Last state to get ccw, first state to get rid of it.

I will vote against Pritzker for several reasons, including his anti-2A politics, but I do not see how he would end CCL.

It was passed because of a Supreme Court decision. The anti-2A Democratic legislature even over-rode Governor Quinn's veto, because they feared repercussions from the Court.

Pritzker, if elected, will try other attacks on our 2A rights.

EDIT: I was corrected below by gangrel. It was a 7th Circuit Court of Appeal, not SCOTUS.

Thanks for the correction.

A 7CA decision, not a Supreme Court decision. But otherwise, yes.

the first thing he will go after in FCCL is preemption. that's the biggest thorn in the side of IL democrats around gun control.

they know semiauto rifles don't kill people in IL. they know handguns overwhelmingly do. they want to ban all handguns in problem communities, and preemption stops them from doing that. they don't care that handgun bans won't fix economic and criminal issues, but they get a win with their base for trying to "curb the violence from guns"

Once JBP is governor the dems will simply whittle FCCL away a little at a time to the point the only place you will be able to carry is on your own property.

However, that is EXACTLY one of the main points that Heller ruled on. Attempting to do that has already been ruled on, and won't fly. What he WILL do, until it is finally taken up by SCOTUS or the State SC, is banning away most useable guns.

I would argue any 'ban' that effectively bans most, let alone all, handguns will be challenged and thrown out. Although, Heller wimped out and left the hole open for State and municipalities to limit legal gun types. However, imho, contrary to idiots like the Highland Park Mayor, they didn't give carte blanche. It would be, again, imho, a hard sale to say that handguns are excessively dangerous COUPLED with the fact, that the are the ONLY option for self-defense outside the home.

The Concealed Carry Act was passed by a Democrat-controlled legislature and signed by a Democrat governor.

He vetoed it and was overridden. Sadly I remember all the praise that Madigan was given for his floor speech before the original passing. All charades to make himself look not so bad.

Madigan gets what Madigan wants plain and simple. 99% of the laws passed in my lifetime were made with Madigan's approval. The other 1% were either court ordered requirements or a very short stint with a Republican majority.

I'm sure once he finally kicks the bucket, we know he won't retire, they'll want to build him a library too.

Quinn didn't sign it.

He tried to make it an AWB.

Hopefully everybody that voted against Jumbo Blago will do so again in a few months.

Frankly, we need to use fear tactics to all the FOID holders (and those that aren't but want the option) that JB WILL take your guns. Need to get all of those motivated to vote.

I think the size of IGOLD this year will be telling on how complacent gun owners are this election cycle. With all the anti-trump rally's and whatever other guise their protests have been deemed, there has yet to be a countering event to show strength in numbers on our aide as well.

Frankly, I think most who gave up have already relocated out of state and the rest of us are moving in that direction.

Madigan will run this state to its last buckling knee and then bail with his corrupt counterparts nd let the Republicans takeover majority for IL's last gasp so they will take the fall of being in control when it finlly collapses.

Lots of doom and gloom in this thread. Not very encouraging at all. Sounds like some of you have all but thrown in the towel. :-/

Was not signed by a Democrat governor. It was mandatory vetoed by a Democrat governor, and the veto was overturned by the Democrat-controlled legislature.

Not that I disagree generally, but specifically utilizing fear mongering probably isn't even necessary. Just straight up show people the bullet points in the anti-gun bills (since most won't read the entire text, obviously). All of those bills easily pass and become signed into law with Jumbo at the helm, and then it's fought it court, etc. Honestly though I don't think this one is won using guns as the top issue. There's about 2.1 million FOID owners, and assuming 95% of them actually care about their 2A rights, that's 1.99 million people that should be voting GOP automatically. Maybe that 95% assumption is way off, idk.

The primary numbers are interesting to me. Looking at it: only 703k people voted for a Republican governor candidate. From Republican voters I know personally, some of them stayed home for the primary, as they felt neutrally about the competing Republican candidates. Maybe that statement is BS, but it's all I have to go off of. If it is BS, and it's an accurate representation of how Rauner will do in November, we are totally screwed - start packing now. The Dems came out big huge numbers yesterday - a total of 1.26 million votes, but a little less than 1/2 went to JB (573k), 695k went towards the other candidates...

So my question is: how many Dems vote directly against JB because they hate him? (Like what happened in '14 with Quinn)

If anything, our sales pitch should be targeted at the 695k Dems that DIDN'T vote for JB. After all, Rauner gave them (correct me if I'm wrong) the "reasonable" advancement with "social" policy the Dems wanted.. And did **ok** holding off Madigan's blood-thirst for power, tax dollars, and increased spending - which appeased a chunk of the Dems who can't stand the Madigan tax/spending policy... We'll have to flip a lot of voters that don't GAF about guns... I think this one has the best chance winning pushing the money stuff as the top issue - JB totally lets Madigan off the leash.

But maybe I'm way off.

I was particularly talking about motivating most (preferably all) 2A believing voters. To me that is more than just Republicans. I also mentioned because of the laissez faire attitudes I see at ranges, gun stores etc. IMHO, we, as a community need a fire lit under our arse. I also that fear mongering and fire lighting BY our community.

But no, it wouldn't be the ONLY play either. You outlined good platform points for Rauner to use. I agree, and throw in corruption aspect, pay to play, cronyism et al, and aim at the Moderate Dems out there.

I KNOW there is effort and money to mobilize the Dem vote, and want to see the same on our side, of which one motivator is 2A rights, from a grass roots motivation standpoint. I guarantee there were voters that voted Trump because most knew Hillary would gun grab.

I saw JBP in person in a motel/hotel near St. Louis last December. This motel has a great breakfast buffet which JBP liked a lot. He is a massive coronary waiting to happen! What is his running mate like politically because we may see her in action?

She is an Identity Politics running mate, female and African American. Only really helps him, imho, in areas Rauner has little chance at anyhow.
