It's been 5 years have we gained any additional carry zones?

Recommended Posts

I think you meant "will we ever be able to LEGALLY carry in parks, beaches,.....". I believe the answer to your question is "not yet". But knowing that GFZ's are the places that are most likely to lead to problems, you still have a choice. And with the present Governor, I cannot imagine any pro-carry legislation being signed into law. Personally, I think the best solution is to leave Illinois, but that's another subject entirely.

Unless there is a proverbial political Earthquake in IL or we receive relief from the courts we got what we got for the foreseeable future.

Just like how IL Politicians promise to "fix" bills later; it never was gonna happen. Not that we don't have Pro-2A legislators pushing for it but the votes will never be there.

To the OP, thanks for the comic post - it made my day.

I mean, this IS illinois afterall.. You know,... the State that was the very last out of 50 to be dragged by the courts, kicking and screaming all the way, to admit that there even WAS a 2nd Amendment to the Bill of Rights.

Surely you are not surprised by the blinding force of legislative inertia to improve OUR lot in life here?

It's Illinois, we won't get any pro-gun rights until a court forces the legislators hands, but expect much more anti-gun legislation to make it into law in next year or two.

This is what irked me so much when the concealed carry law was forced upon the legislators, I knew full well that all the pro-gunners talk and hot air about expanding and making it better in the coming years was just empty promises to placate, we should have aimed for the moon and hoped for the stars at that point, instead we aimed for the other side of the street and accepted getting to the middle median with empty promises that we would get to the other side someday.

I think we will be very lucky to keep what we have instead of gaining more. With the bills that making their way through now, the antis are pushing a full court press to take everything they can away. As long as madigan and henchmen have their strangle hold over the state, nothing will change. We blew our chances of getting a good carry bill when the courts forced them to do it

Maybe all the members of this forum that already live in Chicago should move to Madigan's district and vote against him in the next election.

But seriously, I doubt that the current "blue" Illinois will ever seriously consider any pro-gun legislation within my lifetime. Our best hope might be in either a massive move toward gun rights by the Supreme Court, striking down all or most of the restrictions in the Illinois law as un-Constitutional, or maybe even better, the Supreme Court declaring that public employee unions are inherently un-Constitutional in their interference between the People and the government that is supposed to represent their interests. The loss of public employee unions would destroy the power base of Madigan and much of the Democrat structure within the state as well as allow for real pension and other reforms that would give Illinois a chance to survive into the future. If the Supreme Court did both of these things, then maybe this would again be "the land of Lincoln" and not the cesspool of the Left as it has become.

Actually, since the 2013 enactment of the Firearm Concealed Carry Act, we gained a FEDERAL carry zone. 54 U.S.C. 104906 protects the right of individuals to bear arms in national parks and wildlife refuges:

An unfortunate truth.
There was a lot of talk 5 years ago about how the good fight was going to net results. There has been no significant gain that could be measured since then.
I said it then. Until another citizen gets beaten to within an inch of death on a train or bus(Or in a currently prohibited area) and successfully sues the state we will never see carry in those places, ever. Being killed isn't good enough, ironically, because dead people can't go to court.
Only a court order got us where we are, and not lobbying, nor carrying those signs at igold. That was all for nothing.

Bills have been submitted but they arent allowed to progress. Id expect more of a fight on mass transit but they wont even consider something reasonable like rest areas on the interstate.

Maybe we can start a covert public relations plan to win public support. We could agree on the wording of a sign that members here could print out and post in prohibited areas. The sign could read something like this:

THIS IS GUN FREE ZONE. Law abiding citizens are prohibited from carrying a gun here, but criminals, WHO ALREADY HAVE NO WORRY ABOUT BREAKING THE LAW, will of course carry a gun here to use when he robs, rapes or kills you or a member of your family. Calling the police will do nothing until AFTER you are robbed, shot, raped or killed. Try to enjoy your time here while awaiting your time to be robbed, raped or murdered.

OR DEMAND THAT LAW ABIDING, LICENSED CONCEALED FIREARM CARRYING CITIZENS BE LEGALLY ALLOWED TO BE HERE WHILE ARMED FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL OF US.

Worth a try? You Chicago guys could post this on every CTA station, in every park and similar setting.

Great idea Vito! I'd like to see this sign posted on all buses, trains, parks, beaches, and forest preserves in Chicago!

A couple points come to mind.

I strongly suspect that darn few folks will take the time to look up from their smartphones long enough to read the rather 'wordy' sign in the first place, let alone comprehend it enough to be motivated to do anything.

I don't really subscribe to the notion of "FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL OF US." I chose to jump through the myriad of hoops and pay the substantial fees to carry for MY safety (and my loved ones) and feel ZERO personal obligation or responsibility to come forward to protect anyone else. IMHO strangers are responsible for their own safety.

The No Guns signage is a direct reflection of the rabid anti-gun political climate wherever the signs are found. This is Illinois and to expect more is a bit unrealistically optimistic, again only IMHO. The signs reflect the generally accepted rampant ignorance of the common citizen who is made to 'feel good' by their presence.

Its a Word document so members here can vary the wording as desired. I used the phrase "for the safety of all of us" as a means of trying to get some support from those that might never consider carrying a firearm themselves but might recognize that they are safer when in an environment where others are carrying, rather than having the Leftist knee jerk reaction of thinking they are MORE at risk when somewhere where people might be armed. But in terms of being too wordy, I think you are right. I plan on printing out a bunch of these posters and keeping them in my car along with a roll of tape so that I can put them up where needed, and I think I will try to modify the document to be more succinct.

Unless t here is a sign that says "Post No Bills" I think it could not be considered even a minor crime. And the real intent of this is to post it on PUBLIC buildings and structures, things like CTA stations, city parks, and other areas where by Illinois statute you cannot carry a concealed firearm. I wouldn't bother at schools or airports or anywhere that Federal law prohibits carry.

The purpose is to create a mindset open to the idea that good guys with guns are a good thing. Using "he" instead of "they" conveys the right negative image in the reader's mind. Maybe it could be made more concise, but making it too general will not get an emotional response.

Right now our efforts at expanding our gun rights in Illinois is a laughable failure. Only by getting some of the same people that voted for Pritzker, support Madigan, and who are generally receptive to gun control proposals over to our side on at least the subject of where licensed carriers can legally be, might we have a chance to move the agenda forward.

... Using "he" instead of "they" conveys the right negative image in the reader's mind. ...

There's always "ze" ....

But since you use "criminals" (plural), the pronoun would be "they" (plural).

I agree it needs to be simpler. Maybe a dour emoticon with a gun shooting a happy emoticon with a knife stabbing a sad emoticon screaming for help would work. Put a thick green circle around it.

Then again, maybe I'm reminded of why Eddie Eagle is such a useless mascot.
