jc2601 Posted November 8, 2017 at 04:50 AM Share Posted November 8, 2017 at 04:50 AM Very interested in where Todd landed and how he will be funded. NRA-ILA has seen their last cent from me, but depending on where Todd lands and how he's funded ... Curious if you could explain more what that statement means? All I'm saying is that my understanding is that lobbyists get paid (Heineken and ammo don't magically appear). If NRA fired him, then I'm sure folks like me would be interested in donating to help fund Todd's efforts. (Unless it was a certain downstate manufacturer that's tryin to save face) All conjecture, but darn tooting I would like to support the most effective guy in the state who has helped me keep my guns
AlphaKoncepts aka CGS Posted November 8, 2017 at 04:51 AM Share Posted November 8, 2017 at 04:51 AM You are assuming the NRA fired Todd, however only 4 days prior Todd was lamenting on facebook as weather or not to send an email. Was it possibly an email of resignation? I'm not jumping to conclusions, but there is the chance Todd may have resigned his position for this new position.Let's just wait before we jump to any conclusions. RacerDave6 Posted November 8, 2017 at 09:48 AM Share Posted November 8, 2017 at 09:48 AM Remember too that he was not employed by the NRA, but that his lobbying company was contracted to represent them. Maybe he got a better offer.

Hazborgufen Posted November 8, 2017 at 07:31 PM Share Posted November 8, 2017 at 07:31 PM I'm concerned that with the recent electoral wins yesterday that the Democrats will feel emboldened and will come after gun rights with a vengeance. Especially any fence sitters that might think a vote against guns will be seen as a vote against Trump. Perhaps this changing of the guard was a little premature? Then again, in this state it's almost never a good time for our side to shake things up.

AlphaKoncepts aka CGS Posted November 8, 2017 at 09:30 PM Share Posted November 8, 2017 at 09:30 PM Ok it's official. Todd put the press release up on his facebook page... The Federal Firearms Licensees of Illinois, (FFL-IL) a non-profit trade group for federally licensed firearms dealers, welcomes Former NRA lobbyist, Todd Vandermyde to their group.FFL-IL was formed this year in response to continued attacks against Federal Firearms Licensees by anti-gun and anti-Second Amendment groups who want to regulate gun dealers out of business.During his tenure with the NRA Todd worked tirelessly with Licensed Illinois Firearms Dealers to protect their businesses. Most notably in the spring of 2017 against SB1657 the dealer licensing bill; it is Todd that kept dealers informed and helped to organize dealers to fight this damaging piece of legislation. Todd was a driving force in the conception of The Federal Firearms Licensees of Illinois (FFL-IL) and our goals to represent its members in Illinois.“I spent over 25 years defending the Second Amendment and Illinois gunowners at the legislature. This is a new chapter in my work for the Second Amendment. This is a chance to build a new grass roots type organization and continue protecting the right to keep and bear arms here in Illinois.” Vandermyde said.Vandermyde is seen as the quintessential authority on firearm laws and policy in Illinois. Having consulted on several landmark lawsuits like Shepard vs. Madigan, Wilson vs. Cook County, Gowder vs. City of Chicago and People vs. Diggins, Shepard vs. Madigan led to the 7th Circuit court of appeals striking down Illinois’ prohibition on concealed carry. He is also the author of several state laws and changes including Illinois law on straw purchasers and unlicensed gun dealers and our current unlawful use of weapons / transportation of firearms law. We look forward to his insight and experience as this organization stands for the rights of Illinois Firearms Dealers.

chicagoresident Posted November 9, 2017 at 07:02 AM Share Posted November 9, 2017 at 07:02 AM I've been a 2a supporter but I hate the NRA politics, especially in the last month. If Todd is part of a new group representing FFL's in Illinois I'd love to donate and would proudly display their sticker on my car. **** the NRA,they've never represented the interests of firearm enthusiasts, they just want money for Rhino's to campaign with. AlphaKoncepts aka CGS Posted November 9, 2017 at 05:08 PM Share Posted November 9, 2017 at 05:08 PM By no stretch do I hate the NRA. IN-fact quite the opposite. But no group nor organization is perfect. My critique, I wish they would be less partizan. I wish they would focus solely on gun rights and stay out of religion and immigration. I wish they would compromise less on gun laws. But like others have said, I couldn't image where we would be without the NRA. Simply imagine our concealed carry law and how worse it would actually be. Imagine we wouldn't even have a carry law because it was NRA funded (partially) law suits that got us the ruling.

tkroenlein Posted November 9, 2017 at 06:33 PM Share Posted November 9, 2017 at 06:33 PM Various gun rights groups should expect bashing when they promote anti gun legislation like HB4120. I'm not saying that they don't generally represent us well, just that a gun forum is the right place for criticism from within. Of course, I don't agree with the statement above. I am the NRA. Thirdpower Posted November 9, 2017 at 07:53 PM Share Posted November 9, 2017 at 07:53 PM Oh my lord yes. The 'conversation' I had today. Basically went "The NRA controls Congress w/ money". Me: They don't spend nearly as much as other lobbyist groups. Other: Politicians should listen to their constituents, not lobbyists. Me: You mean like the 5m+ NRA members who vote? Other: Only a small fraction of population. What about the rest? Me: What about the rest? How many members do gun control groups have? Other: *avoids subject* The NRA spends millions to buy politicians. Me: Like Bloomberg buying elections? *examples given* Other: Republicans suck. I've got my issues w/ NRA politics but overall they are our 'elephant'. Whatever anyone thinks of the NRA, the fact is that the liberals hate them and fear them.
