Buff1968 Posted May 8, 2018 at 05:13 PM Share Posted May 8, 2018 at 05:13 PM I submitted my FOID renewal app in March and the ISP site shows my new card was issued on 4/24, two weeks ago today. I still have not received the new card. Our mail carrier is not the most reliable for getting mail in the correct mail box. How long should a person wait to see if the card shows up before requesting a replacement? What is the best process for requesting a replacement? Do you use the "Lost/Stolen" button on the ISP site or can I just send them an email explaining the situation and request a new card? I sent them an email last week stating I had not received the new card and to ask for them to check the status. Got a reply the next day stating my card had been mailed and should be getting it any day - then just didn't say what any day was.
spec5 Posted May 8, 2018 at 09:43 PM Share Posted May 8, 2018 at 09:43 PM (edited) Did you apply for USPS informed delivery? That way when the USPS is going to deliver it that day know will know before it hits your mailbox. My understanding from people reporting in the past that the ISP doesn't mail everyday but groups the mailings. If you report the FOID lost or stolen you will have to wait because they will void the FOID they sent. Molly B. Posted May 8, 2018 at 10:43 PM Share Posted May 8, 2018 at 10:43 PM We suggest waiting at least 30 days.
Buff1968 Posted May 8, 2018 at 11:19 PM Author Share Posted May 8, 2018 at 11:19 PM OK, thanks Molly. My concern is that if I report it as not received then I may end up temporarily without a valid FOID. Is that possible being that my card is valid I just don't have possession of it? What is the proper procedure for reporting it as not being received? Hopefully it won't come to that but I need to know what to do if it does. I just don't want to screw up the process of getting the card. I just signed up for the informed delivery service via USPS.

Buff1968 Posted May 8, 2018 at 11:59 PM Author Share Posted May 8, 2018 at 11:59 PM My new FOID # is different from the old one. The new one has the number 14 added to front of it to match my CCL #. So does that mean my old FOID is invalid now even though it does not expire until 7-1-2018? Am I without a valid FOID card right now?

Buff1968 Posted May 9, 2018 at 12:30 AM Author Share Posted May 9, 2018 at 12:30 AM Did that. The "old" number comes back as valid. So I guess I am still legal for the time being anyway. Don't know how long that will last though.

Buff1968 Posted May 12, 2018 at 12:58 PM Author Share Posted May 12, 2018 at 12:58 PM I'm still waiting. If a FOID or CCL is returned to ISP because it was delivered to the wrong address does ISP check the address and resend the card or do they just keep it and wait for the card holder to contact them? Buff1968 Posted May 12, 2018 at 01:51 PM Author Share Posted May 12, 2018 at 01:51 PM Never mind. I found the answer on the FOID FAQ section at ISP. You have to wait 30 days plus mailing time then call the 782-7980 phone number before they will resend it. This is the phone # that no one can seem to get anyone to answer. Molly, do you know if an email to the ask_ FOID site will do the same thing or is a phone call the only way to get a card resent? Thanks
Molly B. Posted May 12, 2018 at 02:36 PM Share Posted May 12, 2018 at 02:36 PM Email should do the same thing but be sure to ask for confirmation the email was received to make sure.
splash Posted May 12, 2018 at 03:54 PM Share Posted May 12, 2018 at 03:54 PM Just for reference. My wife's FOID was renewed 4/4, issued 5/3, mail postmarked 5/4, delivered 5/7. We're in Lake County. I don't see the point that it wasn't printed yet since my wife' card has been issued way later than yours.
Buff1968 Posted May 22, 2018 at 10:41 PM Author Share Posted May 22, 2018 at 10:41 PM Update: Yesterday I tried to call the phone number listed on the FOID site but like most everyone else, I got a short message about heavy call volumes and then "Goodbye". So I sent an email to the ask_FOID site explaining that my FOID renewal had been issued on 4/24 but I had not received the new card. I asked if they would resend the card and send me a reply email to confirm they had received my request and to let me know if the new card was being resent, as Molly suggested. Much to my amazement, I received a response in about 3 hours stating my FOID card would be put in the mail today. I now have Informed Delivery from the USPS and will now be able to see when the card is out for delivery and can tell if my much less than stellar mail carrier gets it to the right address this time. Hopefully it will show up Thur or Fri. Will let you now when it arrives. Thank you Molly!! As always, job well done.

j28791 Posted May 25, 2018 at 11:15 PM Share Posted May 25, 2018 at 11:15 PM I was wondering why mine was taking so long, turns out I used a different mailing address (PO Box) than my home address to prevent it from getting lost. So it was in the PO box the whole time. You can login to ISP website and check what mailing address you've entered.
