IL CCL Renewal

Anyone seen the actual time-frames that the ISP has processed?

I submitted for my renewal with all required docs + payment as soon as I was able on 1/22/19 (expires 4/14/19) but still "under review"

Getting somewhat concerned but not too surprised by the processing time, it took 14 weeks for the initial issue.

I'm not applying until the day before i expire so i don't "lose out" on time. As far as i read that's legal (not a violation) anyway, Like it says "as long as you've applied" for your renewal.

See: 430 ILCS 66/70 ©

Where it CLEARLY states © A license is invalid upon expiration of the license, unless the licensee has submitted an application to renew the license, and the applicant is otherwise eligible to possess a license under this Act.

Otherwise I've heard you will and do "lose time" if you renew too far in advance. My one friend 'lost' a whole month! So I'll apply to renew the day before and carry around a copy of my renewal application/status and continue to carry!

There is a bill introduced that if passed would eliminate this "loss of time" but ofc given the current political makeup here i don't expect it to pass! Though to me that would just be logical, allow people to renew up to 3 months early but let their license carry the same expiry date + 5 years (to the day)!

But it's also because of this that i actually anticipate possibly "gaining time"! Say for example my license expired 4/15/19 but i didn't submit to renew until the 14th, by the time they get to me is not going to be an expiry of 4/15/24 but may be something like 4/30/24 or 5/15/24 :D

Just my $0.02

That's what I did. Well, two days I guess. I expired today and applied on the first. In 5 years of carrying, I've not once had to show my carry license so I don't expect that I will have to teach anyone about 430 ILCS 66/70 c, but it's legal. We are getting screwed enough as it is having to pay to exercise our constitutional rights; might as well tack on a few "free" days.

When the law initially went into effect, there was a glut of applications (I'm in that group). It seems there was a large group renewing around the 2/28/2019 timeframe that may have accounted for the long delay a large group of us seemed to have had. Looks like we all applied as early as possible and weren't renewed until a couple weeks after "expiration". Given we all (I assume) are and have been law-abiding, responsibly CCW'ing, submitted valid renewals, these should have been a hand-wave after a quick background check. Since it looks like we were all just batch approved, it seems there might have been a political/administrative hold. Hopefully, that nonsense has passed and won't hold up your renewal.

Exactly! This is why I will carry my expired CCL, and a photocopy of my renewal application! So that if I do get asked, I can provide the documentation proving I am in compliance with 430 ILCS 66/70-c.

I have had several traffic stops in the last 5 years, and although asked about if I was carrying at the moment none of the officers have ever asked to actually see my CCL. I even had one incident on my motorcycle where I was FULLY exposed (I carry OWB like in my sig pic, just covered) and an officer pointed that out at a red light, so I just covered up and went about my way. He too never even pulled me over let alone asked to see my CCL. I presume he knew I was carrying legit though because he probably just ran my tag/DL. But yea, I was just chillin at a red light on NORTH AVE rt64, and a cop rolled up sitting at the same light right next to me. Started pointing at me, and I motioned for him to roll down his window and he said "your piece is showing" LOL. I covered it up and nothing further came of it! My jacket had very apparently just blown up from the wind of the act of riding my motorcycle, and I didn't even know it!

My wife and I renewed on the same day, 1/30/19. Both of us went "active" in the system again on 5/2/19. We both had submitted fingerprints for our initial licenses. Given the weekend, I expect to see our new licenses in the mail tomorrow or Wednesday.

I seem to recall that the State Police website stated that we'd get an email when the status changed, and that didn't happen.

I dont think I know anyone who has received an email from the ISP about anything.

I renewed 3/2/2019 still under review. I wonder if they're taking their sweet time to allow the legislature time to change the laws so they can throw up additional roadblocks.

Only CCL laws changed were the 5 year expire date. Legislature has adjourned until fall veto session in October.

Does it make sense renewals are taking longer than original applications? NO! Especially when there is not a 30 day LE objection period during renewal.

Here's a good one March 3rd my FOID was approved and renewed.

March 8th I submitted by CCL renewal

Supposed to be done in 120 days right?

Today is 120 days and it's still "under review"

Illinois will do anything to delay, stall, and make it more difficult for gun owners to exercise their constitutional rights.

Oh I still carry, I have a copy of the law in my pocket, and a copy of my renewal just in case

End of this month it won't matter because I'm leaving IL for good, aside from the occasional visit.

So you paid $150 for 4 months of carry?

If you were already leaving in 4 months I wouldn’t have given the state any more money!

You do know that after you leave the license is void and no longer available to you, right?
