IGOLD 2012 various discussions

For some reason EVERY year some folks seem to be to bashful to enter the building. It sure would look great if everyone would come inside and FILL EVERY SEAT. The antis would not put that picture on TV.

As it is many seats are vacant every year giving proof that there are not many folks interested. Just look at the pictures and see all those empty seats.

Next year come inside and fill ALL of the seats. We need you there as well as in the parade and the buildings

I ran into a guy yesterday with a USCCA sticker on his truck, we were at a gun shop and he was saying that he wished he could get more info about what's going on in RTC.

I told him IGOLD went well and showed him pics. He asked why IGOLD was so secretive..... I pointed out the flyers still on the wall and mentioned this site and ISRA. He claimed to have never heard of either!

I can't imagine having an interest in RTC or even guns at all and not knowing about at least the ISRA. Oddly enough, he seemed well versed on HB148.

At any rate, I think he's pointed in the right direction now. I wrote down some info and handed it off to him so hopefully he will get more involved.

I think it's pretty common. Most of the people with whom I bring up IGOLD have never heard of it. In fact, before I accidentally stumbled on this board a few years ago, I never knew about IGOLD, ISRA, or how much progress we've made in Illinois Gun Rights. And I was always interested in guns. I had just figured that it was impossible to ever even come close to any rights here in Illinois. This is why education of the public is such an important point. I think many, many people are interested once they know we actually have a chance.

I never knew about IGOLD until just a few days prior to the 2012 event. I have been following the CCW issue but mostly from following the bills through the Illinois legislative website. I did attend this year's event with a friend and we had a great time. Others are mentioning filling seats, I am not sure just where those seats were. I wasn't so sure about pulling doors open (unescorted) and some I did walk past that looked like they had committee meetings going on. Also wasn't sure if we could just walk in and out of those. Maybe there could be better guidance along those lines at future events. Getting into the Capitol building was a feat for sure. The group I was with was instructed to enter at the Stratton building. That was a pretty slow process and we missed the chant in the rotunda. That would have been awesome to see and be a part of. How does one arrange a Town Hall meeting for their home town?

Welcome to the forum. There is a thread with everything you need to know about arranging a town hall meeting:

THM Thread

I think the seats referred to were in the PCCC. There were some folks sitting outside waiting for the parade to start.

Hunterdale, you simply go to the Town Hall forum and start a new topic. Just be warned, if you ask for a Town Hall Meeting, you're in charge unless you can find a patsy to take it over (don't use that word . . . say "more qualified than me.")

I think the time has definitely come to start trying to get more people to come inside and take a seat during the speakers' time. That will be something for the marshals to work on. I plan to keep in touch with a core group made up of marshals from last year and this year; you're all my witnesses, I commit to sending something out to the list at least once per month. We're beginning to have people with years of experience with IGOLD, so it may be time to delegate some leadership to some patsies more qualified volunteers. For instance, last year or the year before, somebody had the idea to pass collection buckets for donations, so we ran out to Menards at 9:30 the night before and then made the buckets in Mike's hotel room. This year, we had six buckets and three lids left, but as far as I know, nobody thought to plan for them (I know I didn't.) Maybe next year is the time to delegate that to someone who can take care of finding good people to collect donations all day long and people to be responsible for the money.

Almost everyone drinks coffee. Start saving the cans AND the lids now. No need to spend a lot of money on containers when there are so many coffee cans going to the recycle bins every week.

We can pass them down the aisles at the PCCC just like the baskets at church. When we reach the Capitol building they can all be collected.

This is just an idea. We still have 51 more weeks to polish the edges. :)

{caution - male perspective follow}

I've been to every IGOLD since it was called IGOLD. One year I got "volunteered" to pass the 5 gallon buckets and it was really wonderful to see people open their wallets to fund IGOLD. There are a lot of authentic patriots in Illinois.

The next year the buckets were passed by some of our female patriots and for some reason they seemed to find the bottom of the wallet more than when I did it?!? Heck - this year i dug pretty deep myself.

Just a thought. Whatever works!!

In an article on the day's activities in the Legislature the Chicago Tribune casually mentioned that "more than a thousand" gun rights activists were in the capitol.

Yeah...more than a thousand...try about 6000 - 7000.

The media is just not capable of telling the truth. :)

Let's be sure not to stretch the truth ourselves or our complaints about the media are null and void. There were not 6 thousand of us.

How many thousand normally go through security on another Wednesday? How many of the 10,000 that went through (securitys estimate someone said) were for IGOLD? Maybe we could take a picture of everyone in the march and count everyone? I've mentioned that 6000 or 7000 figure myself, I wish we could have an "official figure" to use!

I do not think we will ever get an accurate count of the folks.

When we reach the Capitol building there is a group of IGOLD colors already at the doors and inside. How many more folks are there without the IGOLD but are there to help the cause is almost impossible to know.

Next year someone should try to get pictures of how many folks are are still on the streets leading from PCCC to the main drag when Molly B reaches the Capitol building.

Are all of us on the main drag or are there still 1-5 K still at PCCC and on the move. How many more arrive by private vehicle after we are in the complex is another question.

Questions Questions Questions?

The PCCC wesbite says the main room holds 4400 at full capacity. I took photos all through the presentation and I think at most, the room was at about 50-60%. I was thinking that there must be more people so I went out in the corrider where the tables were set up to see niof there were people out there and there were maybe fifty people there. Wandering outside, I looked at both the south side and the north side for people and again, there were maybe fifty folks waiting around for the march to start.

While I think "1,000" as an estimate is really low I doubt seriously if there were more than 2500 total.

Sorry, just my perception. None of the photos that I have seen would lead me to believe there were any more than that.
