Buzzard Posted January 3, 2017 at 07:15 PM Share Posted January 3, 2017 at 07:15 PM Anyone bought one of these? I finally got a spotting scope for Christmas - I've been wanting / needing one my whole life. It's just an entry level piece purchased at Menards, but that's really all I need. I'm more curious than anything else. How can such a cheap piece deliver such power? I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for", which is why I'm so leery. https://weeklytechblog.com/sales-page-8779538 https://zerotactical.com/order-form9233566
DD123 Posted January 3, 2017 at 07:49 PM Share Posted January 3, 2017 at 07:49 PM I have one of the Menard's spotting scopes that you mentioned. It's good out to about 100 yards. At 200 I can barely see 30 cal holes, and at 600 yard it's useless. Spotting scopes are like rifle scopes and camera lenses, what your'e paying for is an extremely expensive process where they're finely polishing the lenses, using high grade glass, and adding expensive coatings. You just can't get around those processes and get something cheap. The only spotting scopes I've tried myself are the Vortex Viper and the Razor. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either of those. If I'm shooting at 200 yards or further, I typically bring my 308 with me and use the Vortex Viper 6-24X50 scope I have mounted on that to spot with lol. At least with that I can see 22 cal holes out at 200 yards. There was another company claiming to make great glass at half of what Vortex charges, but knowing the processes that high quality lenses must go through, even if made in China, you just can't get around it. There's too much effort involved in producing quality glass.

If it really works like they demonstrate, I definitely want one. But, I'll have to do some more research to be sure this is "real". Seems too good to be true.
