Tango7 Posted June 28, 2019 at 11:35 AM Share Posted June 28, 2019 at 11:35 AM Was listening to the NBC5 news program this morning, and they were discussing the generic topic of "gun violence" with a CPD rep and a community policing spokesperson. After talking about the value of gun buybacks, the host mentioned that while the public was used to hearing about people carrying guns being criminals, there had recently been a case where an intended victim had defended himself against a carjacker. She actually asked if CCW was an option for people to consider, and to his credit, the CPD officer stated that it was, if people had options for safe storage and training. A refreshing change after the years of Daley and Streetlights insisting all guns - and their owners - were bad

Windermere Posted June 28, 2019 at 01:02 PM Share Posted June 28, 2019 at 01:02 PM So how come special ed always says “there’s just too many guns on the streets, and too many people willing to use them”? Sounds like a typical gun grabbing statement to me. Blame the gun and not the gangs/drugs/thugs problems
BobPistol Posted June 28, 2019 at 01:22 PM Share Posted June 28, 2019 at 01:22 PM . Blame the gun and not the gangs/drugs/thugs problems Well, you can't blame the gangs or thugs, they are cronies of the politicians. And you can't blame drugs because a high populace is an easy to control populace.
Bubbacs Posted June 28, 2019 at 01:59 PM Share Posted June 28, 2019 at 01:59 PM The Guns and Firearms have no gender, race, etc. If in making what we consider to be a proper waving of the finger at the above listed groups........we would well not us but the Media and the CPD chiefs, would be pointing fingers at people of color, all shades and NOT be talking about in large part about the white segment of society. And since we don't point out these differences in Chicago, read any article or listen to any report on the radio, and it's 2 men wearing jeans with red caps.2 girls and 1 guy running south on blah blah blah st. Can't be bothered with a specific description based on what race, ethnicity someone is.
Raw Power Posted June 28, 2019 at 02:16 PM Share Posted June 28, 2019 at 02:16 PM This is a good about-face from CPD. I'm glad they're finally getting on board with legal CCL, instead of threatening to shoot CCL holders, like Gary McCarthy did.

vito Posted July 2, 2019 at 02:00 PM Share Posted July 2, 2019 at 02:00 PM Just this morning in today's Chicago Tribune (7/2/19) is an article on crime in Chicago and the head of the CPD is quoted as saying that shootings happen because someone decided to carry a gun with him that day. That if the gun was left home the shooting would not happen. I guess some guns just get itchy in your pocket and make you want to shoot people. Of course he doesn't say that maybe some parts of his city are so dangerous that it makes sense to be prepared to defend yourself if needed. Nothing has really changed over the years regarding the attitude of the powers that be in this state, and especially in the city of Chicago regarding guns and law abiding citizens. Johnson did say one thing that made sense, and that was if someone is arrested for a crime and used a gun, the bond requirements and punishments need to be tougher than they currently are. Right now the shooters being arrested are without a doubt back on the streets a lot quicker than those that were shot.
