gangrel Posted February 12, 2016 at 12:22 AM Share Posted February 12, 2016 at 12:22 AM Interesting, but moot point now that Wisconsin has legalized switchblades.
BIGDEESUL Posted February 12, 2016 at 02:39 AM Share Posted February 12, 2016 at 02:39 AM A good knife should be part of everyone's EDC. And it's very important to carry the knife on the opposite side of your gun position. If you can't get to one, you can get to the other. OldMarineVet Posted February 12, 2016 at 05:07 AM Share Posted February 12, 2016 at 05:07 AM FYI, I'm a member of an organization called Knife Rights. It's having success getting 2A legislation passed for knives. I believe Knife Rights helped with that "Wisconsin Switchblade with CCW." I wrote my State Rep and Senators "Illinois Switchblade with CCW" but it didn't progress. Also, I won a very nice KABAR knives in Knife Rights latest raffle. Here's Knife Rights website http://www.kniferights.org/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1 Here's an NRA interview of Knife Rights founder at 2016 Shot Show
transplant Posted February 12, 2016 at 07:14 AM Share Posted February 12, 2016 at 07:14 AM I'm a member of knife rights also. Thanks for sharing the article domin8. Perhaps this case will serve as additional authority (even if not controlling) in a future Illinois case.
Windermere Posted February 12, 2016 at 02:49 PM Share Posted February 12, 2016 at 02:49 PM I've carried a knife everyday for 6 years now. Should be part of everyone's edc. Aside from being another line of self defense, it serves sooooo many different purposes. Also got me into knife sharpening. Best advice is don't buy anything that is not made in USA. papa Posted February 12, 2016 at 06:43 PM Share Posted February 12, 2016 at 06:43 PM As I have posted in other threads , I have carried at least one knife since I was a very young boy. I now normally have 4 on my person when away from the house . Two on my right side , one on my left side and one that I can get to with either hand. For the most part I agree with your last sentence however there are two brands that I own , not made in USA , that I am very happy with. The first is Puma knives. The ones made in Germany are top quality and I own several of them but you have to be careful because a lot of them are made in other countries. The second knife manufacturer is Morakniv made in Sweden. I have the companion . It is fairly cheap in price but holds up well so far. http://www.moraofsweden.se/morakniv/companion-mg-50.0.201.2?group=prod_prod_grp-s1%2F41
tkroenlein Posted February 12, 2016 at 08:28 PM Share Posted February 12, 2016 at 08:28 PM Some of the best steel comes from outside of the US. Chinese steel is the one to avoid, IMO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

tkroenlein Posted February 16, 2016 at 05:11 AM Share Posted February 16, 2016 at 05:11 AM In a self defense situation I'd rather have a Chinese made knife than nothing................. . While this is true, a knife that won't get sharp or stay that way is a lot like a 4 1/2 lb carry gun-you won't have it with you when you need it. All kidding aside though, there are a couple decent Chinese steels out there, but they are hard come by because nobody puts "high quality Chinese blade" on their box. There are lots of affordable knives out there with decent blades. Some of them are steals. One need not compromise. I may not always carry when I'm in my truck, but there is always a KBAR in the driver's door bin. I may not always cc but there is always a utility knife on my belt. Always. Fists should not be your go to when it is life or death.
BradS Posted February 27, 2016 at 05:48 PM Share Posted February 27, 2016 at 05:48 PM Is this Benchmade knife legal in Illinois? http://www.benchmade.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/c/l/cla_1000x1000_2.jpg The Benchmade company calls it their CLA family. Do you have to start the blade moving with your finger/thumb or can you just push a button and it pops open? If you just push a button it isn't legal . I looked this knife up and it is an auto knife. Not legal in Illinois , yet.
gearsmithy Posted March 1, 2016 at 12:10 AM Share Posted March 1, 2016 at 12:10 AM Has there been any meaningful activity on the knife rights front lately? Some of our knife laws are more draconian than some gun laws. Plus most of these appear to have been passed by Victorian pearl clutchers afraid of a "rumble" happening in their neighborhood.
