I think it is under ;

(430 ILCS 66/65)
Sec. 65. Prohibited areas.

(17) Any stadium, arena, or the real property or

parking area under the control of a stadium, arena, or any collegiate or professional sporting event.

Professional sporting event?

Oh gosh I didn't even think of this - I used to race and spectate there all time time.

I hope they're not posted!

(@poat54) I don't think that applies - I think (17) applies to your Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey etc... I don't think "drag racing" is one of such types of "sports"...

I feel your pain, man. I am a racing fan too. But where in the law do you see anything that defines "professional sports" as baseball, football, hockey, etc. I think the racers would beg to differ with you if you tried to say they are not professional athletes.

Oh no, I agree with you completely - and trust me I thought about that as I posted it; but I posted it thinking from the pure viewpoint of our legislators...

I will not refute that racing is indeed a "sport", and also will not deny there are "professional" racers too!

Especially going off of the verbiage "stadium", "arena" - racing doesn't really require a "stadium" or an "arena" (sure they have the term "real property", but I believe only as a "coverall" or "catch all")...

Also as I stated; I've "ran" at byron more times than I can count! So I'm not merely a spectator, I myself "race". I probably should have pursued it "professionally" - I LOVE speed!

Well, if they are posted (Byron) maybe it's legal to carry at "The Grove" - Great Lakes Dragway in Union Grove, WI - Or US 41 in (Morocco) Indiana...

Please do keep us posted and let us know if Byron is or is not posted! (thanks!)

Those are the only 3 tracks I've been to, and know of, in the "immediate area"...

Well whats the alcohol situation? Can you bring your own or concessions? If they allow that then I will leave my weapon at home anyways.

Because guns automatically become dangerous when in close proximity to alcohol?

Back to the topic at hand, I love how a simple question (Is it posted?) turns into a discussion about whether or not it should be posted, with various people trying to justify their reasoning for why they think it should fall into one of the prohibited categories.

It's obvious from the discussion that it's not an obviously prohibited location, so again, the only question that matters is the one that was posed... is it posted?

I don't understand why so many people here try so hard to make something fit into a category so they can claim it should be posted.

Am I really in the minority here in that I just want to carry on with my life, now with the added bonus of being able to carry a concealed handgun? It really is that simple to me.

For example...

Tonight I'll be shooting in a weekly pool league that I belong to. The bar we're shooting at tonight has a small kitchen (the occasional burger or personal pizza is ordered), 2 or 3 "gaming" machines, a jukebox and a pool table... it is not posted.

Should it be? Don't know... don't care... not my responsibility to figure it out. All I care is that it's not currently posted.

And to add to the insanity, I'll likely have a beer or two while I'm there.

Playing pool, drinking, and carrying. It's a wonder I'm still alive.

This. Also the OP should get in his car now and find out and tell all of us and end this thread.

We have to know as the suspense is killing us. Pun intended.

People still go to Byron?

YES. (tho I havent been back to byron for a couple of years)

Heck..I would likely be going this weekend for a few trips down the track in 'black bird' if I didnt have to take the 'silver bullet' into my local speed shop for a new stage iv transmission....(A fellow car nut invited me for this weekend)

Everything is already built...the Vigilante TC is back from PI after being refreshed and restalled. She gets dropped off this weekend and goes up on the lift on monday.

Weeee!!! (at Byron)

As for it being posted...I dunno...

I have only gone there for T&T's (test and tunes)...

Would such a day be considered an 'event' that would prohibit carrying? (shrug)

It's the only place I can race that is close. 66 frowns on no cage in a car. I refuse to cut up my street car. 100% functional power everything and a/c.

Byron lets me bust off mid to low 10's all day. I drive there swap tires and drive home.

Btw he alcohol situation is BYOB. They do not sell at the track.

I have never been to a drag race thought it might be fun to check out I'm not going to carry if I have a few beers while there. I'm sure I would be fine to carry and have a few but I never do that. If I drink the gun stays home. Why ask that its posted? Just wondering so if people want to make a discussion out of it whats the big deal. Sorry I asked.

Ok I emailed (which I should have done in the first place)and got a response already. Which said "Good question but I would suggest to leave it at home something that I want to find out in the future we are controlled a lot by insurance regulations hopefully this makes sense.Thanks." In other words he doesn't know. Case closed.

Never ask them if they are Posted or not. Bad idea. Now you have put the thought into their heads and they could Post because you brought it up. Better to go and find out and not bring it up to them. Like hey do you know your sign isn't compliant? Don't do it. Leave well enough alone.
