2017 Fall Veto Session

The Legislative Fall Veto Session is rapidly approaching. Both the Illinois House and Senate are scheduled to begin October 24 this year, and run through November 9. In keeping with custom, IllinoisCarry has published a list of bills to watch. It can be found in our online forum .

Among the bills listed are several being promoted by IllinoisCarry and other groups, intended to advance our right to carry and protect the Second Amendment from the typical anti-gun assault. With the world turning its attention to the recent tragedy in Las Vegas, however, other measures have taken prominence – measures that require our unified attention and action!

It should come as no surprise that several varieties of firearm bans have been offered in both legislative bodies. The most recent, HB4107 Assault Weapons Ban, includes prohibitions on attachments like bump fire stocks that earlier bills lacked. But, while the focus is largely on that bill, we cannot lose sight of HB3734 Assault Weapons Ban and SB556 Criminal Law Tech (a firearm ban in disguise). All of these represent threats to our liberty that must not be ignored!

Our vigilance also continues to include SB1657 Gun Dealer Licensing along with it's companion bill, HB2541. Many will recall that the Senate version of gun dealer licensing passed over to the House last last Spring. It can move now with little warning.

And, in a direct slap at the Moore and Shepard rulings, two prohibitions on carry in places of worship currently threaten the very basis upon which carry was achieved in Illinois. We continue to monitor HB3499 Concealed Carry Church Prohibit and it's recent Senate counterpart, SB2231 Firearm Concealed Carry Church.

Beginning tomorrow, please contact Representative Linda Chapa LaVia. Encourage her to remove herself from sponsorship of HB4107 Assault Weapons Ban. Remind her of her oath to protect and defend the Constitution both as a legislator, and as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. She can be reached in her Aurora office at 630-270-1848 and in her Springfield office at 217-270-1848. She can also be contacted by email: lindachapalavia@il83dist.com

Please also contact your own State Representatives throughout this week, and next. Tell them no bans on firearms and accessories! No dealer licensing! No bans on carry in church!

Contact information is available here.

I sent this:

Dear Rep Linda Chapa LaVia:

I am asking as a resident of Illinois to please remove yourself and ultimately vote NO on HB4107, the "assault weapons" ban. Please be made aware, "assault weapon" is a made up political term that works on half the population.
I am NOT from that half. By reading the bill, you see simple cosmetic features classify it as "assault."
I am asking you to uphold your oath to the US Constitution (which includes the 2nd Amendment) and vote against this politically opportunist exploitation of a tragedy. Even the most anti-2nd Amendment US Senator Dianne Feinstein admitted that no law could have prevented the Las Vegas tragedy.
Please do the right thing. We are watching. And we VOTE.
Thank you,
Casey Cameron
