Never thought that a foid appeal would take longer then a year smfh.....i dont understand how hard it is to look at the appeal see there was no conviction and reinstate my foid card.....the wait time sucks and its sad that there is nothing that can be done to get an answer....except the obvious answer of its still in the appeals process there is no time frame on when its going to be looked at what kind of **** is that, seriously thinking about calling them and telling them to cancel the appeal i dont even want the foid/ccl back if its taking over a year god only knows how long its going to take

I have a question for everyone.

What is the longest amount of time that the ISP has kept a FOID card appeal in limbo? Do they finally give in after 2 years, 3 years? Really, how can they justify never taking action on an appeal?

Ash, you should call your state rep and state senators offices and get them involved. Also call the governors office.

A few years ago my app was in but I had not received my new card before expiration of the old one. I called my state rep and a rep of a neighboring district that I knew was pro gun, and I called the governors office. I called them all every day. I called the ISP and was told just to keep my guns locked up and unloaded and don't use them or transport them or anything. I told them that was UNNACCEPTABLE. After they started hearing from reps and the governors office, they suddenly found time to process my app!

Well everyone in a couple days my FOID appeal will have been filed 18 months ago.

So a question. What is involved in the appeal process on the ISP side? Let me explain what I am asking.

Mr ISP employee grabs a FOID appeal packet from the stack. What does he do with it? I would think he runs a criminal background check on the person. Does he call the people that wrote the letters of reference? Does he make sure you have completed any sentence you may have been given? Does he check the validity of the information you sent in? What else?

From the IL codes it would appear that four items are listed that you must satisfy for a FOID appeal to be successful. Why does this take so long? Seems this is very cut and dry. How many actual ISP employees are actually involved in looking at your appeal?

I know what I sent in. I do not understand why looking at the information, checking it and making a determination based on written law takes so long.

Have you called your state rep, state senator, and governors office? Keep calling and complaining to them! Your file is buried in the stack and long forgotten. Waiting patiently obviously isn't working for you.

After a few calls from the governors office, state reps etc to ISP, someone at the isp-fab will almost magically locate your buried file, look at it, and approve it if everything is in order.

I have spoken with my State Rep. He has spoken with the Governor's office and the ISP multiple times. He said the ISP blew him off. I have spoken with the Governor's office. I sent a letter to the Governor's office. I sent a letter to the ISP. I paid a local attorney to check into this. The attorney wrote a letter and has made multiple phone calls to the ISP. No response to the attorney. Molly has spoken to the ISP and the Governor's office back in early July. I am told my appeal was brought to the attention of both.

Seven months for me on the appeal it's terrible that we all have to go through this it doesn't have to be this way they could fix the problems if they wanted to but they won't. I just believe the don't want gun owners they simply don't care if they did they would of had this fixed.

I got my foid renewal letter today, and just completed the online renewal process. Just posting to start the clock ticking.

Luckily there was a convenience fee of only 1 dollar that saved me from just paying with cash.

How...convenient...

How does the state manage to put a price on convenience...yet they manage to do so. ;-)

These wait times are ridiculous we must do something, anything to make our wait time shorter. ISP is doing this on purpose I could literly do several in one day it does not take this long for a appeal. This really ticks me off but I'm sure it's what the ISP wants.

We need Rauner reelected. The board has made progress. But if Pritzker is elected and gets to appoint a new board in January, who knows what will happen.

I still want to know more about behind the scenes to process a FOID appeal.

How many people are working on appeals?

How many man hours per week are spent working on appeals?

What EXACTLY happens when an appeal packet is picked up off the pile?

How many man hours does it take to process an appeal?

What is the name of the person that has the final say either yes or no to a FOID appeal?

This is not national security. Taxpayer funds are being used. The ISP is a taxpayer funded organization. Taxpayers, you and I, have a right to know how our money is being spent.

Nearly 20 months in the appeal process and over 2 years since I first applied for my FOID but I am active now on the ISP website.

I lack the vocabulary to express how happy I am. Over 25 years have gone by since I last had a FOID card.

Congrats. I'm at about 13-14 months and hoping I don't reach the 20 month mark. Is there anything you did to speed up the process other than reaching out to Molly B? Please message me if you think you could help. Thank you.

I am appealing my FOID denial also.....tried going the court route first. Looks like my case is getting thrown out for the time being. My lawyer called today and said we have to ask for relief from the Director of the ISP first...then go to court. SA filed a motion to dismiss the case due to us not doing that 735 ILCS 5/2-619(A)(1). But my lawyer also said that the appeals he has in through the ISP are currently almost a year with no action. He has 13 in there now with no action from the ISP yet....He is thinking about filing a class action lawsuit so they start to act on these. Unfortunately there is no time limit for them to do so. I hope the NRA and ILSRA act on this too. Pretty sure I'll be denied again, then we can go ahead to court. Just some info on those who want to go to court...you MUST appeal the ISP first BEFORE you go to court. My lawyer is drawing up my appeal as we speak...Not holding my breath as I hear this could take FOREVER!!

Many Illinois gun owners and pro 2A supporters seem quite ambivalent or have given up these days. With 2.2M+ FOIDs and 320K+ CCLs it seems we should have greater influence getting back to the days when ILGA members were calling Todd begging him to make us stop contacting them.
