Researchers at Johns Hopkins University are hoping to capitalize on the student-led gun safety movement by offering a free online course, which begins Monday, to teach the academic research and strategies they say are the best weapon to curb gun violence.

Gun violence experts put the course together after hundreds of thousands of people many of them students participated in March For Our Lives last year, calling for tighter gun laws.

"Following the shooting in Parkland and the youth advocacy that we saw, we noticed there was a gap in knowledge," said Cassandra Crifasi, the deputy director of the Center for Gun Policy and Research and one of the core lecturers for the online course. It's called Reducing Gun Violence in America: Evidence For Change.

Surely Michael Bloomberg cant be connected to this at all, its just....... DOH!!!!!

Philanthropist, business leader, and three-term New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg will commit a record-breaking $1.8 billion to support undergraduate financial aid at Johns Hopkins, the university announced today, the largest-ever single contribution to a U.S. college or university.
"This historic gift reflects Mike Bloomberg's deep belief in the transformative power of higher education and his insistence that it be accessible to all qualified students, regardless of financial means," Johns Hopkins University President Ronald J. Daniels wrote in a message to the university community today. "It also affirms Mike's profound devotion to this university for the role that it played in enriching his life."

No no no no no! Stop it Steve!

To make this even more laughable, just earlier this year

https://www.baltimor...impression=true

Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire ex-mayor of New York and benefactor of the Johns Hopkins University, said Tuesday its ridiculous the institution doesnt have an armed police force.

When you have a city that has the murder rate that Baltimore has, I think its ridiculous to think that they shouldnt be armed, Bloomberg said of the Hopkins security force.

You just cant make this up

Bloomberg said having an armed police force would put Hopkins on par with other colleges that already have them. Bloomberg said its irrational for Hopkins not to be able to have the same security as similar schools, especially given its large number of employees. The Johns Hopkins institutions employ nearly 45,000 workers in Baltimore, making Hopkins the city's largest employer, according to the state Department of Commerce.

One of the things I do hear all the time from people who are trying to decide where their kids are going to go to college, they are worried very much about the crime rate, and when they want to go to a hospital, they worry about the crime rate, Bloomberg said.

A group of Hopkins students called Students Against Private Police expressed dissatisfaction with Bloombergs remarks. In a statement, the group said Bloombergs support for a private, armed police force is at odds with his other work to promote gun control.

I wonder: How many acts of "gun violence" does one have to commit in order to become "expert?"

This one’s better:

When asked if anyone from gun rights organizations was invited to participate as faculty in the course, the response was blunt.

"No, we did not. For a variety of reasons," Crifasi said.

In the course announcement there is a reference to "Policies to Reduce  Gun Violence in Illinois - Research, Policy Analysis, and Recommendations". The 10  Executive Summary recommended actions for Illinois should be reviewed along with the document.  I don't see how any of those actions would reduce gang violence or the ability to get guns illegally.  Maybe a counselor in presence at the night basketball courts would help. Maybe availability of "legal" drugs at state outlets would help.  Maybe less severe criminal sentencing would help.  Maybe I forgot how to use purple text.

Oh well...……….

Note that there is no reference to any of John Lott's research (Crime Prevention Research Center).

Of course they wouldn't !  They can't have somebody there that might possibly teach these young people how to PROPERLY and SAFELY handle firearms.

I gotta remember that one.

I wonder what these LWW would say if some conservative university was to start offering a class on how to defend the Constitution and would only have instructors who were pro Constitution?  I bet LWW heads would explode!

Do we have any volunteers to take this "free course"?

You can be sent for "deprogramming" if needed, afterwards.
