TRJ Posted August 31, 2018 at 05:58 PM Share Posted August 31, 2018 at 05:58 PM Any options you might know about that are worth my time? While I don't want to spend over $500 on this...it's more of a toy than anything serious...I do want something quality so I can depend on it if I ever need the toy to take a more serious role. DD123 Posted August 31, 2018 at 06:21 PM Share Posted August 31, 2018 at 06:21 PM I think what you're going to run across when looking for scopes that have long eye relief, is a bunch of handgun scopes. How many inches do you figure you'll need from your eye, to the eyepiece of the scope? The Leapers stuff is airsoft quality. I have a $20 red dot (not Leapers, but basically the same crap) and it works, but the mechanism that holds zero is the weak point. It works, but I'm not going to trust my life to it. Check out what Vortex offers. Even their lower priced stuff is decent, and it's backed by their unconditional lifetime warranty. I believe most of their riflescopes are 4" or less eye relief. If you need more than that, you'll need to start looking at Scout rifle specific scopes, and handgun scopes. The problem with handgun scopes is depending on your needs, they might have too much eye relief lol. SWFA may have some options to look at that would be far better than the airsoft stuff they sell on amazon.
TRJ Posted August 31, 2018 at 06:30 PM Author Share Posted August 31, 2018 at 06:30 PM Need 13" +/- .5" eye relief. There's a HiLux model out there that like $150. Also seems like garbage...but it has 13" eye relief. https://swfa.com/leatherwood-2-7x32-long-eye-relief-scout-scope-3.html

capnbill Posted August 31, 2018 at 08:49 PM Share Posted August 31, 2018 at 08:49 PM This will put you closer to $600, but you won't regret it. The VX-R 1.5-5x33mm Illuminated Scout Scope combines the ease of the FireDot Duplex Reticle with a variable magnification optic that is designed to be mounted forward of the receiver. https://gundigest.com/gear-ammo/leupolds-vx-r-scout-firedot-new-age-scout-scope

In order to keep the action and ejection clear of scope I need 13".

TRJ Posted September 1, 2018 at 02:14 AM Author Share Posted September 1, 2018 at 02:14 AM Have you considered a standard rifle scope mount? No. I don't want it to interfere with ejection. I've heard of that arrangement inducing malfunction.
capnbill Posted September 1, 2018 at 02:28 AM Share Posted September 1, 2018 at 02:28 AM This is the Leupold Scope on my Ruger Scout rifle; I didn't measure the eye relief distance but I'm sure it's around the 12" range. I may lose something at that distance but I haven't really noticed what it might be.

Have to shift your head around to see? Or is it something that is perfect and lined up for a snap shot as soon as you mount?

TRJ Posted September 13, 2018 at 12:20 AM Author Share Posted September 13, 2018 at 12:20 AM I got the Burris 2-7X32. Looks great. Much better than the Bubba red dot that was on there, and with the exception of low light use this puts the "fun" in functional. Maybe Sunday I'll go to the range and zero. Pay no attention to the messy bench.

The handgun scope actually makes me push my face forward an inch or two at 7 power, but the intent isn't to use anything more than 4 power anyway.
