Governor Commits to Veto Gun Dealer Licensing Bill!

Signs Emergency Intervention Bill and 72-Hr. Waiting Period

IllinoisCarry would like to thank Governor Rauner for announcing at a press conference in Chicago today that he will veto SB337, the gun dealer licensing bill. The bill was passed by both House and Senate during the spring legislative session but has not been sent to the Governor's desk yet. It is good to know that when it is sent, it will be dead on arrival!!

The Governor signed HB2354. The new law provides for emergency intervention when someone is threatening to commit suicide,or a school shooting, work place violence, etc.

We in the firearms community strongly feel someone who is a danger to themselves or others should not be in possession of firearms. We know how important emergency intervention is when someone is posing a danger to themselves or others. However, we also hold strong to the fact that Second Amendment Constitutional rights must also be protected. The Second Amendment community worked long and hard to insure those protections are in this bill:

1. The level of clear and convincing evidence required for an order to be issued is among the highest level in the nation.

2. The order is not final until the respondent has a hearing before a judge, and this must happen with 14 days or sooner.

3. The respondent does not lose ownership of their property. They can transfer possession to someone they trust for safekeeping.

4. The new law calls for immediate expungement if the petition is determined to be unfounded and if the order is issued, the respondent's record is sealed after a period of three years.

5. The penalty for providing false testimony is a felony offense, which we believe will help deter vengeful/vexatious claims.

Earlier in the day, the Governor signed the 72-hr. waiting period bill. We want to thank the Governor for making sure the proposed definition of "assault weapons' was NOT codified into law. The bill passed with a super-majority in both chambers and a veto would have easily been overridden. The bill now creates a uniform waiting period on all firearms. IllinoisCarry will continue to work for an exemption for concealed carry license holders.

This is some bull puckey. There's no reason I should have to wait 72 hours for a firearm when I walk into the store with one already strapped to my hip. There's absolutely no reason I should have to wait 72 hours for a long gun, especially when I buy one from another state. This is ridiculous.

Yep, he lost my vote, my entire family's vote, and 99% of my friends.

Imagine what a Gov Pritzker would do. Rauner sucks, but he sucks less.

Yep. Anyone who doesn’t vote for Rauner is supporting JB indirectly. Pull your heads out of rear rear ends

Some of us tried to primary him.

After the PP funding, I’m totally not surprised.

But hey, battered women and stalked prey victims were doing a bang up job at laying low for 24 hours, so stretching it 48 more shouldn’t be no thang.

Nobody’s saying we should live under the fear of evil men forever, just for 72 hours. And while we’re at it, if you can get by 72 hours, you can probably get by longer.

This is a tried and true tactic of the statist gun-grabbers, they inch their agenda forward by giving the governor bills he can veto for political cover but pressure him to pass the less impactful bills.

Its true that Quinn or Pritzker would have rubber stamped any gun control bills coming out of the ILGA. If Pritzker gets elected its going to be horrible for Illinois gun owners.

Most people realize that the "cooling off" period as the wait was known when it was passed years back, only works if a person has no other guns available.

If like many of us, a person owns more than one gun already, the waiting period is nothing more than an infringement. It will stop ZERO crimes.

But TPTB know this, and they couldn't care less.

I will hold my nose and vote for Bruce Rauner in November. He may not be ideal, or even close to ideal, but the alternative is hideous in more ways than one.

Life in Madiganistan...

While I'm not a fan of any of this crap, I can say this:

If you don't vote for Rauner this election, you might as well as put on a dress, sell your guns, and start voting democrat, because staying home or voting third party guarantees a win for Pricksturd.

Yeah it doesn’t even matter. Between the PP deal and this the voter turnout won’t be high enough to win. That’s just fact. It’s not that JB is going to win, it’s that Rauner is going to lose.

The majority of people here will still give this guy their vote. There could be video of him slashing their own grandmother's throat and they'd still vote for him. He's the "lesser of two evils", doncha know?

Rauner is a clown. He's never been a friend of ours. How can you sign a 72h waiting period if you're in favor of gun rights? Has any such waiting period EVER been proven to be effective in reducing crime?

Who does Rauner beieve his base is? Who is he think he's capitulating to? Soccer moms? Or he just thinks it'll give Pritzker less ammo against him in campaign ads? Is he trying to appear to be moderate by vetoing one bill but signing the other?

He's buying no points with the left...and at the same time managing to piss off half of what should be his stronghold. He's too dumb to be governor. He can't make a strong case why these laws are bad...because he believes in them. He couldn't even rally enough Republicans together to stop the override of the veto on the tax increase. He's a joke.

Rauner was the LAST chance to save this state. He squandered it. The state is finished. Done. It's over. Get used to it.

Between now and election day I'm going to stockpile a bunch of AR lowers. I won't comply with any ban. I wonder how many of the readers here will join me.

With a shrinking republican voter base in this state, one would think that republican voters were logical enough to realize that taking their ball and going home (not voting), guarantees that everything they're against gets rubber stamped when the house, senate, and governor's house are all ruled over by the dems.

That'll show them....

The GOP voters in this state are one of the biggest reasons I want to GTFO as soon as possible. Rather than acknowledge the reality we're living in, and figuring out how to win in spite of how our voter base has been shrinking (we do know that most of the people that are fleeing don't vote democrat right ? ), we "vote with our conscious" by staying home and allowing someone who would sign bills FAR WORSE than anything Rauner would sign.

Staying home this election rather than voting for Rauner is like pulling your goalie and then being shocked when empty net goals are scored, because that's exactly what Pricksturd would be in this analogy.....the empty net letting goals (bills) in. And voting third party would be like your own team member scoring on your own goal lol.

It's hilarious how dumb GOP voters are.....that they'll stay home and let someone else win, someone who would be far worse on abortion LOL. By standing on "principle", and staying home rather than voting for Rauner, you allow that "principle" you stood on, to get trampled on by Pricksturd, when he gets in and just allows everything through that the general assembly wants.

Here's what GOP voters, voting with their conscious will get us:

- Rubber stamped bills on everything we've been fighting against as "conservatives" in Illinois

- AR bans

- Mag capacity bans

- Armor bans

- Horribly out of balance budgets

- Funding for even more "social" projects that the GOP would have a stroke over if Rauner approved of them. Don't like abortions, guess what the ILGA will do once they have Pricksturd in who will just sign whatever abortion bills they send him?

- Progressive income tax, along with other taxes being raised, or new ones instituted.

All of this, and more, thanks to people who "vote their conscious".

Getting caught/arrested and losing them would stink. Then there's the criminal record. Moving out of Illinois is probably the only option if JB wins.

A friend's son was arrested recently because of a domestic violence charge. This was before this new bill was signed BTW. After his arrest and arraignment, he was required to turn in his guns to be held for disposition. That all happened 4 days after the event had occurred. Thankfully, his outburst did not involve guns and he had cooled down with both people keeping their distance. But it did get me thinking that had a less rational person been involved that 4 days is a long time. If this bill helps get guns out of the hands of someone acting irrationally but has the judicial process for quick review, then that is good for all of us. The last thing any of needs is guns being used irresponsibly.

Lol I myself would love to move out of here but I don’t know if you guys have noticed but bills like these are popping up even in the most gun friendly states. They are gonna keep trying there and what makes you think it won’t happen 5 years from now? How many times are you going to move? Unless you mean as a whole? This state is done as a whole but if you’re moving just because of gun control bills you might be in for a suprise later on. If this is the last straw for you aside from all the rest of the bs, well I don’t blame you hope you guys the best. Taxes, crime, corrupt dems, etc, is enough for anyone to wanna leave.

You know what makes me more upset, people that know they are leaving in a year or 2 or even months from now, not voting cause they’re “out”. Thats like giving all of us the finger on the way out.
