InterestedBystander Posted June 30, 2017 at 11:42 PM Share Posted June 30, 2017 at 11:42 PM Best previous discussion I could find on CMP 1911s was archived. full story at link Language added to Defense spending bill to speed up 1911 transfers to CMP http://www.guns.com/2017/06/30/language-added-to-ndaa-to-speed-up-1911-transfers-to-cmp/ An Alabama Congressman has managed to pass an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act out of committee aimed at moving surplus Army pistols to the public. In a statement from his office, U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, a Republican that represents the Anniston area in Congress, announced his amendment to the NDAA has moved out of the House Armed Services Committee and is headed to the floor. The measure is designed to speed up the now two-year saga of transferring a stockpile of surplus M1911 .45ACP handguns from Anniston Army Depot to the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Similar language has been in the last two NDAAs, but the previous Obama Administration would not allow the Army to deliver the pistols to the CMP for political reasons, Rogers said in the statement. In 2015, President Obama signed the FY16 spending bill into law, which authorized the Army to transfer no more than 10,000 of their estimated 100,000 surplus 1911s per year to the CMP during a one-year pilot program. As part of the starter program, the Pentagon would have to report back to Congress both the exact number of guns sold as well as any information on any crimes committed using firearms transferred. Also, the CMP would have to obtain a federal firearm license to conduct any and all handgun sales and adhere to all local, state, and federal laws in respect to those sales. Fast forward to today and, while Depot officials earlier this year showed Guns.com crated 1911s ready to transfer, and CMP is eager to receive them to begin the lengthy process to inspect, grade, and sell these pistols to the public, the guns are still in a holding pattern. Sweeper13 Posted July 1, 2017 at 01:48 AM Share Posted July 1, 2017 at 01:48 AM It would be great if they keep the prices reasonable. As mentioned in other topics, they are going to ask a top dollar for the crappiest 1911. Hope that changes.
InterestedBystander Posted July 18, 2017 at 12:06 AM Author Share Posted July 18, 2017 at 12:06 AM full story at link http://www.guns.com/2017/07/17/house-passes-spending-bill-that-includes-selling-milsurp-1911s-through-cmp/ House passes spending bill that includes selling milsurp 1911s through CMP7/17/17 | by Chris Eger The House version of the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act was approved and included a plan to transfer the U.S. Army’s remaining stock of .45 ACP M1911A1 pistols to the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Added as an amendment by U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Alabama, while the NDAA was in debate in the House Armed Service Committee, it would speed up the transfer of potentially the largest remaining stock of military surplus World War II-era handguns in government hands to the public. The legislation passed 344-81 and was sent to the Senate for consideration.
Raw Power Posted August 1, 2017 at 09:38 PM Share Posted August 1, 2017 at 09:38 PM Unless they're offered at reasonable prices, I doubt I'd have much interest. There are far better .45s out there readily available (ducks for cover).
