Texas leaders were starting off a difficult week Monday following the Santa Fe High School shooting that left 10 dead by staking out vastly different positions on the future of gun control in the state and the nation.

During a series of interviews over the weekend, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo were at odds over a solution, with Patrick warning against a legislative overreaction against law-abiding gun owners and Acevedo complaining that thoughts and prayers were not enough.

"Texas Lt. Gov. This statement sums up the whole issue of this 'discussion', or lack there of, nationwide.

To Acevedo, apparently, it's a zero sum game, either more gun control laws, or nothing? Well, Chief, there ARE other steps that can be taken, that have nothing to do with more and more restrictive gun laws. Oh, something like not making Schools the biggest soft targets in the land, can be considered.

Most Police Chiefs should be ignored as they are puppets of the city council and mayor's office.

Few have the balls to speak what they think, and if they do they are often fired.

The Sheriff on the other hand is a different story in most cases. Cook not being one of them.

Exactly. Police chiefs are party hacks hired by the Mayor to toe the Mayor's line.
