Kwame Raoul said Wednesday he is running for the Democratic nomination for attorney general, saying he wants to pursue criminal justice reforms if elected. ... "Attorney general is the state's chief advocate, its chief lawyer," said Raoul, 52, of the Hyde Park-Kenwood community. "I think my record speaks to being an advocate for victims from my work on policy that protects domestic violence victims to my work with the attorney general on trying to fight manufacturers of synthetic drugs, my work to fight the heroin trafficking, my work on criminal justice reform, law enforcement reform, workers' compensation reform," he said. ... Mr. Raoul's record also includes chief sponsorship of SB1722 Sentencing Various, now law, intended to increase mandatory minimum sentencing for some fairly minor offenses. Those who follow the legislature will recall that he bravely forged this path to increased rates of incarceration in the face of opposition from his own caucus, many of whom refused to vote for his bill in deference to their constituents' needs. It will be interesting to see, if elected, how quickly our prisons are filled beyond capacity through implementation of his own legislation. Chief Illiniwek Posted September 21, 2017 at 12:39 PM Share Posted September 21, 2017 at 12:39 PM I read in yesterday's SJ-R that Scott Drury has announced he will be running for the AG seat, also, rather than running for governor.

Drury took a stand against Lisa's father, the holder of the IL Dem purse strings. Remember Ken Dunkin.
WitchDoctor Posted September 21, 2017 at 03:48 PM Share Posted September 21, 2017 at 03:48 PM let's figure out a way to stop this before it starts. That guy loves his slush funds and the insane ideas he spews. I do not. He is not what we need right now, or in that case ever.

I know he was the only D to not vote for Madigan for speaker and ended up losing his committee chair (and stipend) because of it.

Chief Illiniwek Posted September 21, 2017 at 09:55 PM Share Posted September 21, 2017 at 09:55 PM Over on the Republican side Erika Harold is running for AG. Jim.I'm not quite sure what to make of her, although I'd have to say it'd be nice to have a Republican in that seat. She'd be better than any names I've seen up to now. She ran in the primary a couple of times in my congressional district against Rodney Davis.

I see that she got 41% of the vote in the 2014 Republican primary running against Rodney Davis for U.S. rep. Davis got 55% of the votes.

JTHunter Posted September 26, 2017 at 06:50 PM Share Posted September 26, 2017 at 06:50 PM Another thing to remember is that Kwame Raoul is just another Shicago damocrat that is in the party's "back pocket", just like Rahm, Madigan, etc. He would be worse than Lisa but by how much is the question. As for voting, in only one Presidential election did I vote "D" instead of "R". That was because the candidate had the courage to tell the American people that we needed to pay our bills. I knew then and there that he had cooked his goose by saying that but I felt that any candidate who had the "strength of character" to tell the electorate a truth that big deserves a chance. That man was Walter Mondale, the first candidate to have a female V.P. candidate. Geraldine Ferraro.

Xwing Posted September 27, 2017 at 06:30 PM Share Posted September 27, 2017 at 06:30 PM I will be voting for the one with the R by the name and never for the one with the D Of course. I do that in every election. But with an Illinois state-wide election, those with a "R" next to their name face a very steep disadvantage. Even when the D is a total worthless crackpot, they will win in the vast majority of cases.
skinnyb82 Posted September 29, 2017 at 07:49 PM Share Posted September 29, 2017 at 07:49 PM Voting for Harold. Don't need to think about it. That bubble next to the candidate with "®" next to his or her name is what will be filled in. Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk
kevinmcc Posted September 30, 2017 at 10:34 PM Share Posted September 30, 2017 at 10:34 PM I sadly watched the whole interview. I really hope Chicago does not force this guy on us. He'd make an awful AG.
quackersmacker Posted September 30, 2017 at 11:35 PM Share Posted September 30, 2017 at 11:35 PM I will be voting R as well, but in a state where hopefully it actually makes a difference, instead of in ILLannoy, where an R vote is just an exercise in futility. Outta here soon.
