresses are the same, it's just the weight. I gained 10 lbs lol. I told the DMV about my new weight and now it's different than my current FOID and CCL. But I just renewed FOID with the old weight (didn't submit payment yet, though) and nobody is answering at customer service line of course. Was wondering if keeping the old weight the same is ok or not. I've heard they are sticklers for this sort of stuff.

Sorry for continuing off topic but most will sell rifle ammo to residents of contiguous states but beyond that it gets iffy due to (430 ILCS 65/3a):

(b ) Any resident of Iowa, Missouri, Indiana, Wisconsin or Kentucky or a non-resident with a valid non-resident hunting license, who is 18 years of age or older and who is not prohibited by the laws of Illinois, the state of his domicile, or the United States from obtaining, possessing or using a firearm, may purchase or obtain a rifle, shotgun or ammunition for a rifle or shotgun in Illinois.

As long as the address is good, I dont think you will have an issue with the application and weight. I recall reading these discussions when CCL applications began and dont think weight needed to match the way things like address e.g. rd vs road, ct vs court, etc did Edited by InterestedBystander

Sorry... I misread your post early this morning!

While I plan to never move... weight is entirely a different matter.

Regarding ammo sales to nonresidents, I don't think there's much "iffyness" about it. This is well discussed at the following link:
