Willy handing out the cabbage

Sorry if this has already been posted elsewhere on the forum. Chicago is a plague, and if I never enter the city again, I'll be just fine with that. I grew up there, and worked there every single day for 30 years. Now I never want to go back again.

Not that it's at all right, but...

How is this "Willy handout to the poor" any different than the Farmer Bailout that President Trump announced today? Except, it's gonna be 12 billion dollars coming out of our pockets to temporarily fix a problem Mr Trump created.

Is it OK because it's Trump... even though he's doing it so his farmer supporters, hit hard by his tariffs, will still vote R in the fall if they get some sort of bailout cash even while losing big time from his tariff war ?

I suppose he could flip-flop on the tariffs and/or the farmer bailout in a few days... and it's just fake news again.

I see nothing wrong with this. I wish vote buying was legal. I'd rather get some jingle then be assaulted with a million campaign advertisements that we the people end up paying for anyway via corporate subsidies.

Poor white people are the new black people, and Trump is their Obama.

...Poor white people are the new black people, and Trump is their Obama.

The poor white people I know want Bernie and hate Trump.
Those are the bohemians. They usually come from middle class families, have every opportunity to not be poor, but choose to be poor because it's cool. Usually are in debt for some worthless liberal arts college degree.

I'm thinking more the rural generationally poor white people. They do everything right, on the moral high road, work hard, but just can't seem to get ahead. They are totally overlooked by any politician except as of recent Trump. Time will tell if they benefit, but they definitely have their champion in the white house.

In a way the farm subsidies handout was looked at buying their vote, but it's a myth that America's flyover country is made up of individual farmers. Most of the industry, especially soybeans are factory farms.

That's why I want some individual kickbacks, starting with selling my vote to the highest bidder.

Actually, that's a pretty close description. I don't know about thinking it's "cool" though. The vibe I get is more "I did what I was supposed to (somewhat arguable) and now everybody else has stuff but me. When is it my turn?"

Gotcha. A buddy and I drove through Arkansas, Missouri and Iowa right before Trump was elected. He was pointing out all the Hillary stickers he saw. I asked him if he even noticed the homemade anti-Hillary billboards and painted barns. It's one thing to put a sticker on your Prius and a whole other thing to re-shingle your barn to say **** Hillary. That's when I first realized Trump had a very good chance of winning... I guess, not being too familiar with farmers and farming, I haven't really thought of them as "poor".

Is not the purpose of the recent tariffs to get other countries to back down from their own inflated tariffs and encourage fair trade? To me seems like the recent farm subsidies were intended to offset losses until the tariffs work or are abandoned. He put "them" (individual or corporate) in this situation and he wants to keep things afloat until it's over. Right or wrong? IDK, but it doesn't feel like "buying votes" to me... more like supporting a segment of his base that he temporarily "threw under the bus". Too optimistic? Again, IDK, but doesn't feel at all the same as rolling up in church and declaring, "I'm running for office. Who wants money?"

Chuckle.

OT: Quoting on this forum does have issues. It works fine in that I had this whole post correctly quoted and formatted but it wouldn't let me post it because of exceeding some quote limit. I had to switch to italicized to represent quoted content...

  • 2 weeks later...

I voted for Willy last time and I'll vote for him again. Far better than the other clowns and Socialists running.

I would too if I lived in Chicago!

"Those are bohemians", I'm just at a loss of words to respond to that.

The farm subsidies is not a vote buyer they are a time buyer...

A trade war we clearly will win and if (when) repatriation of American companies starts the "Great Again" is going to be really really big...
