TO: Senate Republican Caucus and Staff
FROM: Senate Republican Leader Bill Brady
DATE: December 31, 2020
I wanted to take this opportunity to let you all know that I will be resigning my seat in the Illinois Senate effective at 11:59 PM, December 31, 2020.
I am proud of the work I have done throughout my career in the Illinois legislature, both in the Illinois House and the Senate, and most proud of my tenure leading the Illinois Senate Republican Caucus over the last three-and-a-half years.
Over the years, our caucus was successful in securing additional funding for our public schools; helping create a tax-credit private school scholarship program for low and middle-income students, standing up against incomes tax hikes that hurt working families, and working tirelessly to improve our state’s crumbling infrastructure.
Illinois has much it can be proud of, and I am proud to have made a contribution during my time in office, and to have worked with each of you. I wish you all success as the 102nd General Assembly prepares to convene.

He can't give the gun control organizations money anymore when he is not in the leadership position.

Vulnerable Senate Republicans get boost from Gun Violence Prevention PAC

https://thedailyline.net/chicago/10/29/2018/vulnerable-senate-republicans-get-boost-from-gun-violence-prevention-pac/

Article leads with:

Three suburban Republican senators facing touch re-election bids are getting help from the Gun Violence Prevention Political Action Committee during a year dominated by debates over gun policy and headlines about gun violence in Illinois and beyond.
Earlier this month, the Republican State Senate Campaign Committee contributed $38,000 to the Gun Violence Prevention Political Action Committee — the largest one-time contribution the organization known as GPAC has received in its nearly six-year history. According to campaign finance records, the Republican committee’s donation also makes it the fourth largest donor to the committee, coming in just behind three people directly involved with the founding and operations of GPAC.

It may be temporary.

GOPs who support gun control have not done well in IL lately.

They alienate their base, and while they are RINOs, they are not real democrats.

Why would a liberal vote for a RINO when they can have the real thing?

It's funny how easy that is for most people to understand while flying right over the heads of folks that need to understand it most.

Why would you step aside and then run a couple years later?

Maybe he will run for governor. He may believe that after 2 terms with Governor Pritzker, that people will want a change of parties.

He would present himself as a moderate Republican who can work with both parties.

I am not endorsing him. I am guessing about his motives.

When he last ran for governor, IIRC, he said he would push to pass a CCW law according to TV at the time. He lost the primary's pretty bad. A couple years later I was in the beer line at the last fling and he happened to be right in front of me. After saying hello and introducing myself including that he had my vote previously for the CCW law, I asked what he was doing to get Madigan out of the way. He continued to explain that Madigan isn't the problem which at that point he lost me. He did suggest we work at the local level more.

I had a conversation with Rep. Allen Skillicorn (R-66) at the Wheaton gunshow counter-protest a while back, in that same vein.... Seems that Madigan is a significant impediment to a LARGE group of (wacko (my assessment, not his)) progressives, and without him keeping a lid on them things would be a lot worse.

So I'm actually one of his constituents and have been following him for over a decade. I find it hilarious people in this thread are calling him a RINO. His views most definitely line up closely to core Republican Party views. IMO it's also why he kept losing his run for Governor. With as blue as the state is, the only way a Republican will be elected governor at the present is if they run with a moderate platform.

For what it's worth, at least the 105th district will only have one Brady now in state government so that's at least a small sense of relief. I had to try really hard distinguishing him from the other (Dan) Brady!

The Illinois Republican Party Platform speaks of the party's support for the Second Amendment, stating:

We believe that day-to-day safety and security in our local communities is critical. Therefore, we strongly endorse and support the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, which states, in part, “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” As a result, we oppose any efforts by the state or municipalities to impede the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.

Mr. Brady charted a different course in his support of anti-gun political candidates.

He signed a check for $38000 to go to gun control groups to prop up wienies that ended up losing anyway.

He gave your money to gun control.

He gave GOP money to gun control.

Now what do YOU call that?
