Woman kidnapped at knifepoint in Moline; pulls gun on suspect

MOLINE, ILL. (KWQC) - Police have arrested a man accused of forcing his way into a woman's car and making her drive to rural Rock Island County at knifepoint.

On Oct. 8th, 2017, police were called to a hospital in Silvis, Ill. where the woman was being treated for an injury related to the incident. She told police that she was in her vehicle in the 4500 block of 27th St., which is behind SouthPark Mall, when the man forced his way into the car with a knife. She said the two struggled and she received a cut to her arm.

The suspect then made her drive him to a location in the county. When they stopped, she was able to reach her firearm and the man fled on foot while she drove herself to the hospital for treatment of the injury on her arm.

Police investigated and charged 61-year-old Floyd May of Moline with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery with a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and aggravated assault. He's being held in the Rock Island County Jail.

Police also note that the victim had a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon.

Great story. Chalk up another one for a IL CCL holder.

I'm glad she's okay. I'm not so glad he's okay.

He should be in the rock island county morgue

From the comments, it looks like the victim was from Missouri, visiting relatives in the area. I am so glad that non-residents can carry in their car in Illinois with a valid permit from their home state. But at the same time, I'm very frustrated that most non-residents cannot even apply for a CCL to carry outside their car.

That'd be ideal. I can only imagine what he intended to do to her. Typically a kidnapper will rape or murder their victim...or both.

Never EVER let someone take you to anther location. The time to fight for your life is at the point of the abduction/kidnapping. 99% of kidnapping victims who are taken to another location end up dead. This woman is very lucky. Although, I shouldn't say luck. She did prepare by arming herself.

Morgue would have been a fine ending, but she did a great job, survived, and he got caught, so that's alright too.

I looked up this guy's local court records. There were a couple felonies, including Armed Robbery with a Firearm in 2010. He was found guilty but mentally ill, and sentenced to 9 years. It looks like he was just released on July 28th.

He's a real piece of work. For his arraignment, he refused to leave his cell, and told the judge he will not physically appear in court at any time.

I really hope they remove him from society for a very long time.

Wait, I thought that good guys with guns don't ever drive off bad guys, and that a woman with a firearm is going to have it used against her by the criminal who would take it away from her.

I think this is fake news.

I'm assuming that when they say "unlawful use of a weapon by a felon" they're referring to AUUW which is only going to get this guy a 3 year sentence which he'll serve concurrently with the other sentences.

Doesn't seem like much...

Why isn't this on the national news?  A woman saved herself from rape or worse by using her legally owned firearm against a violent career criminal.  But of course the MSM will ignore any story which goes against the false "guns are evil" narrative they promote...

Yeah right. Next you'll tell me that firearms are good at preventing rape. I always thought of guns so poorly!

What do you even do with a guy like this? He's obviously unwilling or unable to follow the rules of society...and leaving a wake of serious harm. Although this woman emerged physically unharmed, I'm sure a traumatic event like this never leaves you. I hope to God he isn't let out to do something like this again. Punishment doesn't seem to be a deterrent to him. Next time he may harm his victim as a pre-emptive strike thinking it's possible they're armed.

Here's an update with an interview with the victim. You've really got to admire this woman.

http://wqad.com/2017...e-or-ill-shoot/

MOLINE- A pistol-packing grandmother says she kept her cool and waited for the right moment to pull her gun on a kidnapper with a knife.

"The grace of God is what saved me, and the sense to have calm, and have my weapon, " said Diane McIntire, of Missouri.

McIntire says she pulled up in the parking lot of Southpark Mall in Moline last Sunday to buy vitamins, when a man who appeared to be waiting for a bus, suddenly appeared with a knife at the driver's side door.

"It was a large butcher knife, I did not even see it at first, that's how quickly he was in my space. I kicked him in his chest, pushed him back, I felt the knife cut right below my elbow," said McIntire, a former Quad Citian who was visiting family over the weekend.

McIntire would need 24 stitches to close the wound.

She says the man, identified by police as 61-year-old Floyd May, forced her to drive her truck down Old Route 2, and during the 20 minute trip, threw her cellphone out the car window.

She said at one point he grabbed an old shirt from the back of her truck, and tied it around her bleeding arm.

"He apologized for the cut in my arm," she said.

"He also said I know you can identify me. I know it's kidnapping."

What he didn't know, is that she had a concealed carry permit. And, a Glock 380 handgun in the console of her truck.

When May told her to pull into a gravel lot in rural Port Byron, she knew she had to make her move.

"I knew I would live or die right there. He did tell me in the drive, if the police come up behind us, that we were both going to die that day," she said.

So, when May became distracted, she went for it.

"He got out of the truck and the butcher knife fell onto the ground and he got out to pick up the knife, I opened the console and grabbed my pistol. I went ahead and got out of the truck. I had the gun at his chest, and I told him do not come near me," she recalled.

"I said, if you come near, me, I'm going to shoot you."

She says May retreated to a house, and she took off in her truck. She drove herself to a hospital, and called police.

"I didn't want to take a human life, if I didn't have to. If he took one more step toward me, my finger was already squeezing the trigger, and yes, I would have shot him. There's no doubt in my mind," she said.

McIntire said she remained calm during the drive, and kept the conversation going, as scary as it was.

"He said he had just "got out", I believe it was a mental institution, and he'd been living under a bridge for the past two weeks. And, he told me he did prison time and stabbed a man in prison," she said.

May is in the Rock Island County Jail on $555,000 bond. He's charged with several felonies, including aggravated kidnapping and aggravated battery.

McIntire, is a wife, mother of 3, and grandmother of 11. She has had a conceal carry permit for about 3 years.

"I have a family, I have a life. I want to live. I have grandchildren. My thought at that point, was to live to see another day,"she said.

When the switchblade legalization bill was introduced on the House Floor, Representative Kathleen Willis said:

"Why would we want people to have switchblades?

There's a big difference between a pocket knife and a switchblade.  What purpose does a switchblade have other than to be used as a weapon?  I think we have enough weapons out in the world right now that we do not need to make it easier, I don't think this is a path we want to go down."

I said at the time that the street thugs aren't going to buy a 100+ dollar high-quality switchblade to commit their crimes when they can just grab a knife from the kitchen or sharpen a screw driver.  The meaningless posturing and the level of stupidity of Kathleen Willis is astounding.  But more astounding is that voters actually elected someone as oblivious as Kathleen Willis.  But she's not only dumb, she's arrogant and absolutely convinced that she knows best.

Arrogant an stupid are such a dangerous combination.

This conversation about Willis reminds me a youtube video I was watching the other day about the worlds largest diesel engines.   Somebody in the comments had written that they had heard there was now a diesel engine that would run on compressed petrified chicken manure.  Somebody replied "Awesome, now we have a practical use for our politicians"  Somebody else replied "everybody knows you have to bury on bureaucrats to see if it improves the soil"  The last reply was " Sorry dude, burying toxic waste requires a permit"

I thought it was funny.

It was a good thing the perp dropped his knife giving her a chance to pull her gun out of the console.  Something else she could have done is drive off the road and hit a tree or something else.   Tim Lovell on one of his videos suggested this, using the vehicle as a weapon.

Gee, no surprise.  The guy was in a mental institution and was released.  Living under a bridge for a few weeks.

So when the LWW's cut the mental health budget so they can enrich cronies, they let lunatics like this out and crime goes up.   More proof that LWW's are pro-thug.

What's the Rock Island County SA's reputation for this kind of thing? I'm not too far away (as you know) and the SA here let some guy with felon in possession, possession of stolen, defaced serial, I think like 9 felonies in total, plead down to a single misdemeanor. He goes to prison anyway for a probation violation (not long enough) but...good God.

They've been kind of hit or miss over the years. They currently are dealing with another prisoner who battered a police officer severely, but has been found unfit to stand trial. It will be interesting to see what they do in that case, too.

Considering the publicity that surrounds this case, and the fact that this was Aggravated Kidnapping (a Class X felony), I am hoping they put him away for the rest of his life. He has already PO'd the judge by refusing to come out of his jail cell for arraignment. He does have a strong history of mental illness, but on his last offense he plead Guilty but Mentally Ill to armed robbery. I am positive this guy knew what he was doing was wrong. That is kind of the deciding factor.

The victim's niece was in my IL CCL class this weekend. She showed me some more photos of her wounds, and told me a few things that weren't in the news reports. I think the big thing is that he threatened to kill her several times during her ordeal. The impact on the victim's life will hopefully play a part in the SA's approach to this case.

Publicity and public outrage always play a role in how aggressive the scumbag is prosecuted. Think he was out on parole as well so they'll violate him for that, but the RI SA needs to throw everything at this scumbag. I'm sure a jury of 12 would be happy to convict. I hope the judge and jury don't fall for the "poor little old me, the mentally ill guy" crap.
