cola490 Posted April 24, 2017 at 11:47 PM Share Posted April 24, 2017 at 11:47 PM Has anyone heard about the gun store and range being proposed in Mundelein? The location is the old Lazy Boy store on RT 45 near RT 83. It was brought up at the Planning and Zoning Commission on April 19.
InterestedBystander Posted April 24, 2017 at 11:58 PM Share Posted April 24, 2017 at 11:58 PM Mir Tactical. Info in the planning commission agenda packet for that day http://mundeleinvillageil.iqm2.com/citizens/FileOpen.aspx?Type=1&ID=1978&Inline=True http://mundeleinvillageil.iqm2.com/citizens/default.aspx Mir Tactical currently houses its offices and primary store at 1348 Busch Parkway, Buffalo Grove, Illinois. They also operate a warehouse in Mundelein. MIR Tactical is looking to consolidate their corporate offices and sales locations into a single facility. This location would allow them to expand operations to include tactical training and a shooting range. ...The Petitioner, Mr. Paterakis, seeks a use variance to allow for a shooting range in the C-2 Zoning District. Shooting ranges are not permitted in the C-2 Zoning District. The proposed shooting range is housed within a self-contained trailer unit. Featuring two lanes for shooting, the range would be assembled off site and shipped to this location. The Petitioner proposes to place the range along the rear of the building. Additional specifications of the mobile shooting range can be found in the Petitioners application. The shooting range, while mobile, would only be used in the proposed location. mrmagloo Posted April 25, 2017 at 01:57 PM Share Posted April 25, 2017 at 01:57 PM 2 lane Mobile range? That's not going to help much in the area beyond perhaps breaking down political barriers that I don't really sense exists. Imho, there is a ton of vacant or under utilized commercial property in Mundelein to allow a full 10 to 20 lane indoor range and store without having to resort to building in a flood plain. Or, are these guys just trying to pull this off on a shoestring budget? Mundelein is a perfect spot when plotting proximity to other ranges, but a 2 lane mobile range will be impractical to even consider patronizing. I don't get it? Imho, Mundelein should tell them to jump in with both feet and build a real facility in a better site that will support such an enterprise. Wait a second - The company specializes in Airsoft and Paintball stuff? www.mirtactical.com

mrmagloo Posted April 25, 2017 at 03:51 PM Share Posted April 25, 2017 at 03:51 PM The OP said Gun Store/Range, and from what it seemed, that was the focus of this topic. Turns out that's not the case.
Bitter Clinger Posted April 26, 2017 at 04:40 PM Share Posted April 26, 2017 at 04:40 PM An actual bona-fide shooting range in Mundelein would be fantastic since we have no ranges in that area. I currently have to drive an hour or more to get to any. That being said, a two lane range is kind of pointless.

I shoot up @ McMiller in Eagle WI because it is a 30 min drive from my families place up there but I'd much rather keep it local.
