There is a little hardware store in a small town (maybe 2500 pop) nearby that has an ammunition display case along the bottom of an isle next to the fishing poles. I didn't even know they sold fishing poles, let alone bullets until I went in last week and dropped my wife's shopping list. They had 15 boxes of the winchester 555 round 22lr in the white box. Can barely see inside the case as it is covered with pictures of prize winning catfish and small mouth bass. The store owner said they put their in order for it in September 2014 and 24 boxes came in two or three weeks ago. He will only allow one box per customer, and don't come back the next day after for another one either, becuase he'll remember, lol. $29.99.

Almost went there today since I was working on the far south side, but at 1pm traffic was already horrible so I just went home. Now you made me wish I went!

Yea, I go south on 394 to get home. So when I come out of the city I'll usually take a detour to Indiana to fill the truck. Since cabelas is right across from where I go, I usually stop 2-3x a week just to check for powder or .22 or a used S&W m&p22 compact.
I didn't but any .22 though. They actually had a Mosin nagant on the rack. Guess the guy just put it on the shelf! Can't wait to pick it up today :)

Anyway, it's nice to see a steady supply of .22LR

If I was to take a road trip to Hammond, what is current pricing on bulk stuff and Mini mags? I havent purchased .22 for 8-10 years. Back then a $20 bill yielded 100 rd WWB 9mm, a 550 .22 bulk pack, a soda and there were a few coins left over.

Cabelas Hammond. I saw at least 50,000 rds of .22 there today.

The 300 rd CCI mini mag swamp people boxes were $27 and I saw 120 boxes on the shelves and in a shopping cart. A bunch of misc CCI in 50/100 packs, some 100 packs of Remington and I found the .22 shorts I was trying to find. 500 rd limit posted and enforced while I was there.

Cabela's in Hoffman Estates had gobs of .22 today also.

They have jacked up the price a bit, but they seem to have found an equilibrium where at least it's always in stock now.

Great! Hopefully the people that seek out and buy .22 just to add to the 50,000 rounds in their closet will leave some for those that actually shoot it.

My son in law, coming down from Ft Wayne, passed thru Scheels in Springfield, and found 300 round boxes of CCI on the shelves. He asked the floor guy if there was any limit and he smiled and replied that no, there wasn't. The guy said he had just set an order of 5000 rounds on the counter for pickup. Anyway, there were other brands, mostly 100 round packs, but the CCI is in 100 and 300 count boxes. The 300s are $29.99.

Was in Marengo Guns today.

They had a bunch of .22.    100 Rd packs of Rem. Golden Bullet for 9.99 was the best deal there.   Several different brands of 50 packs.  No subsonic or shorts.

Heard from a friend Cabelas in Hoffman has 500 bulk packs of Rem for about $35

Gander in Rockford has more than 100 round packs today. I saw at least 6 800 round packs of Winchester M22, over 10 300 round packs of CCI, and several 525 round packs of Remington Golden Bullets. All together, probably over 10000 rounds of .22. I picked up a pack of the Remington for 7.2¢ each. The M22 was 7.5¢ each, and I dont remember the CCI.

Not so much a 'shortage alert'...but a good price.

I have today off..figured I'd stumble by wally world and check out any early morning ammo possibilities..

A pleasant surprise...scored two AE 5.56 XM193 120 round mini cans at walmart for...45 bux a 'can'...

Typically 60 bux.

ae556can.jpg

Not too shabby for this stuff.

I grabbed the last two at my local wally world, but I would suggest check out your local wally world.  Its not something folks typically seek out, so they may have a few left..

ETA: They also had Federal Champion 9mm 115gr ball 100 packs for 25 bux... (grabbed some of that too.. :) )

This is a better price than the WWB 9mm 115gr value packs that are at Cabela's for 29.99

Thought:

Perhaps we should start an AMMO SALE/BARGAIN thread?  Something to post to for good deals?

I'd like to 'think/hope/pray' the general ammo shortage is over(for now anyway) and we should be able to find ammo at less than typical prices..

For instance...tho I didnt post about it, a couple of weeks ago Cabela's had a sale on 300 round 'battle packs' of PMC 223 for 114.00. Granted, not the 'best' price, but a sale nonetheless..

It's not ammo specific but we do have a Daily Deals thread if that would work  http://illinoiscarry...showtopic=48550

Any 22LR sightings lately?

ETA: CCI 22 shotshells at Gander in Geneva, 100 packs of Remington Golden Bullets at Dick's in Geneva for $10. At least 35 boxes left as of this update.

I know .380 is still sometimes in short supply. I've always found it at Gats, but the Lake Zurich Walmart had more .380 than I've ever seen at a Walmart. They even had Federal red box .380 (which I prefer to WWB as the Federal is round nose), as well as 100 round boxes of WWB for $38 and change.

I was in DeKalb this past weekend and there was no .22LR at Walmart or Blain's Farm & Fleet.

Last year 22LR was going for sky-high prices at gun stores but people could get it at Walmart and Farm & Fleet if you went at the right time.  Now almost every gun store has .22LR but its completely absent from Walmart and Farm & Fleet.

A guy who used to work for me was visiting a buddy in Jacksonville, Il and stopped into the WM for a box of 9mm. Saw a 1000 round box of the M22s and grabbed it up. Said it was the only box. $50 and some change. Also mentioned that they still have semi auto rifles with no marks downs or postings that they will no long be selling them.

I was in Holland MI this weekend.   Dicks had several boxes of 500 rd Thunderbolts for $34.99.   500rd limit.    The employee told me that the local stores (Meijer, Walmart, etc) do not have limits so people buy entire cases at a time and put it on a local website in the area for ridiculous prices.

Funny that Dicks has several thousand rds for $0.07 each, but people are buying it online for higher prices???

Hopefully, .22 follows the patterns of the other ammo and it becomes regularly available and the prices fall accordingly.

The anti-gunners are not going to pass up a chance to push for gun control, I think the Oregon college shooting and the coming push for gun control is going to empty the shelves again.

I went to the Lake Zurich and Crystal Lake Walmarts last night. Picked up 1500 rounds of 9mm. Lake Zurich had very little 9mm but a ton of everything else including 380. Looked to be a lot of rifle ammo. Crystal Lake had a lot of 9mm and everything else.
