cls74 Posted June 7, 2017 at 05:52 PM Share Posted June 7, 2017 at 05:52 PM Sorry to bring back a topic, but the one thread I was wanting to reply on in my search has been archived and no longer repliable. In it, back in February of 2016 Molly had said that there was a recommendation for a training expiration in rules but it had not been implemented. Was this ever implemented or an expiration set? Getting several coworkers together to take a class and want to make sure I am relaying the right info. Some are concerned they cannot afford the class and application fees at the same time. Curious if there is a length in time now in which they must apply after taking the training, or if it is still the same and only recommended to not wait over a year, etc... Thanks
spaceman spiff Posted June 7, 2017 at 06:03 PM Share Posted June 7, 2017 at 06:03 PM I did my training back in June 2015, moved, moved again, and finally applied in June 2016 and had my card in hand in early August 2016.
spec5 Posted June 7, 2017 at 06:03 PM Share Posted June 7, 2017 at 06:03 PM Reading section 75 I see nothing about an expiration only the training must be completed. The fact that nothing was said about a DD214 being valid as proof of 8 hours of training that happened years ago for many should also show no expiration. Molly would know best however. Also the training we took is valid for the five years until we have to renew with just a refresher.
Frank Posted June 7, 2017 at 06:10 PM Share Posted June 7, 2017 at 06:10 PM I had a student who took his training in November 2013 apply a few months ago and just got his CCL. I did issue him a replacement certificate (latest template) with the original date. No problems there at all. The proposed changes to the Administrative Rules specified that training would expire after one year. However, these rules were never approved when Todd and/or Molly B. pointed out that several of their other proposed rule changes were in direct violation of law. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to include an expiration on training in any future changes to the Administrative Rules. -- Frank

ScottFM Posted June 7, 2017 at 07:14 PM Share Posted June 7, 2017 at 07:14 PM Training does not expire but proficiency does! In the case of the CCL, if it has been a while, read the law and of course, always practice with your weapon!
chislinger Posted June 7, 2017 at 07:22 PM Share Posted June 7, 2017 at 07:22 PM So you could wait 5 years from training to getting your CCL. But if you get your CCL immediately upon completion of training in 5 years you have to be retrained before you get a renewal. Illinois stupidity at its finest! So you are saying that the expiration date of your CCL should be five years from the date you took your training not from the date your CCL was issued. I don't think you really want it that way. No, I don't think training should be required at all to renew. I was just pointing out that the requirement has no basis in anything except to try to keep people from renewing by making it more difficult to do so.
