vito Posted December 5, 2018 at 04:04 PM Share Posted December 5, 2018 at 04:04 PM This may sound silly to some of you, but I must admit that until very recently I was not even aware that I had to attend a certified class as part of the renewal process for my license to carry a concealed firearm. I was among the very first in the State to receive my license, and in truth, while I knew it expired in 5 years I did not pay attention to what that renewal required. I am signed up for a certified class this week so that I can complete the online renewal process and since my license doesn't expire for another four months I believe that I should not have any further problems with the process. But it occurred to me that I might not be the only person that has not really been paying attention to what was required for renewal. Hopefully this post will be laughed at by many, but there might be a few that say "wow, I didn't know I had to do that" and can get with the program in time to avoid problems. cola490 Posted December 5, 2018 at 04:10 PM Share Posted December 5, 2018 at 04:10 PM I am in no position to judge, but with the amount of posts you have, you obviously spend time on this forum. How did you not run across talk about the renewal process?

RandyP Posted December 5, 2018 at 04:28 PM Share Posted December 5, 2018 at 04:28 PM CCW renewal 'should' be a simple Utah-like process involving a current photo and a check. Or better yet an Indiana "lifetime" license process. But this is the Land of Lincoln (spinning in his grave.)- home of graft, corruption, hatred of all things 2nd Amendment related and a testament to one-party (Democrat) control of all legislaton. The entire CCW license system is engineered to discourage, and in many cases financially prevent, mere common folks from daring to use that goofy Constituional Rights thing to their benefit. As I did for the first 8hr class 4-1/2 years ago, I will again soon seek out whatever gun emporium is offering the cheapest class, try to stay awake, throw some lead downrange and pay the ransom for my RIghts to this sorry State. AlphaKoncepts aka CGS Posted December 5, 2018 at 05:08 PM Share Posted December 5, 2018 at 05:08 PM I've been sending out emails to students and people seem shocked at the renewal process even though we cover it in class. I put up a video on social media in 2016 and had occasionally spammed it and people still seem to be oblivious.
vito Posted December 5, 2018 at 05:31 PM Author Share Posted December 5, 2018 at 05:31 PM I'm not sure how I remained unaware of the training requirement for the last five years (almost) but I guess it was just not in the forefront of my mind. Now I need to go to the ISP website and fill our the renewal. Can anyone save me some time and let me know what the photo requirements are? Is there a specific size required for the head and shoulders photo or can I just print out a 4x6 selfie?
AlphaKoncepts aka CGS Posted December 5, 2018 at 05:38 PM Share Posted December 5, 2018 at 05:38 PM any random selfie on your phone will work so far as there is a light colored background, head and shoulders, no hats or dark glasses. Taken within 30 days of application. Why would you print anything, you upload your photo on the website, www.ispfsb.com

Wild Bill Posted December 10, 2018 at 10:45 PM Share Posted December 10, 2018 at 10:45 PM Aside from the cost of the class - what's the state charging for the renewal? The ISP FAQ site doesn't list the renewal price. Thanks Never mind - found it here $

You'd be surprised how many people get their CCL and don't use it. Now renewal time is coming and just be glad they have to take a class and qualify. Some people get it just to say they have it. Yes I know - ridiculous. Just imagine the feeling of someone saying they're coming in to renew and need to rent a firearm. Scary.

There exist people who support the right to carry but are not willing/able to carry daily. Getting a license is as much about being able to carry should something change in their life as it is about sending a message to Springfield about the number of people who believe in having carry. Why make fun of a brother or sister?
RandyP Posted December 28, 2018 at 09:46 PM Share Posted December 28, 2018 at 09:46 PM If I had to use mass transit daily I would not be able to use a CCW every day - but I'd still get one. Getting a FOID does not mandate buying a firearm, it just allows you to do so if or when you wish. I fully support those willing and able who jump through the massive hoops and roadblocks this State puts in the way of law abiding folks excercising their Rights. Whether or not they then choose to accept the huge responsibility involved in concealed carry at their discretion is also their choice. I only gotta make ME happy. Why make fun of a brother or sister? Not making fun at all. I just see it a lot at my work and wonder sometimes why people get their CCL and are terrified of guns. I totally understand exercising their right and I am all for it! Unfortunately some folks only get it because their significant other urged them to. Trust me I've seen it. I think I may not have worded that last post the way it sounded in my head.

BigJim Posted December 29, 2018 at 09:05 PM Share Posted December 29, 2018 at 09:05 PM When I first got my FCCL I was only able to carry on weekends. I rode Metra to CUS then rode the CTA to the north loop where I worked in a prohibited building with metal detectors. Eventually I started working from home and was able to carry at work. My wife originally got her FCCL so she could hold my gun in the case I couldn't (my going into a GFZ or I was injured) . After a while she got used to carrying my 9mm and started carrying her 380. The thing is I never pushed her to do it, she grew in to it on her own. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
jrlivin2 Posted December 30, 2018 at 01:06 AM Share Posted December 30, 2018 at 01:06 AM Unfortunately we are not in Utah. .......or Florida. I renewed my non-resident FL CCL today. It involved a new picture, fingerprints, and $87. Done. My IL CCL expires on 2/28 and of course will require the class ($50 in my area), $150 renewal fee, photo, time to take class, etc.... Thanks to the OP though. Anything that may help someone remember to renew is helpful.

We are seeing a higher number of females coming into the range and very interested in learning about firearms. I personally have sold about 25 S&W 380 Shields to women in the last few months. I carry one myself for everyday carry and love it. Yes I get made fun of (in a fun way not serious) because some people think you should carry something with a little more stopping power....but a hp 380 can do some damage.
