Interesting complaint filed in DCD today by three individuals seeking to overturn the District's ban on stun devices. Specifically Tasers. All three Plaintiffs are trained in the use of firearms but would prefer a stun device as opposed to being forced into a situation where lethal force is the only option. They do not want to deal with the ramifications of a DGU. Named plaintiff has had her life threatened. A second plaintiff has been a victim of armed robbery, twice. The third plaintiff simply wants one for self-defense, rather than a firearm. The complaint contains multiple citations regarding the ineffectiveness of OC spray. Simply put, Plaintiffs desire a means of self-defense that does not (usually) result in lethal force.
