2020 elections - who’s on first?

On the Dem side, I see Bernie and pile of folks who could be said to be positions themselves for VP role or front runners in 2024. I donât see a clear winner who can survive the primaries and win a general election.

Putting aside both sides of Trump mania, what emerging leaders do Dems have that can point the party in a somewhat sane direction?

Using both sides of TDS, will he get challenged in primaries? Who can put together a coalition of sane republicans to beat trump and win in the general election?

I think it will be a doozy of an election cycle with some long term impacts on gun rights, the economy, taxation and our spot in the world. Should be fun.

Have at it.

Go Pats!

Bernie's DOA, they've already killed his campaign before it even started.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the superdelegate reform and going more with the primary results.

It really seems like Elizabeth Warren is who the party gets behind, but there's always the wildcard of the billionaires. Schultz, Bloomberg, etc. They can easily come from behind because they have the name recognition and financing. The question is if they'll run on the DNC ticket or as independents.

Kamela seems like a big gov law and order centrist/"new Democrat" like Bill Clinton, this tends to sit well with the base. We all know Dems only play progressives on TV.

That’s what I was getting at. I think they are gonna be a hot mess. Unless a 2020 version of Bill Clinton (without the baggage) comes forward, I think they are going to implode.

Same could be said for Republicans if Trump folds on the wall/shutdown or fails to find a sane compromise. I think he needs to drag this shutdown through to the bitter end if he wants to have a chance at winning in 2020.

Yippy! A contest to see which of them can offer more "free" **** to the uneducated.

Only in their campaign speeches though, then the race will be to ship as much of your dollars outta the country by the cargoplane. Free US tax dollar paid education for Haitians, pallets of cash for ruthless dictators, government contracts fulfilled by foreign companies, taxpayer paid bailouts for global corporations, etc.

Trump barley won the last time. Really only because Hillary was so darn evil that nobody in the middle wanted to vote for her. And even then she still won the popular vote. Think about that.

More Americans wanted that anti American, evil, globalist scum to be president more than anyone else....

I would absolutely count on the American population doing that again. Most people beyond these walls are brainwashed by the leftist media machine. They are good little puppets just waiting to vote in whatever radical lefty that the Democrats put up. Just like what happened here in IL with JB. Heck even people here among us.....How many IL Carry members will sit here and post, claim to be pro gun but help elect the man that's gonna destroy gun rights and firearm ownership in the state of IL. All while taxing them to death. People are stupid and think with emotions and not their brains.

The only thing that's gonna implode is America in 2020....along with any hope we ever had of salvaging some vestige of American values.

Hate to be all gloom and doom, but that's what I see coming. As always... I hope I'm wrong but I'm probably not.

Its going to come down to the same 4 swing states (Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin) and while the pendulum swung to the Dems in 2018 they aren't exactly doing anything to cater to those states on the national level. I almost feel like they are going to go for the huge majority in NY/CA again, to win the popular vote and push for eliminating the electoral college more

This is the beauty of the amendment process. The framers were perfectly correct to make it difficult to amend the Constitution.

You'd be surprised (or then again, maybe not) at how many people I talk to who think that we just need a national referendum and NY and CA voters can overrule the rest of the country and get rid of the electoral college. They don't realize that it would require those very same low-population "red" states voting to give up their power, and will never happen

The RINO's will put out as many contenders as they can dig up, just to take more away from Trump, lessening his chances of a second running.

Name one.
It would be political suicide to be that challenger. Especially considering it would come from the PNAC people (specifically Bill Kristol) with the explicit goal of going to war with Iran.

The other possibility is that Trump doesn't run.

For that to happen the Mueller investigation would have to be wrapping up now with a major smoking gun. Something that would threaten Trump's business and his kids legacy. That hasn't materialized and I doubt even Mueller is willing to go past primaries to drop the hammer. I'm sure at its conclusion there will be the token failed impeachment but all has to happen in the next couple months.

Especially considering a Trump competitor would be a Bob Muller Republican (yes, we often forget he's a Republican).

Unless Trump has a heart attack from his daily dose of cheeseburgers he's running in 2020.

No way Trump would pull out another win. Even a lot of his supporters are getting sick of the drama and embarrassment every time he opens his mouth.

Just like there was no way he would win in 2016?

Never assume the vocal minority and heard through the grapevine murmur accurately reflects how people will actually vote come voting day. Truth is people as a rule of thumb don't like change or stirring the pot, and even though some 'Republicans' will b**** about Trump, most will still vote for him at the end of the day over the Democrat nomination. And there is the flip side where many of the 'Democrats' and 'Independents' that didn't vote for him will abstain or vote for him for the same not rocking the boat reasons.

Truth is most Presidents will get re-elected as long as people have not slipped downward economically, as evidenced when you look through the list of modern single term presidents and notice that for the most part, it was primarily declining economic trends that lead to their single terms.
