Organizers lament low turnout... Chicago Tribune

2 million plus FOID holders in Illinois and we can’t muster a token response to Father Fascist highway shutdown. I have shooting friends that will not contact their legislators because of fear of getting on a list. I remind them they are already on a list, FOID holders.

Sheep can’t be reasoned with or saved from slaughter.

From the article: The group gathered in a corner of Millennium Park, not the great lawn, because organizers did not secure a permit and park security forced them to leave.

And they all left peacefully and didn’t shut down a major highway. We see who the city wants to cater to.

If we had any smarts, we would have shown up at 79th street. After the ISP shut down the Ryan to help the protesters, just walk down in FRONT of the protesters with our Flags and Pro 2A message. If WE were arrested and or forced to leave, I would think that would be grounds for a nice lawsuit - since EVERYONE WAS THERE ILLEGALLY - why should the Pro 2A people be arrested or removed and the Anti-2A people allowed to continue the disturbance. EDITED TO ADD - I would think, since it was not a permitted gathering, you could carry concealed, too.

Organization is not just a group you donate money too. Its actually a physical action that needs to happen as well....

If "organizers" are going to lament anything it should be how they failed to organize anything at all. Not even getting a permit for this event ? Just show up at this random place we are gonna get kicked out of. Cmon now.

The pro gun crowd is just horrible at organizing these type of events most of the time. Nation wide, not just in IL. Or maybe we pro gun people are all just too real to pretend that anyone in power cares about "marches" and "rallies" unless they are the ones setting them up to further a political agenda. You think Illinois elected officials are trembling in their boots at what the pro gun crowd backlash in IL is gonna be ? Maybe you should check how they all voted on the recent anti gun bills that went through our legislature.

To quote an old movie, They ain't afraid of no ghosts.

What we have to do is incorporate gun rights with other rights. The anti-gun movement is made up of different interest groups, as evidenced by the signs they carry.

They typically are for:

More jobs

Less violence

Anti-gun

Anti-Trump

Pro gay

Pro women's rights

Pro minority rights

Pro immigrant

Pro union

Pro teachers

Pro socialism

Pro anything anti-conservative, etc.

Of course they can gather a huge crowd, they're actually different groups who gather for every leftist cause under the sun.

Our obligations are home maintenance after a busy week of work, a nice bbq with family & friends, some vehicle maintenance, that sort of thing. That Dan Ryan group does not understand the word obligations. That one word should explain the difference in the size of the turnout for these two events.

Every attempt I make at extending our reach to immigrants (legal variety), minority, or LGBT communities ends up getting derailed by the anti-immigrant, anti-minority, anti-gay commentary commonly found in the generally conservative white male dominated pro-second community. We need to clean up our act before they'll feel welcome enough to stand beside us and fight, March, and vote with us. It doesn't mean one has to like them or agree with their lifestyle, but so long as our community keeps verbally slamming the door shut on accepting them as allies we can expect them to continue to remain distant and withdrawn. This isn't written as a chide or tongue lashing, it's an observation of us being our own worst enemy.

Iâm gonna get on a roll.

The gun community has more than its fair share of socially awkward dipsheets.

These range from guys who will never get laid and find some sense of community with gun nuts to the straight up idiot racists, homophobes, and other losers in the great gene pool lottery.

That group seems to find its way onto TV, YouTube and other public media places. When they do, they scare the sheet out of the normal, middle of the road folks we need to VOTE with us. They donât need to be shooters, hunters or even gun owners. They donât want to socially, economically, or politically associate with scary losers.

Trumps election has unleashed two destructive and lousy forces - the whacked out liberal Antifa gang and their whacked out crass and bigoted counterparts. It would be funny if it wasnât so sad.

If we want gun rights to have a practical and winning place in this country, we need to tone down the BS, stop scaring soccer moms, actively recruit normal folks to speak on our behalf, and âtissue rejectâ the racist/bigoted arseholes who canât see or act beyond their pathetic and tiny world view.

Happy Sunday.

... we need to ... actively recruit normal folks to speak on our behalf ...

Like maybe this guy:

Kevin Yan, an 18-year-old University of Chicago student, said he is "an outlier" at his school because he is passionate about the Second Amendment. He said he has never owned a gun and has never shot a gun, but he believes gun ownership is "a critical American tradition" and "really important for self-defense."

The number of people at IGOLD in years past makes Father Flakey's demonstration look very small in comparison. I don't know what percentage of attenders at IGOLD are from the Chicago area but there should have been some to make a counter protest. Since the ISP made no arrests I'm sure the anti-gunners will try this again, we should get a group organized to counter protest when it happens again.

I know Im personally embarrassed, when they throw women, minorities, and LBGTQ out of pro-Trump rallies.

I'm gonna have to call you out and ask for some examples of this ever happening.

The people that ATTENDED were the OPTICS we drool for, almost NO old white guys (but the group did lean heavily male)- in fact most of the group was indistinguishable from the rest of the crowd present at the park.

I also encountered THREE young women who agreed with the signs they read and stopped by, as opposed to knowing of the event and planning to attend. This was AFTER the (my) signs came out. They agreed with what was on the signs, and CARRIED them some as they milled around talking to people.

(why did they approach me? I had the pile of signs.... they asked questions, liked the answers etc..)

THIS IS EXACTLY THE "WHY" OF THIS TYPE OF EVENT.

Paid shill shannon watts be (6 letter word starting with D, meaning consigned to the eternal punishment place).

From another thread:

Chicago is enemy territory. The low turnout is due to that. We are not going to change minds there. Ill bring up the Marengo shooting range town hall again, as 200 people showed up to that. Focus on areas where you have a chance on making an impact (suburbs), not in enemy territory. No one that is indifferent and wanted to learn attended that event, I can guarantee it. It was a bust because Chicago is gone, plain and simple.

Going forward, these groups need to focus on areas that are borderline left/right. Attempt to gain support from people in the middle. Fighting for gun rights in Chicago and expecting support is like a straight guy going to a gay bar to find a woman. It happens, but its rare

Nope, turnout was due to the inexperience of the organizers in getting the word out in their "targeted" area, compounded by the expense of parking nearby for those coming from longer distances.
- thus the location of Millennium Park shoulders some of the blame.
It's not like they had several deep pocket and experienced organizations all warmed up and tense in the starter's block, ready to sprint when the appropriate tragedy occurred.
In fact had ISRA, NRA etc done something like that, criticisms would be instant and furious.

Also the group was shunted OFF the planned meeting area ahead of the announced time, so others arriving slightly later had absolutely NO clue of where or even IF something was going on.
I found them only by luck, happenstance and deduction.
The security personnel were absolutely useless in my experience today.
The maintenance personnel roping off the entire grassy area had NO idea WHY they got an abrupt order to rope off the grass.
There was a small rental stage that I thought was theirs, but short observation showed it was being taken DOWN...

YEAH - I was THERE. Later than I wanted, but definitely before the 11 am start time.

There were people from far away, there were several from IGOT.

I put OUR crowd during Rhonda's speech closer to 50, not 35. I had brought 120 signs just in case.

Colin FitzSimmons, 13, of Algonquin, Illinois, spoke at the Chicago rally, sounding alarms that liberal gun-control efforts really want to "to disarm the populace." People held signs reading "we're not going away" and "take back gun rights."

That proves I was there... (lol)

I agree we need to do a lot more counter protest work. we also need to do more public relations work and I'd love to see an IGOLD somewhere every week but we should stay away from stunts like this clown parade so the thousands of angry drivers that were late and inconvenienced have only one side to blame.

I'm gonna have to call you out and ask for some examples of this ever happening.

Google is your friend.

October 29, 2016

...

Trump glanced at the person his supporters were singling out: A black man wearing a suit jacket and sunglasses.

...

"We have a protester," Trump declared. The crowd booed.

...

Somewhere in the crowd, Trump's security detail escorted a man out of the rally as the audience cheered.

...

The person in question turned out to be C.J. Cary, a North Carolina resident, who claims to be a longtime Trump supporter.

...

Cary says he is a Marine veteran and Trump campaign volunteer, and he claims to have been corresponding with Trump since 1992. That year he wrote Donald and Ivana Trump "an impassioned letter" upon hearing they were separating. To his surprise, he says, Donald Trump wrote back, and he has been an ardent supporter of his ever since.

...

In August, Jake Anantha, a half-Indian student at Central Piedmont Community College, attended a Trump rally in Charlotte.

...

Security officials told Anantha that he was a "known protester," and despite evidence to the contrary, insisted that he must leave.

2016-03-11

...

East Carolina University student Adedayo Adeniyi attended a political rally held by the Republican presidential hopeful on Wednesday night. The 20-year-old says that he went not to protest or demonstrate but because he was curious to see for himself what a Trump rally would be like.

Video footage captured by Mr Adeniyi appears to show police and Trump supporters approach him and demand that he leave.

There were lots of other hits.

^^

Are you not aware that people are planted there by far left organizations just for this purpose (to get thrown out and for it to be a story)?

Language warning

https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=5IuJGHuIkzY

And an article on it (the video)

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/oct/18/undercover-video-shows-democrats-saying-they-hire-/

Two top Democratic strategists have exited the presidential campaign after explosive undercover videos showed them discussing voter fraud and their roles in planting paid agitators at campaign events for Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Robert Creamer, founder of Democracy Advocates and the husband of Rep. Janice D. Schakowsky, Illinois Democrat, stepped down from the campaign Tuesday, a day after Scott Foval was fired from his post as national field director of Americans United for Change.

Looking at your dates, this matches up perfectly.

We need more lead time with planning, organization & promotion. We fail to push hard in that respect, quite soft compared to what is put out by others. Need the more in your face, but in a friendly way thing. If the folks we contact disagree great, thank you for listening. Hey, you're a good person, here, have one of my snack size Snickers. Use social skills to make them feel part of the social you. Go fishing for the middle ground, BS, share some snacks with a chat. While near all of us are capable of hot & heavy loud hammering, lure them in with some soft. The crossovers will be receptive to that, be aware of personal body language, lean back, share some snacks & yak. The hammer is not the only tool in our bag.
