NRA is in deep financial trouble and may soon 'be unable to exist'

...The National Rifle Association (NRA) has said its suffering from substantial financial issues that could cause the organisation to "be unable to exist".

In a recent court filing, the powerful organisation that lobbies on behalf of gun makers, owners and campaigns against almost all gun regulations, said it had lost its media insurance coverage due to an aggressive campaign brought on by New Yorks Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo. The campaign encouraged companies to cut ties with the gun lobbying group. A lack of liability insurance threatens to shut down the groups multi-million dollar media entities, including NRATV, its own streaming channel.

"The NRA's inability to obtain insurance in connection with media liability raises risks that are especially acute; if insurers remain afraid to transact with the NRA, there is a substantial risk that NRATV will be forced to cease operating," the group wrote in its complaint, filed in New Yorks northern district court 20 July. Defendants concerted efforts to stifle the NRAs freedom of speech and to retaliate against the NRA based on its viewpoints are causing other insurance, banking, and financial institutions doing business with the NRA."

NRA no longer has to identify major donors to the IRS

The complaint goes on to allege that other companies are being forced "to rethink their mutually beneficial business relationships with the NRA for fear of monetary sanctions or expensive public investigations."...

And in a related story:

NRA has major financial issues - but could it really collapse?

...The National Rifle Association (NRA) may be the most powerful gun lobbying group in the world.

Each year, the organisation blocks significant gun control research and legislation in Congress, while influencing local and national elections through funding, media and outreach to its self-reported five millions members.

This week, however, the NRA became the focus of a national news story not for falling prey to an alleged Russian spy, or failing to respond after a deadly mass shooting, two issues the group has recently endured about its supposedly dire economic state. ...

Former print newspaper, now digital only. Further review, several stories seem to perhaps lean liberal/left.

There is also a RollingStone article on this discussed elsewhere...but the title didnt reflect the story

None of this sounds like a statement of the current financial condition of the NRA. Rather, it is language of the sort typically found in court filings laying out the possible consequences of the actions of the defendant, if those actions are allowed to continue. The people writing articles about the imminent demise of the NRA have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

Which should surprise nobody.

Any of this based not on the lawsuit?

That's like writing and fact based article on "pain and suffering" lawsuit statements.

I think so. The NRA is being over-the-top in their legal filings (b/c that's how such things are always written.) And the left-wing media are taking it to mean imminent demise, b/c that's what they want to happen...

The NRA is no where near broke.

They may not be able to offer a specific insurance product anymore, but that does mean they will go broke.

This is legit "fake news". (legit fake news.....ironic)

The NRA will use it to ask for more contributions, the media will use it for click-bait headlines. Whatever......

Hi 2smart,

Out of money -- unlikely by a huge margin.

But if they cannot get insurance for their employees, buildings, museum, training and range activities, and so forth, it's a huge problem to try to go forward with their typical range of programs and services. And if credit card and banking organizations start to refuse to do business was with them due to external pressures, it's a vast practical encumbrance as well.

That's all I'm saying.

Well, it looks like Cuomo may well have overstepped his bounds, and this could mean deprivation of rights under color of law:

Federal Judge Says It's Plausible That Andrew Cuomo Violated the First Amendment by Pressuring Banks and Insurers to Shun the NRA

Good, have to keep slapping them down in the courts. Better make them payas well.l
