Agents Try 72 Times to Buy Guns Illegally Online - Result Will Only Shock Gun Control Advocates

JASON HOWERTON | JAN 4, 2018 | 12:06 PM

The U.S. Government Accountability Office recently set out on a quest to illegally purchase firearms on the surface web to test how existing laws are enforced.

They were unable to purchase a single weapon during the covert program.

The GAO revealed its methods in a recent report:

Our covert testing involving GAO agents attempting to purchase firearms illegally on the Surface Web were unsuccessful. Specifically, private sellers on Surface Web gun forums and in classified ads were unwilling to sell a firearm to our agents that self-identified as being prohibited from possessing a firearm. In our 72 attempts to purchase firearms from private sellers on the Surface Web, 56 sellers refused to complete a transaction once we revealed that either the shipping address was across state lines or that we were prohibited by law from owning firearms. The scenarios we applied to the purchases were derived from provisions in the GCA. The five scenarios disclosed status information that would disqualify our agents from purchasing a firearm. For example, in one scenario we stated that we were a convicted felon; in another scenario, we informed the seller that we had a dishonorable discharge from the military. In these 56 attempts, 29 sellers refused because they would not ship a firearm and 27 refused after we presented the scenario.

Furthermore, in five of these attempts, the accounts we set up on several forums were frozen by the websites, which prevented us from using them after we disclosed our prohibited status or requested interstate shipment and attempted to make a purchase.

...

Even attempted gun purchases on the Dark Web proved more cumbersome than one might expect.

Agents attempted seven times to buy guns on the Dark Web but were only successful twice:

Agents made seven attempts to purchase firearms on the Dark Web. In these attempts, agents did not disclose any information about whether they were prohibited from possessing a firearm. Of these seven attempts, two on a Dark Web marketplace were successful. Specifically, GAO agents purchased and received an AR-15 rifle and an Uzi that the seller said was modified so that it would fire automatically. GAO provided referral letters to applicable law-enforcement agencies for these purchases to inform any ongoing investigations.

Little known fact, but the Bible and every other core religious text actually says that when confronted by such a refutation of erroneously held beliefs, the mis-beliver is required by all faiths and creeds to have a physical representation of the information that puts the lie to those false beliefs, in the form of a tablet or scroll, forcibly inserted the entire way into the offender's eye socket, so that their brain can directly receive the correct knowledge in a way that it cannot avoid it, even if only corporeally should the mis-believer refuse to embrace the truth.

"Yea, I say unto thee, when the truth stareth thee in thine face, when thou hast believed wrongly otherwise, then the word of god and man demandeth the truth spake on tablet or scroll be lodged in its entirety into thine eyes, to the seat of thine mind and soul, so that thou needs must know such truth inescapably unto death, if thou refusest to praise it."

So, when the GAO "agents" did come into possession of firearms illegally, were they arrested? Not being law enforcement agents with the agency FFL protecting them like actual police, aren't they prison-bound?
Also, who were the "Congressional requesters"?
And why did they waste how many tens of thousands of dollars on this "study"?
Finally, since when is the GAO authorized to perform law enforcement activities including potential entrapment?

Not very accountable.

Report said that in the 2 instances the GAO referred the cases to local law enforcement.

Reading elsewhere, a comment by another individual stated that the two dark web purchases were only agreements, not actual transactions where money and merchandise were exchanged. It's very likely that they stumbled into a dark web honeytrap to steal bitcoin twice. I've not verified this, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly what happened.

And why didn't they disclose disqualifying stuff to make the comparisons consistent?

I'll throw out the canned response that it is imperative that firearm owners stick to the straight and narrow...

...with that said, the lengths that federal employees go to to bait and trap firearm owners into committing crimes is disgusting.

One last thing...why is the GAO conducting this? How is something of this nature even in their wheelhouse?

If it is those three, then all I have to say is good, nanner, nanner, nanner.
