max503 Posted June 25, 2020 at 01:40 PM Share Posted June 25, 2020 at 01:40 PM I did a search but it didn't come up with a specific explanation. What's the deal with fingerprints? I did my renewal yesterday but did not submit fingerprints. I didn't submit them with my original, either. Only thing I can tell is you'll get processed quicker if you send fingerprints. Am I missing something here? It doesn't seem like they are required, so why would anyone submit fingerprints with their CCW application or renewal? Craigcelia Posted June 25, 2020 at 01:42 PM Share Posted June 25, 2020 at 01:42 PM They are not required. Yes, in theory, if you submit prints you will get your license 30 days faster than someone who does not. 90 days versus 120 but the question remains is it worth the extra cost and with all the backups, will you really get the license in 90 days. My opinion is it is not worth it and if this is for a renewal only, you don't need to submit fingerprints, as your license is still valid after you have applied for it. Not to mention the state police extension because of COVID-19.
Nod Posted June 25, 2020 at 01:45 PM Share Posted June 25, 2020 at 01:45 PM I suspect it's because they can run the prints through a large data base and if nothing comes back it clears you of a possible criminal record. Just a guess. Don't know why so many are worried about having their prints on record. If you were ever in the military you were printed. And one town I bought a gun in, you had to submit prints to the local police to pick up your gun. Like a laser, it can work both ways, it can prove that the prints at a crime scene aren't yours. ragsbo Posted June 25, 2020 at 03:27 PM Share Posted June 25, 2020 at 03:27 PM What I don't like about the prints is having to use that special kind. When I first applied, I would had to drive nearly 3 hours one way to get them done! If they would except the regular ones like you can get at the local sheriffs office, that would be different. I have prints in who knows how many systems, first military then a government clearance for 29 years, renewed and background redone very 5ish years

I didn't do prints the first time or for renewal because I wasn't going to pay $60.00 + over and above all the other cost involved.
Odinson Posted June 25, 2020 at 04:18 PM Share Posted June 25, 2020 at 04:18 PM Mine were included in with my original CCL training. I'd already been fingerprinted (long story, but it was for a speeding ticket when I was 18) so I figured they are in the state database already. Bubbacs Posted June 25, 2020 at 04:31 PM Share Posted June 25, 2020 at 04:31 PM For my original app I used the get prints optionAt that time we were getting with print cards back in anywhere from 40 to 60 daysA few even posted about getting a 37 days card, (mine was 43 days) If not using the print option it was taking anywhere between near 90 days to the max listed 120 days.It all depends on how fast people wanted the card and each situation they had individually Now, today, this is all out the window and the timelines are all screwed up.....bad screwed up The costs for lives and prints I found were $43.00 so I got themGoogle search brings up a nice list of facilities along with pricingI got lucky and used on within 15 minutes of my house Good Luck to everyone, oh and, any finger prints used before from anywhere the ISP (aka state of Illinois) will not consider

Why can't they use those? Because this is Illinois and that would make too much sense. The state is run by a bunch of anti-gun zealots who are not going to make the process easy or logical.
