Women's CCL class?

My girlfriend expressed some interest in getting her CCL. I'll take her to the range with me for a while to get her up to speed on good safety habits and gun operation and see if she really wants to go through with it.

Does anyone know of any courses with female instructors near Chicago? I'd have her go to Colleen L, but last I heard she wasn't going to be teaching for a while. I think she would appreciate a female instructor.

Frank at Fortress Defense has two female instructors, V and Trish. Just sent my wife and a friend to see them for ladies self defense training. They'll do a ladies only two day defensive handgun class in the spring http://fortressdefense.com/training-services/womens-defensive-pistol-level-i/. This might be a good option to help get her prepared beyond simply learning the legal stuff and basic holster stuff in the licensing class.

Of course you could always sign her up to attend with you in a non-gender specific class. Just know if she whoops your butt in completing the final aptitude test at the end of the second day you're never going to hear the end of it.

I concur. My wife & I attended the IL CCL class that Veronica hosted/instructed. Quality instruction without any fluff. We have both attended classes with Fortress in which V & Trish were staff instructors. Can't say enough about these two fine gals. My wife came away from one of their women's intro classes a much better disciplined & informed shooter. They were able to make her understand things that in 35+ years I couldn't. She still doesn't listen very well to me ; ) but she's a much improved shooter without a doubt....

If she does that I'll probably ask her to marry me LOL

While we don't often do IL CCL licensing classes- my partner is bored by PowerPoint- we do a lot of mostly all-shooting classes.

We- she's- doing a Women's CCW Shooting Class at Pine Tree Pistol Club in Rockford on Sunday, January 29th, 2017. This will be working with actual practical carry methods instead of range-type holsters and equipment such as we usually use in our regular Holster classes, and will be female-specific.
It's four hours, 9am to 1pm and the class fee is only $100. Pine Tree in effect is partly subsidizing the class, in hopes their members will take advantage, but it's open to any woman with her own gun and gear (although we can provide both for additional use).

That's a steal, to get a class with an A-class USPSA shooter who is also an experienced, professional instructor who can walk the walk (I've seen a 0.88 second draw to an A-zone hit at ten yards from open holster).

The class is referenced in an adjacent post but I think it bears mention here. Limited to 10 ladies.

We are hoping to institute this same class on an ongoing basis at our commercial ranges too, such as GAT, R355, and 5 Star. But, it won't be at such a low price as the range fees in those places are higher.
