It's kind of a small venue but worth going to depending on how far you travel. They seem to hold it once or twice a year.

Check out their basement indoor range while you're there.  The last I went, they were giving everyone a look see.  Membership was cheap and shooting was cheap.

Interesting that they have a range. I remember when they had the fire and I assumed (incorrectly) that would be the end of their range. Glad to hear they got it up and going again. That is blocks from my house and I would love to be able to support them with membership and shoot there but I don't think I qualify based on what I can gather from the website...

I went through tour at their last gun show. They rebuilt and it was pretty new. Airflow turnover was very quick. It is a small range, 5 lanes I think. There used to be some ammo restrictions iirc but it sounds like that may no longer be the case. EDIT: only hollow point allowed is .22

I believe there is a supporting membership anyone can join through. In addition to fees, I believe there were a number of service hours with that level to be worked the first year.

From what I remember...., 40$ a year, join as Friends Of The Post membership, volunteer 10 hrs a yr. Then 10$ range fee after you join, no hollow points any pistol caliber.  I think they will do a range demo all day of the gun show.

Quotes from web page...http://villaparkvfw.org/gun-range/. The show notice indicates tours of the range are available.

..."Our range is open to all Post VFW Members, our VFW Auxiliary Members, and our Friends of the Post (FOTP) sponsors, and their families.

This is a private range for our members only.

Our calendar will show days and times when our volunteer RSOs will be in the range only for our members use.

Our range is a 50 ft. (Per NRA Match Standards) range that uses a state of the art computer controlled target system. One can shoot any common centerfire pistol cartridges, NO centerfire rifles are allowed.

Our range has excellent air circulation. The exchange is superior to other ranges and it is heated and cooled for year round comfort.

Our range has been operational now for 4 years."...

Anybody else attend?

I'm glad I went!  Rather small, but I still managed find some goodies :)

Prices were very good on some items.

I managed to pick up yet another holster (Desantis Inside heat). New only $15!

Tho I've never used em I got a pair of CAA AR mags for 5 bux each.  Figured I'd take a chance. If they work well, I'll kick myself for not buying more.

Targets $5 per pad of 50 silhouettes.

Also got a pair of raffle tickets for a local charity. Prize, of course is a pistol. (Forget what it was, but I mostly just wanted to contribute)

Folks there were very friendly!  Chatted a bit with some of the vendors (North American Arms was there).  They even had a Sub2000 on the table(.40 tho).

Came close to buying a 60 dollar Anderson stripped lower.  (I know I'll regret it..Heheheh)

A funny thing about this show...no GFZ signs.

Fewer vendors than past shows I think and smaller crowd. They didn't do as much advertising for this one so many probably did not know about it. I had been looking for an Inside Heat (backordered online) and that's a good price, he just didnt have the model I needed.

That is good to hear.

My wife and I went to the VFW in Wheaton yesterday for their fish fry.  As I drove by the entrance I saw a large non-compliant GFZ sign.

I continued to drive through the parking lot and out to the street.  My wife agreed, and we went to a regular restaurant.

How can a group whose members, at one point in their life, took an oath to defend and protect the Constitution, post such a sign?

Probably because the bar is their main source of income.

Then they are in violation of Illinois law, because their sign is not compliant.  It is too big and of the wrong design.

There is nothing that says that they cannot post a compliant sign and another stating it is posted under force of law.

At least they would be making some visible effort to support the Constitution.

I went. It was very small. Like slightly bigger than a yard sale. Some decent deals. I snagged some Safariland speedloaders for k frames and a mountainsmith butt pack for hunting. Both were screaming/stupid good deals. Then drooled at bikes over at MCC. Then visited a guy with a Harley Road Glide that’s screaming my name. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Why don't you ask them?

Just to be clear, these last few posts are about the Wheaton VFW, their bar sales and their posting. Not the the Villa Park VFW.

I just sent an email with the following to the Wheaton VFW.

I will report back with the results.

"On Friday April 21, I drove to your post to try your fish fry.  I noticed the no guns allowed sign at the door.  Since you would deny me the ability to protect myself and my wife we chose to drive on.

I find it odd that an organization whose members at least one time in their life swore to defend and protect the Constitution would not honor the Second Amendment.

If you have time I would like to know the reason for posting the sign. For now I will avoid your unsafe location.

I do thank you and wish you well in your services to our veterans.

Respectfully,

[My Name]"

The post commander responded.

They are required to post because their alcohol sales are greater than 51% of sales.

I will think about.  I avoid patronizing businesses that post.  With those that are forced by law to post, I am less strict.

By the wording of their email, it is obvious that it was not from some gun hating lefty.

Seems they are simply following the law. Reevaluate your focus.

Personally, If the times and people are good? I would let it slide in favor of patronizing a place I want to be and redirect any efforts accordingly.
