jeterlancer Posted February 21, 2017 at 01:20 AM Share Posted February 21, 2017 at 01:20 AM Will Buds, Impactguns, and Grabagun ship handguns with standard capacity mags to FFLs in Cook County with a customer having a Chicago billing address? If they will not, are there ways around this like changing your billing address to an address outside of Cook County/Chicago?

jeterlancer Posted February 21, 2017 at 01:31 AM Author Share Posted February 21, 2017 at 01:31 AM Why not ask Bud's, Impact Guns, and Grabagun? Sorry, I'm new here. I thought I'd ask here first. Maybe I'll ask in a different way: Which online firearms retailers will ship to FFLs in Cook County, but having a customer with a billing address in Chicago? InTheAir Posted February 21, 2017 at 01:47 AM Share Posted February 21, 2017 at 01:47 AM Buds has a pretty good restrictions page. I have found that some sites do and some don't. I have struggled getting a 10+ round magazine shipped to me in suburban Cook, so I got pretty good at finding these. https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/feeds/state_reg/illinois_restrictions.pdf
InterestedBystander Posted February 21, 2017 at 02:05 AM Share Posted February 21, 2017 at 02:05 AM I think from reading the board, you will find that the policies that companies follow varies greatly. Some follow the IL law and some just follow whatever the written policy the drunken small animals in the back room pound out on a keyboard (or so it seems). Some companies will give you one answer one time and others another the next time and they don't want to listen or have their lawyers actually look at IL law.. Some will do the shipment to an FFL outside of Cook and some will not. And wait until you get a suburb that splits across Cook and another county. This seems to apply to magazines, ammo and firearms...and some won't sell parts to various places. I'd suggest reading their purchasing policies and go from there. I think someone recently had a seller that wanted to either ship with no mags or replace the standard cap with 10 rounds. There are other FFLs to consider. jeterlancer Posted February 21, 2017 at 02:11 AM Author Share Posted February 21, 2017 at 02:11 AM So it sounds like my best bet is just to buy locally or on Gunbroker. Do major retailers like Cabela's have problems with customers having a Chicago FOID/DL address? For accessories, I'll just ship them to a family member out of state and make sure to keep a credit card with that billing address.

Do major retailers like Cabela's have problems with customers having a Chicago FOID/DL address? You're going to pay a premium tax in Cabelas ($25) + ammo tax due to Cook County. I hear their firearm sales have plummeted since that went live. There are a number of FFLs that do transfers for a reasonable cost, but you would have to check on their personal policies also. Depending on the LGS, some will not sell some items (at least in the past) to Cook residents, but that was typically modern sporting rifles IIRC due to the Chicago "AWB" even though one was allowed to own.. Raven312 Posted February 21, 2017 at 02:23 AM Share Posted February 21, 2017 at 02:23 AM Grabagun will not have any problem shipping here. I've bought 3 pistols from them and I live in Chicago. mikeyk101 Posted February 21, 2017 at 03:31 AM Share Posted February 21, 2017 at 03:31 AM I will usually use http://www.slickguns.comto shop for the pistol I want. On each add, there will usually be several stores with prices listed so I can comparison shop. I can usually find numerous retailers that have no problem selling to me and I also live in Chicago. I use an FFL that lives in Merrionette Park for all my transfers. I have bought firearms from http://www.kygunco.com that is in the same Kentucky town as Buds. I have bought from several other retailers as well. I have also bought AR15 lowers from http://www.odfirearms.com , http://www.joeboboutfitters.com , https://tbrci.com along with a few others. What has worked for me is to look at their shipping restrictions or terms and conditions pages and if there is no mention of Illinois or Chicago, I place the order. Usually if there is a problem with one, there will be several others that have no problem. And like was mentioned, by ordering online, crook county doesn't get to tax the purchase and there is usually no Illinois tax either, you just have to pay the transfer fee. So I guess I can still order from them, but just buy guns with 10rnd mags, then sell them, then buy new mags. Seems like a lot of trouble.
Bo69 Posted February 22, 2017 at 01:43 PM Share Posted February 22, 2017 at 01:43 PM So it sounds like my best bet is just to buy locally or on Gunbroker. Do major retailers like Cabela's have problems with customers having a Chicago FOID/DL address? For accessories, I'll just ship them to a family member out of state and make sure to keep a credit card with that billing address. I ordered a NANO from Gander Mountain online and picked it up in JOLIET. Which sucked I ordered on a FRIDAY they called me 7 days later told me your gun is in come pick it up. I drive there from CHICAGO fill out papers and background check and then told I had to wait another 3 days for cool down period, then drive back and forth again 3 days later.I said cool down I ORDERED 7 DAYS AGO. If they will not, are there ways around this like changing your billing address to an address outside of Cook County/Chicago?No, Bud's is very afraid of Chicago's law and do not understand them. They decide based on the address of the FOID card. There are many more dealers who will ship to a Cook County FFL. Bud's lost a lot of money when they would not send me a Browning high end bolt action. I was mad and sought another retailer who did ship to Cook. jeterlancer Posted May 17, 2017 at 03:19 AM Author Share Posted May 17, 2017 at 03:19 AM Just thought about something for Buds... I wonder if I could just give Buds an out of state billing address, but have them ship to my FFL here in IL. They'd have no way of knowing I live in Chicago and it doesn't look like they require FOID for firearm purchases.
