Not much to go on yet but we know this so far.

That anti-gunners have formed a new coalition of gun control groups here in Illinois. They re-invented the wheel again.

They are pushing a dealer license scheme under the guise they think its reasonable. We can expect it to look like the Harmon bill in the Senate, SB-1883 from the comments and questions in the press.

They seem to think that Illinois is ripe for the picking on something since they seem to be failing everywhere else.

WE can expect them to play a game and put a push on over the last month of session.

I'm sure we'll see news stories about this tonight. . . .

And the Stories are up. . . .

I am sick and tired of these outsiders coming into the state with their money and trying to shove crap down our throats by hook or crook. Saw somewhere else where they were planning on using a "shell bill" that would be changed at the last second to their crap. That ought to be illegal!

It is illegal, under the Illinois Constitution article 4 section 8(d) clause 1 Bills, except bills for appropriations and for the codification, revision or rearrangement of laws, shall be confined to one subject. Appropriation bills shall be limited to the subject of appropriations

Let's see: huff and puff and make much ado about nothing. I can't believe that they (Harmon particularly) can't be bothered to understand that anyone who performs a legal transfer or even an ammo sale must possess a valid FOID already. I'm sure he already knows, just doesn't care and wants one in the "win" category...even if it does nothing.

I'm concerned as to what type of "easter eggs" are concealed within.

Might be the open records for ANY law enforcement part.

Couple that with Cook county's attempt to make ersatz "cops"

and all of a sudden I'm starting to worry about end run around the Tihart amendment,

implemented at the local level.

Right now the state MAY have old FOID/NICS approvals - but I sure as hades don't want

Tony Preckwinkle or Rahm Emmanual or other slugs getting hold of it.

My letter to the rabid anti-gun Libune that will never get printed:

Former Congresswoman Gabby Gifford participated in a press conference Thursday with a "new" Illinois anti-gun coalition advocating for stricter firearms laws in Illinois. As an Arizona native, where firearms regulations are not as onerous as those in Illinois, it is sadly apparent that this Illinois anti-gun coalition is taking advantage of her ignorance of Illinois firearms laws.
The first thing this coalition is pushing for is "Background checks for the employees of gun dealers." Current Illinois law requires that nobody can even touch firearms or ammunition without a current, valid Firearms Owners Identification card (FOID). In order to obtain an Illinois FOID card you must first submit to a comprehensive background check by the Illinois State Police. Clearly, every employee of gun dealers already have to submit to state required background checks.
The second thing the proposed bill advocates is dealers " know how to conduct a background check and how to spot and prevent straw purchases." Under existing federal law every firearms dealer before selling a firearm must first complete a federal NICS background check to a federal database and also complete a multi-page federal form 4437 which is used to eliminate purchases by those not qualified to own firearm. Existing federal laws already cover their concern.

In short, what this new Illinois anti-gun coalition is advocating are safeguards that are already in place in Illinois. I find it reprehensible that these people are taking advantage of a tragic victim of a deranged person to push for do-nothing, feel-good laws that will do nothing to reduce root causes of violent crime in Illinois.

This has gotta be the most idiotic crap I have ever seen them introduce. Well, in the last....year or so, at least. Let's do backgrounds on people who have FOIDs (and in many cases a CCL) since the FOID (and CCL) background(s) aren't sufficient, right? So we have the State basically saying that its FOID system is toothless. Doesn't do ANYTHING to "curb gun violence." Alternatively, the State is conceding that this is just window dressing and there is no rational basis for such a law. Which one is it, Illinois?
