Stratomaster18 Posted November 14, 2013 at 02:41 AM Share Posted November 14, 2013 at 02:41 AM Hey guys so I'm looking into trying out Rinks in Lockport but can't find hardly anything on it online as they don't have a website. I'm wondering what your guys experience is with them. How much is it? What calibers do they allow? Are rimfire rifles allowed? Time limit? Ammo price? Rental prices? Etc.The range that i frequent is Midwest guns in Lyons and that is the only indoor range I've been to and what I would be comparing Rinks to. Both are about an equal distance from me. Thanks for your help!
Booxone Posted November 14, 2013 at 02:48 AM Share Posted November 14, 2013 at 02:48 AM Was just there over weekend. $10 is cost. It's a small dinky range that is loud and smokey. Not sure about rental prices as I shoot my own. Ammo price is normal, they don't gouge you. I don't think there is a time limit. They are not currently allowing 50ae, 454 cassul, 500s&w. I believe you can shoot 22lr if desired. It's good because of price. Midwest and megasports have nicer, more modern ranges but cost more to put holes in paper
itscold Posted November 14, 2013 at 03:18 AM Share Posted November 14, 2013 at 03:18 AM There is no time limit and only pistol calibers, with the exception of those mentioned above, are allowed, even if you're shooting a rifle. They have repainted it and upgraded the exhaust system, so it's a lot better than it was. I try to get there at least once per week. Good to know about the exhaust. I'll try them again, last time I was there it was real hot and real smokey.
Hatchet Posted November 14, 2013 at 01:56 PM Share Posted November 14, 2013 at 01:56 PM I believe rentals are 10 bucks.
Xwing Posted November 14, 2013 at 02:55 PM Share Posted November 14, 2013 at 02:55 PM They have the best price in the Chicagoland area! Small range, so there is sometimes a wait during peak times. They allow most handgun calibers. I think anything < 50 is allowed.
Stratomaster18 Posted November 14, 2013 at 04:08 PM Author Share Posted November 14, 2013 at 04:08 PM Good to know. I usually shoot my own, but its always fun to try something new. Does anyone know what times they are open to off the top of their head?

Stratomaster18 Posted November 14, 2013 at 08:38 PM Author Share Posted November 14, 2013 at 08:38 PM What about bringing guests to the range who don't have a foid card?
wendallman Posted November 14, 2013 at 08:58 PM Share Posted November 14, 2013 at 08:58 PM Have to share a lane if you have someone without a FOID. Same with out of state residents. They have to be accompanied by a FOID holder, which I don't really care too much for. The range closes at 8:30. The store is open until 9pm during the week. It is many times better than it was before. Still not top notch, but the price is hard to beat. It is only a handful of miles from my house which is nice too. Midwest requires you to have the target a certain distance which I also don't care for. In a real life situation, I probably wouldn't be firing at that distance. I don't think Rinks cares where your target is at. They have a little deer hunting section too. Real little. Don't drink the juice in that section, it tastes like deer pee. karim18 Posted November 15, 2013 at 02:48 PM Share Posted November 15, 2013 at 02:48 PM Went to Rinks last Monday (Was at Richs Yamaha getting my bike serviced and had time to burn), my thoughts: target holders, etc.. still dated, but overall a HUGE improvement. Air quality is substantially better and the new lighting provides a lot more visibility.
wendallman Posted November 15, 2013 at 02:50 PM Share Posted November 15, 2013 at 02:50 PM Yeah, the target holders are the same as they were I think. They did seem to take some of the slack out of the lines at least. On some of the lanes your target was so low you were shooting at a downward angle. A B27 would have swept the firing line for you on it's way in/out.
mostholycerebus Posted November 15, 2013 at 03:18 PM Share Posted November 15, 2013 at 03:18 PM Heh, I actually liked the bad lighting and targets waving all over in the slight breeze. Made things more like a real-world shoot. Set it at 5 yards and practice your draw, etc.
Awan Posted November 15, 2013 at 11:47 PM Share Posted November 15, 2013 at 11:47 PM I stopped by today to check out the place. It is small, loud, and friendly folks. I re-confirmed all the info that was stated in this thread and will be coming back with my out of state bro in-law to do some shooting.
IH8IL Posted November 16, 2013 at 12:31 AM Share Posted November 16, 2013 at 12:31 AM Anyone that has gone there, what are their 5.56 ammo prices.
BIGDEESUL Posted November 16, 2013 at 03:44 PM Share Posted November 16, 2013 at 03:44 PM Way more than you'd want to pay unless you had to. Their ammo prices are a little on the high side. But they do have stuff that's hard to find sometimes. If you're near Rink's, the Lockport Walmart on 159th and Farrell rd. has the best ammo case in the area. Depending on where you're coming from the Crestwood and Bridgeview Walmarts both had federal 62gr 150rd cases for $70. And Bridgeview had tula, ppu, and a few others in .223 pretty cheap. Tula was $.26/rd Sent from my Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk
IH8IL Posted November 16, 2013 at 07:34 PM Share Posted November 16, 2013 at 07:34 PM Yeah I go to the walmart on ferrel rd but they never have those 150 rd cases, which is what I want.
MGF Posted November 16, 2013 at 08:33 PM Share Posted November 16, 2013 at 08:33 PM I've never priced 5.56s or guns at Rinks; their other prices seemed quite normal -- even reasonable -- for the times, last time I was up that way.I get my 5.56s in bulk and get a pretty good deal from a local FFL holder. My Colt has a 1:7 twist rate and really prefers the 62gs to the 55s.
Stratomaster18 Posted November 16, 2013 at 10:46 PM Author Share Posted November 16, 2013 at 10:46 PM Thanks guys for all of the help/info. Do they allow rifles if it's a .22? I'm thinking of getting a 10/22 and am looking for a place to shoot it. On that note, does Midwest allow .22 rifles?
wendallman Posted November 16, 2013 at 10:53 PM Share Posted November 16, 2013 at 10:53 PM I know rinks allows rifles that shoot a handgun caliber including .22lr. I have shot some .22 and 9mm rifles there. I'd imagine midwest does too but I am not positive.
Stratomaster18 Posted November 17, 2013 at 01:07 AM Author Share Posted November 17, 2013 at 01:07 AM Awesome! Thanks. Time to move that ruger to the "to be purchased" list from the "want" list.
Mr_Rich Posted November 17, 2013 at 05:06 PM Share Posted November 17, 2013 at 05:06 PM I shot at Rinks yesterday for the first time since they upgraded the range. I was impressed with the lighting, I used to bring a flashlight as it was so dark. The ventilation also seems to have improved. They generally have decent prices on firearms, the ammo is a bit high. BIGDEESUL Posted November 20, 2013 at 01:48 AM Share Posted November 20, 2013 at 01:48 AM Shot there Sunday for the first time in months. I couldn't believe how bright it was. And the ventilation is waaaaay better. The hand cranks are still crappy though. Sent from my Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk
Stratomaster18 Posted November 20, 2013 at 05:15 AM Author Share Posted November 20, 2013 at 05:15 AM Thanks guys for all of the info. I shot there yesterday and enjoyed my time. Staff was friendly, it was VERY bright, the cables had enough tension (I can't imagine what it was like before), it was very cold though so I just kept my jacket on. Plus you can't beat the $10 fee. I'll definitely be coming back.

Good idea Thiokol, shooting at Rinks then coffee and pie at Georges? Rich
