Yea if anyone knows anything about selling illegal weapons its jolly Olly.

Whats next Ted Nugent President of the NAACP....lol

He sold guns to anti communist rebels and attempted to arm another Iranian revolution. Too bad he's not replacing Lapierre.

I spend a ton of money at Brownells, but they need to keep their corporate image clean. Olly's a guy you hire when you wanna get stuff done.

Uncle Ted would be a fine representative for any organization. He is blunt with his words but does not struggle to get his point across. He is fueled by passion. The NAACP would be lucky to have him. Why always hate on everyone who gets appointed to a political position? It is a common trend some may have noticed.

ACLU national director calls NRA tactics "model worthy of emulation"

Unfortunately the ACLU is understanding the NRA model from their mission statement and members being politically active. He kind of glazes over how the NRA has been acting lately straying from their mission. Kind of like how the ACLU has been straying from their mission and narrowing rather then broadening their appeal. Both would benefit by broadening their appeal and making sure their mission statements were compatible while letting the NRA run the gun stuff.

If Olly is actually going to be an active president in their strategy rather then a wind up show pony like Heston then it will be a good thing. If they're going to make him a talking head it will ultimately backfire, most people on the left and the right have too simplistic of a worldview to forgive Iran-Contra.

From what I understand, the President of the NRA has no real power to change things within the organization. Wayne and Chris hold the vast majority of power at The NRA. From what MAC said, right after the Bump Stock statement from the NRA, Pete was dismayed, or something to that effect. MAC knows Pete, I don't... so I assume what MAC said is true.

As for North being named president of the NRA, meaningless. The President of the NRA has very limited power within the organization. I think he gets x many hours of jet use, and some goodwill. In Pete's case, I'm sure he thought it was the right move at the time. He's a pretty famous guy with a pretty well known business. I was not 1 bit surprised when he did not seek a second term. It speaks volumes about the true goings on inside the organization to me. (Pete walking away, that is)

Marion Hammer for better or for worse was very active in the day to day of the organization leading up to, during, and after her presidency. I would say she's right up there with Lapierre and Cox running the organization. One thing she has rallied for is a more active president rather then a celebrity.

I guess time will tell. Olly would be a stupid celebrity appointment so I'm hoping he's there as a strategic appointment. Otherwise they shoulda put Colion Noir in that spot.

Oliver North to become next NRA President

This is the only thing I can imagine that could possibly cause me to renounce my lifetime NRA membership. What a pompous pile of warm stinky dung filled britches he is... I've worked with him.

Wow. Talk about different perspectives! Maybe my experience was more dangerous and he was more valuable to my survival. I consider him a total hero. There are lot of people who feel the same way. Look at his record. Sorry you had a bad experience with Ollie, but I would ask you to look at the possibility that maybe whatever happened with you vs. him was some kind of outlier event.

That said, I'm thrilled that Ollie North will be the new NRA president. I think this will actually induce a power shift to that job, and gradually away from Cox and Wayne. No one like us can identify with those guys. Ollie is a guy's guy. It will have ramifications. The NRA will be perceived as much more of a gun owners group than a gun makers group. And Dana will continue to rock. Stay tuned. Have faith!

By the way....It's late at night, and the left wing, and the Main Stream Media is/are already going NUTS over Ollie getting this job. Even at this hour. You can't believe the crap they're saying. Their fury says everything about their panic.

Guess what, folks?! I kind of think it breaks down like this:

"You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use then as the backbone of a life trying to defend something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you," and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest that you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to."

I kinda think Ollie's gonna go this way. We've been too damn wimpy. For too damn long. Thinks are a'changin'. I think the future of the NRA is very bright. SoundGuy, please stick around.

You mean of course LtCol North. He's a good choice for NRA President. American hero, author, well known, generally well respected and he pisses the left / moonbats off to no end.

He's got exactly zero real power in the organization .

  • 3 weeks later...

I went to school with North, and I served briefly in the same command with him, altho we were not personally acquainted. I say this to know where he comes from, what matured him. Yes, he is a combat hero and rightfully earned his military retirement.

But he misappropriated funds for his personal use, destroyed White House evidence, and violated several Congressioanl bans. He has done nothing since to regain my trust. In these times, why in the world the NRA would pick someone with a tainted reputation, regardless of his conservative views, is beyond my comprehension.

As a Life member you had a vote, and you could have campaigned for someone else.

Like another poster, I worked with him when he was working for Reagan. Whatever he did seemed necessary and he fell on the sword when the **** hit the fan. Yes, some of that money went for his, and his family's, personal security. When Joe Biden ask him why it was necessary, he replied that he had been targeted by one of the most dangerous individuals in the world - Osama. Of course Biden didn't know who that was and doubted the danger.

I was fortunate enough to meet and get to know Heston when he was the NRA President. I believe he was very important to the growth of the NRA, just as I believe North will be. I thought he was a very good choice given that others would not take the position because of the time and loss of income involved in doing so.

The truth however is it would not matter who was elected to that position - there will always be people who are going to be unhappy with the choice. People who step up and try to make a difference are always going to offend some people. It is the way things work. If you truly think he was a bad choice, get involved and work to change things in the next election. You walking away from the NRA does not help anyone, including you.

Agreed. Colion may be young, but he has a great message and lacks Ollie's baggage.

Him, and Adam Kraut . . .

http://www.adamkraut.com/

Who better to represent firearm rights policy than two guys who are lawyers who have the most comprehensive legal knowledge of that subject of anyone you can think of. If you've ever watched The Legal Brief, or seen Noir's writing, those two can go all Trey Gowdy on the anti-firearm clown-crowd.

Or, how about Trey Gowdy himself when he retires after his latest term? That is, if he doesn't end up on the Supreme Court.

An empty chair on a stage would have been better than North.

Although I think they've drifted from their mission statement and have some serious conflicts of interest I've been converted on the effectiveness of their recent strategy.

They doubled down on their lefty triggering and now they can sit back and watch the memberships roll in.

They also get free PR when people made them the only obstacle in gun bans, it massively overstates their effectiveness to the benefits of current and prospective members.

They don't even have to issue public statements on school shootings to get the PR that emboldens member drives.

My lefty friends used to roll their eyes and say "nobodies going to take your guns". Now we have prominent politicians running platforms on literally changing the constitution.

The left made them go from the verge of bankruptcy made worse by the Trump slump to a massive membership surge.

I think Oliver North MAY be speaking at Effingham later this year.

I don't know as much about him as you do.

I don't know Trey Gowdy's philosophy on guns and the 2nd amendment; but he is certainly brilliant and articulate. If he is strong on the 2nd, I think he'd make a great SCOTUS member.

There are some others who would have made great NRA Presidents. We'll see how Oliver does.
