How long to wait for undelivered FOID

Recommended Posts

I submitted my FOID renewal app in March and the ISP site shows my new card was issued on 4/24, two weeks ago today. I still have not received the new card. Our mail carrier is not the most reliable for getting mail in the correct mail box. How long should a person wait to see if the card shows up before requesting a replacement? What is the best process for requesting a replacement? Do you use the "Lost/Stolen" button on the ISP site or can I just send them an email explaining the situation and request a new card? I sent them an email last week stating I had not received the new card and to ask for them to check the status. Got a reply the next day stating my card had been mailed and should be getting it any day - then just didn't say what any day was.

Did you apply for USPS informed delivery? That way when the USPS is going to deliver it that day know will know before it hits your mailbox. My understanding from people reporting in the past that the ISP doesn't mail everyday but groups the mailings. If you report the FOID lost or stolen you will have to wait because they will void the FOID they sent. Edited by spec5

OK, thanks Molly. My concern is that if I report it as not received then I may end up temporarily without a valid FOID. Is that possible being that my card is valid I just don't have possession of it? What is the proper procedure for reporting it as not being received? Hopefully it won't come to that but I need to know what to do if it does. I just don't want to screw up the process of getting the card. I just signed up for the informed delivery service via USPS.

My new FOID # is different from the old one. The new one has the number 14 added to front of it to match my CCL #. So does that mean my old FOID is invalid now even though it does not expire until 7-1-2018? Am I without a valid FOID card right now?

Run the "old" number through the ISP website check and see what comes back.

Still curious as to what happens if I have to report the newly issued card as not being received. Does anyone know the answer to that?

Ask again after 30 days.

Never mind. I found the answer on the FOID FAQ section at ISP. You have to wait 30 days plus mailing time then call the 782-7980 phone number before they will resend it. This is the phone # that no one can seem to get anyone to answer.

Molly, do you know if an email to the ask_ FOID site will do the same thing or is a phone call the only way to get a card resent? Thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

Update: Yesterday I tried to call the phone number listed on the FOID site but like most everyone else, I got a short message about heavy call volumes and then "Goodbye". So I sent an email to the ask_FOID site explaining that my FOID renewal had been issued on 4/24 but I had not received the new card. I asked if they would resend the card and send me a reply email to confirm they had received my request and to let me know if the new card was being resent, as Molly suggested. Much to my amazement, I received a response in about 3 hours stating my FOID card would be put in the mail today. I now have Informed Delivery from the USPS and will now be able to see when the card is out for delivery and can tell if my much less than stellar mail carrier gets it to the right address this time. Hopefully it will show up Thur or Fri. Will let you now when it arrives.

Thank you Molly!! As always, job well done.
