Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg today completed a three-week course of stereotactic ablative radiation therapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. The focused radiation treatment began on August 5 and was administered on an outpatient basis to treat a tumor on her pancreas. The abnormality was first detected after a routine blood test in early July, and a biopsy performed on July 31 at Sloan Kettering confirmed a localized malignant tumor.

As part of her treatment, a bile duct stent was placed. The Justice tolerated treatment well. She canceled her annual summer visit to Santa Fe, but has otherwise maintained an active schedule. The tumor was treated definitively and there is no evidence of disease elsewhere in the body. Justice Ginsburg will continue to have periodic blood tests and scans. No further treatment is needed at this time.

Prayers for her and her family.

Absolutely.

Theres much not said in the article or other reports. Is it a repeat of her prior pancreatic cancer (did not realize she had earlier), mets from her other prior colon/lung cancers, true pancreatic cancer or neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer (news kept misreporting what Aretha Franklin and Steve Jobs had). Everyone I have known with Pancreatic cancer did not get identified via bloodwork and lived 6 mo to a year or more unusual 1-2 yr if lucky.

Of course from a 2A perspective, this is news if she has to leave and Trump gets another appointee to the court.

She’s a hoot. Just saw a replay of an interview she did a while ago about her cancer and some goofball senator celebrating her condition. He’s dead, she’s still here. Great irony and maybe a cosmos lesson to lighten up.

Plucky lady. I hope we all have that outlook and drive when we’re 86. If we make it that long.

One can only hope that Trump gets to appoint another not wishing any bad on RBG but if it's her time may it be fast

Unlike the opposition, I won't wish bad things for her. I do wish she would retire and spend whatever time she has left with family and friends.

This would free up a spot on the court, which President Trump could fill with a conservative justice.

Make no mistake, this person is no friend of ours, but I won't stoop to their level and wish her ill. She just needs to retire.

I’m going out on a limb a bit, but could it be that the left/Dems have gotten her ear?

Maybe even reached out to her extended family!

It wouldn’t be the first time we found out later that someone was “taken care of” down the line.

I too of course will not wish here harm, nor will I jump for joy.

I will tho’ pray for her and her family to make decisions which are in her and their favor without interference......

God Bless

I think she is incompetent and should NOT be sitting on the bench! There is no way she has the physical stamina required and I serious doubt she has the mental either. I don't wish her ill but I do want competent folks on the bench who don't fall a sleep during arguments. I have also heard rumors that one of the other liberal judges might be thinking about leaving. Just rumors

not wishing her any ill, she will hold on until Jan. 1 then we are into an election year which will change every thing....

The GOP Senate still holds the wining deck, the 'new' Senate and 'new' President will be known in November, the 'new' Senate and President won't be sworn in until January, any pending nomination is still valid, if the Senate loses simply swear in a replacement post election before January with a smirk, if they win just wait until January and swear in with a smirk.

In good conscious, I can't wish well an enemy of my country, a person who would change my life big time given the opportunity.

Beyond that, where is the sanity in working at age 86 when you don't have to and are in poor health?

Spite

Keep in mind she was pivotal in furthering equality to women

Women should be 100% equal to men, but should not be “more” equal. Equality means everyone is treated the same and no one is given special privileges based on race, sex, religion, etc.

As I said when she had the lung tumors, at her age and in her failing health she is only going to continue to go downhill at this point and it might very well be a rapid decent or even a sudden drop. She has long promised she would step down when she could no longer do the job "full steam" it's become obvious that time is here.

I have worked with many people who have succumbed to pancreatic cancer. Every one dead within six months of diagnosis.

I notice a lot of the mainstream articles focusing heavily on overall 1 and 5 year survival rates of all pancreatic survivors, they are avoiding the elephant in the room that she is not in the best health, has already had cancer and and that she is of a well advanced age, those factors lower her survival expectations to the bottom.

I don't wish what she is going through on anyone but IMO it's highly optimistic at this point to believe she will survive for even the rest of Trump's current term, let alone another 5 years, and it will certainly open the debate on how long she will actually be able to properly serve and do her duties even if she is still surviving.

I have worked with many people who have succumbed to pancreatic cancer. Every one dead within six months of diagnosis.

A big part of that, though, is because pancreatic cancer is typically not found until Stage 3 or 4. The reason pancreatic cancer is so deadly is it doesn't typically cause noticable symptoms until the later stages. At those stages and due to its location, you're typically looking at prolonging with chemo or palliative care. I lost my father to pancreatic cancer 5 years ago, he went into the hospital with stomach pain and a bowel blockage, and when they went in they found the cancer. Only made it 40 days from that point, he had a particularly aggressive form that spread so fast it made chemo unfeasible so most of his time was spent in hospice. Sorry for the back story, just wanted to clarify I wasn't just flexing my Google-fu.

All that to say, if they caught it early (which it sounds like they did via bloodwork) she actually probably stands a decent chance of lasting longer than most pancreatic cancer patients. Shes had cancer several times, so they likely caught it by chance due to follow up blood work from previous cancers. Even early stage pancreatic cancer doesn't have fantastic prognosis compared to others, but its alot better than the more typical late stage discoveries of it.

I’m gonna go on a left leaning forum and see how many well wishes there are for sick or dying figures on the conservative side.

As I recall, there were many well wishes for John McCain... outside of Illinois Carry.

Because he opposed Trump and his agenda. No other reason. Want to talk Scalia?

When the next SCJ steps down or is carried out, all current and past news will come to a full and immediate stop.

Yes, the Kavanaugh stuff was an embarrassment and unprecedented, though not embarrassing to democrats.

Every raving lunatic progressive and feminazi CNN can book will be pounding on the counter and pulling the fire alarm.

I expect antifa to even cower a bit.

It is certain that the White House has kept all their top shelf candidates in the loop, and everyone has been screening backgrounds and double dog checking for skeletons, and rumors of skeletons.

Amy Barrett has probably contacted every guy or gal she ever kissed, clerk who worked for her, bar tender who served her, email she sent and utility bill she paid.
