..."The Associated Press asked the candidates for Illinois governor a series of questions about how they'd address the issue.

Six Democrats are seeking their party's nomination on March 20: state Sen. Daniel Biss, businessman Chris Kennedy, billionaire J.B. Pritzker, regional schools superintendent Bob Daiber, activist Tio Hardiman and physician Robert Marshall. In the Republican primary, Gov. Bruce Rauner faces a challenge from state Rep. Jeanne Ives.

Q: Do you support legislation to license businesses that sell guns?

All Democrats said they support a measure pending in the Legislature, with Biss signing on as a co-sponsor.

"It doesn't make any sense that you need a license to sell a service like cutting hair, but not one that sells guns," Kennedy says.

On the Republican side, Ives says businesses that sell guns are already strictly licensed and regulated and "it is naive of anyone to say differently."

Rauner says he opposes efforts to license firearms dealers at the state level because dealers already are regulated at the federal level. He says adding more red tape would be duplicative and raise costs for small businesses that ultimately would be passed on to "law-abiding citizens seeking to purchase firearms for the purposes of home defense, hunting, and recreational shooting."

Q: Do you support a ban on assault weapons, high-capacity magazines or bump stocks such as the one used in last year's Las Vegas shooting?

Rauner says his general philosophy comes from a bumper sticker he saw while hunting downstate that read: "If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns." He supports "common-sense restrictions that keep assault weapons and high capacity magazines out of the hands of criminals and people with mental illness while safeguarding the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens" and is open to legislation specifically banning bump stocks.

Ives says she supports GOP legislation limiting bump stocks. But high-capacity magazines "matter little in the gun debate" because most gun crimes are committed with handguns, "for which there is a natural limit to the capacity of the magazine." She says "You cannot talk about assault weapons without defining the term" because there are a dozen definitions of assault rifles and "throwing around terms without defining them feeds the hysteria of those who oppose all private ownership of guns."

All Democrats support bans on all three items, with Daiber saying high-capacity magazines and bump stocks should only be banned outside of firing ranges."...

I kind of like the fire started with this...

Republican state Rep. Jeanne Ives:

“The problem is the gun violence in this city of Chicago, predominantly. And you know how you’re going to solve it? Fathers in the home,” she said. As the audience booed and shouted, she repeated, “Fathers in the home.”

That and actually making criminals that use guns, or are caught with them, etc actually SPEND time in prison.

How could anyone with a living brain cell boo that?

The Democrats, of course, dismiss out of hand that social pathology such as the huge numbers of young men growing up in single parent homes (or zero parent homes) might be a significant cause of criminal behavior because it is their policies that have created this social dysfunction. Fifty years ago a Democrat, Patrick Moynihan, then a Senator from New York, warned that the welfare programs intended to help single parents actually encouraged the proliferation of such "familes", with all that goes with single parent families. Even when black speakers (like Bill Cosby when he was universally admired) try to get their own communities to recognize that it is the culture in their communities that brings about the violence, gangs and shootings, they are shouted down. People would much rather believe the Democrat liars who tell them it is not their fault, but the fault of an uncaring government that has not done enough for them. To even imply that the lack of a father in the home is a problem is called racist and "blaming the victim". Governor candidate Kennedy is quoted in the Tribune today dismissing Ives' comment as based on "ignorance and stupidity" and of course the media accepts this as left wing wisdom. There is no hope for these cynical Democrat "leaders" and little hope for the people of Chicago who will keep electing the same people that have created their nightmare and who tell them, election cycle after election cycle, that they have the solution. Of course no solution results, which these same Democrats will blame on everyone but themselves, especially the NRA and law abiding citizens who support the 2nd Amendment.

Democrat Kennedy calls Republican Ives' gun crime solution ignorant and stupid

Democratic governor contender Chris Kennedy abruptly left a candidate forum Monday, criticizing Republican candidate Jeanne Ives for what he called “ignorance and stupidity” after she said Chicago’s gun violence could be solved if more fathers stayed in the home.

The controversy came when Ives, a three-term conservative lawmaker from Wheaton who is challenging Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner, responded to a question on curbing gun crimes.

“The problem is the gun violence in this city of Chicago, predominantly. And you know how you’re going to solve it? Fathers in the home,” she said.

As the audience booed and shouted, she repeated, “Fathers in the home.”

Kennedy later got his turn to respond.

“Well, I wish I could agree with you. I didn’t have a father in my life. Somebody shot him,” Kennedy, the son of the assassinated former U.S. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, said to Ives before he left the forum amid applause and a standing ovation from hundreds of attendees.

“But when I hear such ignorance and stupidity aired out by someone who knows so little about so much, I don’t think there’s an appropriate place for them to be on a podium on a dais with other people who have given these issues thought and have the emotional capacity to be empathetic at the same time,” he said.

So what does one do if political Armageddon comes and we go over the left cliff? If one has spent many years amassing a collection of firearms that interest him, what does he do with many of them that could be regulated out of existence in Illinois. What would any here do? Where do you dispose of a large collection in a state like ours. This is very troubling.

Since Robert Kennedy was killed, a lot of changes have been implemented to gun laws with debatable effect and yet they demand more.

Since about the same time, the black family has been dismantled and encouraged to remain so thru money and the results are blatant.

The stupidity and arrogance on display wasn't as Mr. Kennedy nor his audience saw it; it was cloaked and well disguised and living in their own houses.

As I see it, they have no idea what I own. All they know is I am legally able to own firearms, no more - no less. They will need a search warrant to come look inside my home. By which time anything they find offensive will have made its way to my cottage in Wisconsin.

If one of those Democrat clowns gets elected I'll blame the voters who didn't vote for Rauner because he wasn't the perfect candidate.

An anti-abortion candidate is unelectable in Illinois, that's reality.

Whether a gun rights candidate or gun control candidate gets elected will come down to turnout, and I fear many in the GOP base are upset with Rauner for his signing the abortion bill so they'll stay home. Then besides losing the abortion battle they'll lose their gun rights on top of it.

IMHO just because you lost some territory in the war shouldn't mean you surrender the fight and lose everything.
