unreal.

but on the other hand, money from foid revenue is not put back into the ISP foid program.

i wonder how many legal gun owners that like the ganja have already help fund the war on their own 2nd amendment right

This is kind of an important thing to know for gun owners that use MJ, wouldn’t you’d say?

without a doubt.

i'm not knocking anyone who partakes. its legal now anyway. but the fact that they record your name when you make a purchase, as shown in other threads, and now using revenue to fund anti-2a groups is just sickening.

Heard on the news yesterday that by Summer the political hacks in Chicago, Cook and the State will have added enough extra sin taxes on the sales that buyers will be paying over 40% TAX for every wacky-tobacky product.

I expect revenues to flat-line when every street punk in the city can beat that pricing differential by a wide margin and still buy their Escalades.

What I read on Second City Cop a week or so ago the "legal" stuff was already close to the normal street price. Jim.

I'm not surprised. I'm sure gun control orgs are just one of many beaks being whetted (even beyond those listed in the link) to keep the cook county political action machine happy and healthy. As I recall most of the money is to be spent on social justice type stuff (which of course means the politically connected and their armies of flunkies) instead of minor issues like unfunded pensions. Not that the pittance from the pot tax could do much about that disaster.

Not according to a guy a work with. He said it's a bit over 2x what he pays on the street.

Perhaps its a quality thing. I understand the stuff in the shops is pretty high end, so maybe the street price for a comparable product is the same, but the low end stuff still undercuts the legal shops

So this begs to question

We talk about those who WILL partake in the weed

And we talk about those who won’t due to laws

And now we are talking about another business which is assisting the anti’s which goes against us

So are we boycotting these places and NOT buying the weed?

Are we “Not giving them a dime” of our money since they are posted?

Just wondering out loud!

So, as a group whose number one mission is gun safety and prevention of inadvertent gun violence, why isn’t the Illinois NRA instructors organization not applying for R3 grants? Seems to me that most pro gun groups serve a dual purpose of protecting gun rights as well as trying to reduce injuries due to gun violence – by teaching victims to shoot back, among other things. Refuse to be a Victim groups is outstanding in this regard – Illinois NRA affiliates, take your rightful place at the trough!

Why are no illinois 2A groups pushing these write ups yet?!?!?!?!? Released today!

https://wqad.com/2020/01/18/cities-in-the-qca-eligible-for-grants-funded-by-recreational-marijuana-taxes/

ROCK ISLAND COUNTY, Illinois — Some area cities are eligible for a social equity grant funded by state taxes on recreational marijuana.

In Rock Island County, Rock Island, Moline and East Moline are included. Sterling, Illinois and Dixon, Illinois are also eligible for grant money.

On January 1, 2020, recreational marijuana became legal in Illinois. With the legalization, a program called “Restore, Reinvest, and Renew” (R3) was developed.

Eligible cities were selected based on community-level data, according to the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority. They looked at statistics on gun injury, child poverty, unemployment and state prison commitments and returns and combined that with areas that the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has deemed disproportionately impacted.

That money will fund community organizations that will help develop the economy, prevent violence, and give youth and civic legal aid.

The Restore, Reinvest and Renew (R3) program will target a significant portion of cannabis revenues to communities that have been ravaged by violence and have been disproportionately impacted by historical economic disinvestment.

Funding will come from revenues collected through the legalization of adult use of cannabis. After meeting costs associated with administration and enforcement of the legalization of cannabis and expungement of old records, the R3 program will receive 25 percent of remaining cannabis revenues.

Program funds will be used to reduce gun violence through intervention and prevention, to improve re-entry and diversion services for people involved with the criminal justice system, and to support programs that improve the social determinants of health.

HOW THE PROGRAM WILL WORK

Working in coordination with Lt. Gov. Juliana Strattons Justice, Equity and Opportunity Initiative (JEO), the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) will identify communities eligible for designation as R3 Areas.

R3 Area designation will be based on ICJIAs data analysis, which will be made public, and ICJIA will recalculate the data for eligibility every four years. Data analysis will include rates of disinvestment, violence, gun injury, unemployment, child poverty and state prison commitments and returns to the community.

The program will be operated by the R3 Program Board, a statewide board reflecting the diversity of the state and chaired by the Lieutenant Governor.

In addition to the Lieutenant Governor, the R3 Program Boards ex officio members will include the Attorney General, Directors of six state agencies, and four legislators chosen by the Democrat and Republican leaders of the House and Senate. As Chair, the Lieutenant Governor will appoint additional Program Board members, including public officials from each of the R3 Areas, representatives of four community based-providers or community development organizations, two violence reduction experts, and four people previously incarcerated.

The R3 Program Board will develop a process to solicit grant applications from R3 Areas, review and approve grant applications, measure positive outcomes, monitor and evaluate R3 programs and publish progress reports. Grant funds will be awarded by ICJIA in coordination with the R3 Program Board, which will provide training and technical assistance in R3 Areas.

Grants will be used to address economic development, violence prevention services, re-entry services, youth development, and civil legal aid.

So there you go, articles are right. Gun violence mentioned by name by the Illinois Justice Project. And they are a member of the Illinois Gun Violence Prevention Coalition. Heres from ICHVs website in regards to coalition members

The Trace: Legal Weed Could Send Millions of Dollars to Illinoiss Violence Prevention Groups

Now, gun violence prevention groups may have found a boon in an unlikely source: legal weed. Last month, Illinois lawmakers approved legislation to legalize recreational marijuana. The bill earmarks a sizable share of the states expected profits to anti-violence efforts in underprivileged neighborhoods. Service providers say the move could inject tens of millions of dollars into struggling community programs, greatly expanding opportunities for at-risk Chicagoans and potentially reducing gun violence. The states new Democratic governor, J.B. Pritzker, has been a vocal champion of marijuana legalization and is expected to sign the bill.

Thats from June of last year. This is all a scam to fund gun control!

Those links have been added in to main source (where I got them from). Looks like they were added in sometime recently

Virginia has nothing on Illinois.

Illinois may just one up them with Harmon at the helm in the Senate. Thanks in advance, Chicago area Democrats, for causing people to get extremely upset with your civilian disarmament agenda that doesnt do anything to protect the public from the root causes of crimes involving guns

Oh, and thanks for encouraging people to get high (especially via the Lt. Governors little publicity stunt on 1/1) and adding to possible impaired driving accidents/deaths just so you can fund gun control. Great idea ;)

Once the Bolsheviks get in, they stay in power by any means necessary.

Yup. Guess we might as well start smoking legal weed and help fund our own demise lol. Curious to see if any pro-gun groups email blast it. Everyday that goes by is thousands of dollars put into the R3 program by unsuspecting gun owners that are buying legal weed

Do you actually think the people buying weed are going to stop buying weed because part of the taxes might go to gun control groups?
