Jeckler Posted December 1, 2015 at 06:35 PM Share Posted December 1, 2015 at 06:35 PM Think I might have asked before, but just in case.... Can these 3 hours be counted towards the necessary 16? Wife would definitely participate if it were 4 hours and counted towards the required training.
cherryriver Posted December 1, 2015 at 07:02 PM Author Share Posted December 1, 2015 at 07:02 PM Jeckler-Yes and sort of no. The class is three hours, and we issue our certificate of completion that includes what's in the class- all elements relevant to the IL CCL training. Each CCL instructor can decide what prior training (beyond the ones in the ISP listing such as NRA BP) is relevant and he or she will accept as prior training. The CCL group at GAT Guns, of course, understands that these classes are highly relevant and they accept them towards the possible 8 grandfathered hours.Naturally, so do we. So does nearly every instructor we're familiar with. But it's up to the instructor signing off to determine.Yes, we designed most all of our classes prior to the FCCA becoming law, and so the regular basic and secondary ones are three hours. Why? Partly because that's the practical time limit for most people on weeknight evenings, 6-9pm or 6:30-9:30pm, and partly because our early test classes told us that going longer didn't provide a similar amount of benefit. We did increase the Handgun & Holster Skills Intermediate Class to four hours, mostly to make sure we get in enough reps of the crucial skills of the draw and re-holster.The tied-together string of Intro-Phase II-Phase III makes nine hours and includes a lot more stuff- especially shooting and serious fundamentals- than practically any other nine hours a newer shooter could find.
