mic6010 Posted March 23, 2017 at 07:57 PM Share Posted March 23, 2017 at 07:57 PM LoL, I actually had to look up what a "Diogenes" was. That's pretty funny. I don't really want to support the city of Chicago, but at the same time you have to be logical about it too. The vast majority of the gun violence you hear about in Chicago is located only in certain areas and among certain demographics of people. It doesn't really take a rocket scientist to figure that out. You could easily host an event in the city of Chicago that is just as safe as any other major city in America. How enlightened could someone be if that can't figure that out ?
ScottFM Posted March 23, 2017 at 08:42 PM Share Posted March 23, 2017 at 08:42 PM How enlightened could someone be if that can't figure that out ?Not very. Sadly I know a lot of people that have been led to believe that Chicago is a hellhole of gun violence everywhere you go. With elected leaders and national news channels supporting that view it should not come as a surprise that the un-enlightened are out there repeating/thinking exactly that. soundguy Posted March 23, 2017 at 09:58 PM Share Posted March 23, 2017 at 09:58 PM LoL, I actually had to look up what a "Diogenes" was. That's pretty funny. I don't really want to support the city of Chicago, but at the same time you have to be logical about it too. The vast majority of the gun violence you hear about in Chicago is located only in certain areas and among certain demographics of people... There are a number of small Illinois cities with far higher murder and violence rates than Chicago. Springfield and Rockford come to mind. We just have so many more people that it's hard to beat our numbers. Big southern cities in gun friendly red states seem to fare worse than Chicago, too... And of course Baltimore, Philly, Detroit and 'Da Swamp. I sat in front of a home in K Town yesterday afternoon for about an hour. Not armed and didn't ever think I should have been. I nodded and said "good morning - how ya doing" to several young men as they passed by while I smoked a cig. They responded politely and called me sir. I think they think we look like we might be cops.
Buzzard Posted March 23, 2017 at 10:52 PM Share Posted March 23, 2017 at 10:52 PM Here is the part that simply boggles my mind: "According to the website, Chicago PD’s list of gun offenders is predicated upon the gun offenders telling Chicago PD where they are! Let’s be very clear about this, felons, who are also convicted of criminal gun charges, are required to voluntarily register with the City of Chicago? What that means is the City of Chicago has no idea who they are and are relying on convicted felons that use guns to voluntarily identify themselves to the City of Chicago so everyone can look them up and see where they live." There is simply nothing more that needs be said.
Mr. Fife Posted March 24, 2017 at 02:40 AM Share Posted March 24, 2017 at 02:40 AM There will always be people trying to defend Chicago by shouting, "but, but... murder rate!" That's nice if somebody was actually doing a study about a major metropolis against some small city. But that's just smoke when the real story is how does one major metropolis compare to the other major metropoli. You can't really compare number of murders to murder rate, or major cities to lesser populated cities. Apples and oranges. If you combine other major cities like NYC and L.A. together and compare them against Chicago, then Chicago has both... more murders and a higher murder rate. No, number of murders is the yardstick, not murder rate. You can't ignore the dead bodies or try to sweep them under the rug in favor of "murder rate", the dead bodies are still there. If a small town of 10 people had one person snap and kill 5 people then the town would have lost half of its population and have the highest murder rate in the country. But that tiny little town has nothing to do with the fact that Chicago leads the nation with the most dead bodies. There's no other city that can hold that many candles to Chicago. C0untZer0 Posted March 24, 2017 at 10:27 AM Share Posted March 24, 2017 at 10:27 AM Lombardo nails it: These are Chicago’s City Fathers, the ruling elite that control every aspect of John Q’s life from parking a car after a snowfall to the shopping bags he gets at the grocery store. The only thing they don’t control is the violent crime destroying the city from within. They point fingers at everyone and everything in view except themselves and certainly not at their constituents because that would cost them votes. Mmmm.....OK. But this ^ sounds more like it's spoken in defense of the view from inside the toilet bowl looking out.
