Clay County judge rules Gov. Pritzker did not have authority to extend stay-at-home order

Ok, so the judge rules against Pritzer/State.

Are there any other consequences besides a gavel bang?

Normally, wouldn't there be some sort of punitive judgement, one of the results being that political leaders will think before just acting as they please, again?

"Oh, hey, what you guys did was wrong last spring and now we got a judge to say so, so there..."

So this crackpot judge just possibly signed the death warrants of thousands of people

Thats wonderful !

Are you willing to pay thousands of other people to stay home and not work? Are you willing to give them free health insurance? The people voted, theyre not. So enough of the bloody shirt waving, were long overdue to go back to work.

Crackpot is authoritarian governors and mayors taking away peoples ability to support themselves and not expecting to get their city looted and burned.

If they keep doing it theyre gonna sign a lot more death warrants when the hungry masses are outside your door.

The judge who ruled Thursday is the same judge who granted Rep. Bailey a temporary restraining order applying only to himself, exempting him from Pritzker's stay-at-home order.

I hope that red ink is actually purple. Because rule of law and constitutional principles should take precedence over the perceive threat of COVID deaths. I believe our form of government is worthy of the trade-off.

Stay at home orders and mask mandates to healthy people are an attack on our rule of law. Even our health and safety laws have legal process and procedure. How many people or businesses have an actual quarantine order issued lawfully by a local county health department as required by law? How many of these orders have been affirmed by a local judge at the proscribed hearing ? In Illinois I believe that answer is a big ZERO!

Any orders enforced in the absence of such are unconstitutional.

Just because people may die that otherwise may not have, does not legally justify suspension of the rule of law. Acting in that manor is the road to anarchy and tyranny.

No, actually it returns control back to the local health departments which should have been in control in the first place.

What is perceived about over 7000 deaths ? It would have been 5 or 10 times more if the state wasnt shut down

its already been proven in several other states that going back to work isnt the answer

Do you or anyone else have some super power to know who has the virus and who doesnt ?

no I didnt think so

so then everybody gets to stay home

this BS about some people may die isnt reason enough to justify the shut down is your perspective at least till a relative or friend of yours dies

Explain this:

Illinois shut down earlier than any of the surrounding states.

Illinois shut down tighter than any of the surrounding states.

Illinois stayed shut down longer than any of the surrounding states.

Yet ALL of the surrounding states ADDED TOGETHER have less than three-quarters the cases of Illinois alone!

This case IS NOT about Covid, it IS NOT about whether folks might die or not. This case IS about the Rule of Law. This case is about whether a Governor is above the law and exempt from the law.

Pritzker could have accomplished everything he wanted WITHIN the framework of the law - he chose not to, he chose to operate outside of the law - and heâs being called out on it. This case IS NOT about the reason for the shutdown, it IS about the legality of the method of the shutdown.

The Ends Do Not Justify the Means.

Stop pretending it does.

I wont be. Same with young healthy bartenders, chefs, hair stylists, etc wont be. The only people who will be dead (mostly) will be old people, fat people, and other unhealthy people. If you fall into those categories stay home. If you dont think thats enough than vote for policy makers or pay up so other people can stay home without starving or suffering other poverty related deaths.

It seems like most of the stay home bloody shirt waiving crowd is those over 65 enjoying all the government Ponzi safety nets like Social Security and Medicare. Usually the higher the risk the less of a GDP producer they are. Higher social services net drag. So they better come up with a better solution than saying stay at home or youll kill people. Cuz when it comes to your life vs my life guess which one Im gonna pick.

It’s not only my perspective, it is the law as it currently is. I would consider those not feeling Ill or showing symptoms as healthy. Just as I presume innocence until I prove guilt. If I have evidence you might be ill that evidence is up to the health department to act in accordance with the public health laws as the are not how you wish them to be.

Blanket orders lumping all into the sick category without regard to civil rights or due process is, well, warped.

Actually you should not be wearing an N95 per public health directives. Those should be reserved for medical personnel or people who actually need them for respiratory protection from dusts and mists, for which they are intended. An N95 IS NOT designed for virus protection. You will need a level A suit and SCBA for that. Warped - strong username to post content though...

I dont know where you got that wrong opinion but thats all it is a wrong opinion !
I worked in class 3 labs for more than 23 years all kinds hiv,tb,hep b.c all types
if I was still working I would no doubt have been in a covid 19 lab in the last week or so
class 3 lab = live virus
the first thing that you do is put on a N95 mask before the tyvek suit or anything else
and I also used scba gear during emergencies
a N95 mask works very well in or out of a lab for viruses
and contrary to other myths a N95 mask protects the wearer

This reads like me me me, I deserve, therefore you should do. While my job has always been work from home a lot of people my age have gotten let go from their job. They entered the job market during the last recession, or lost what little they had so they never achieved financial stability. The generation that sold out America for their comfortable living wants younger generations to starve to death or suffer other poverty related perils. https://fee.org/articles/a-years-worth-of-suicide-attempts-in-four-weeks-the-unintended-consequences-of-covid-19-lockdowns/

You provide no solutions, suggestions, or changes, just judgment. Youre going to have to provide a better argument than an appeal to emotions fallacy.

Not necessarily. According to the "experts", I have 3 of the "co-morbidities" - age, weight, and blood pressure. Since early May, I have been forced to wear a mask just 4 times. Before that - ZERO. And those 4 were because of having to take an elderly relative to the ER, three weeks later and again 2 weeks after that, to their GP for a follow-up visit after the hospital stay. Then, last week, I had to go to the doctor myself for muscle/joint pain.

That relative was in the hospital because they had the flu and a UTI. And yet, they had gotten the flu shot last fall and STILL got the flu. Despite being around this relative at least two days a week, doing all the grocery shopping (etc.), all W/O a mask, I have not show any signs of illness of any kind. And I have never had a flu shot nor have I ever had the flu.

Now the ChiComs announce they have found another swine flu similar to the H1N1 flu of 2009. Apparently, this corona virus failed to achieve their goals so now they find another virus to cause yet another pandemic. This is like "1 - 2 punch". If they can keep us "locked down" long enough, their cohorts in crime (the "Commucrats") will be able to ruin the economy forever, take power this fall, and reduce this country to one big "gulag".

Kimd of draconian.

Guilty until proven innocent, by a test that is not 100% accurate so if you test false you could still test positive later, so your infected and guilty all in one.

Thats like saying someone could become a mass shooter down the road at some point so no one can have ANY type of firearm, regardless of what the 2nd amendment says in the name of PUBLIC SAFTEY so in the name of public safety GIVE UP YOUR FIREARMS.

what did we do during polio, hiv, swine flu, bird flu, etc flu....?

7000 which most had other health conditions in a population of 12.7 million is less than one tenth of one percent. What a pandemic. You probably watch CNN. Do you wear a mask in the car too?

At 71 I AM a certified geezer, I have comorbidities, and I am a verifiably, skilled practicing curmudgeon.

Whenever I take the time ( as if I have something better to do - lol) to read these sort of medically related threads, I come away with a feeling of sadness in my soul realizing that so many internet posters are so skilled at complex Doctorate Level epidemiology (and that's a hard word to spell) that they freely go out of their way to share that expertise with the uneducated masses.... yet they appear to have never attended Grammar School to be taught that there ARE important differences in words that sound the same but must be spelled differently lest one wishes to come across as an uneducated dullard.

E.G. (exempli gratia) : There - Their - They're all sound the same but have different meanings involving the concepts of Destination, Possession, and Action and Your - You're again sound the same but are meant to convey One's Possessions or One's Action and Two - To - Too denoting a Number or Continuation of Direction or the concept of Also and of course the less confused Our - Hour which are meant to imply Group Ownership or Time of Day.

And if I am subjected to spending my totally non-valuable time reading the above referenced posts, as total strangers are now doing to mine, I simply request that 'some' folks employ the few seconds it will take to Google the above referenced homonyms and self-educate as to their appropriate use.... There ya' go, I hope they're then happy with their investigations. Ain't the English language a goodly fun thang?
