  1. Read this and immediately installed Turbo Scan on my LG Android. What a savings in time and effort this will be. Was scanning documents in using an all-in-one printer. This is much faster. Will save me a ton of time at the beginning of class getting all those documents saved for verification. Great tip. Thanks! It's a $.99 purchase, guys. No brainer. Another suggestion. The Topaz signature pad, available here. Will be my next equipment purchase so I can get the class certificates signed by me and student while still in digital form. Otherwise we have to print it, sign it, and then scan it back into digital form to upload to ISP. $99.99.
  2. Just put me firmly in my place, didn't you? Sorry to have an opinion. Sorry for my total and complete ignorance about all phases of Illinois government and politics. Obviously I have no right to respond to anything until I am in complete command of every, single salient fact. I obviously should read all the Illinois statutes as well as all applicable operational manuals and employee handbooks before I open my mouth again. My colossal ignorance totally invalidates my opinion that employees who routinely break the very laws they are in charge of overseeing should be penalized for their malfeasance, doesn't it? Sorry I mentioned it. Am I still allowed to lurk if I promise to keep my mouth shut?
  3. The problem is the law doesnt include a penalty for them if they dont do it within 30 days.. its not like a class a that has a penalty attached to it there is NO penalty for them to be late on issuing foid cards. Was advocating adding a penalty, sorry if I was not clear. Though it is confusing, having a law on the books, the breaking of which is penalized by ...nothing. Want more laws on the books like that! Actually, was advocating voiding the FOID law. Quick as we can. And be as noisy as possible about law breaking troopers who will not issue FOIDs in a timely fashion.
  4. Every Law Enforcement Agency I am familiar with has loss of employment as a consequence of conviction of a felony or many misdemeanors. The law states 30 days does it not? Failure to comply is breaking the law, is it not? Make it a Class A Misdemeanor or whatever it takes to trigger termination. Why is that hard? Why is assuming a LEO will abide by the laws he is supposed to enforce a reach?
  5. Who appointed the ISP Commander? Could it have been our lovely Governor - who has promised to veto any law that grants greater exercise of our 2nd Amendment rights? FOID apps are, by statute, to get an up or down response within 30 days. I don't believe the cashing of the check to start the timer is in the statute. Just one more method to drag their feet on the process. How come a cop in a squad can get a wants and warrants check in seconds from the same d**n system that the ISP can't do a FOID check on in 30 days? FOID is a farce. It is de facto gun control. When I applied for my FOID, called on the 31st day (after the check cleared, since it is a fuzzy area), and got the runaround Called my state rep. Her assistant told me her office had no pull with State Police. My response was, "Are you kidding me! You write their budget." She promised to call them and call me back. Ten minutes later, she calls me back. She stated she had called the clerk in charge who told her , "Can you believe it? It just so happens that I'm staring at his application at this very moment!" Had my card 2 days later. Learned this from a small FFL dealer. Have shared it with anyone I know who applies for a card. So far - has worked every time. They are blatantly, willfully, and serially violating Illinois law at the behest of Government at the highest levels. And they do not want the cold light of day glaring into the shadows where the deals are cut. Attention of the general assembly or federal law enforcement is something they are eager to avoid. I don't get to choose which laws I obey do I? (Well, not till lately. When the cost - benefit equation began to change.) "Officer, I know I need a valid registration, or insurance, or safety equipment to drive on the roadway in the state of Illinois, but due to understaffing I won't have any of that stuff for 90 days. You can certainly appreciate that, right?"
