U.S. Rep. John Shimkus, ® Collinsville, said he's open to regulating the size of ammo clips after the Dayton shooting last weekend.

"He was able to squeeze off so many rounds," Shimkus said, referencing how many people died despite law enforcement's quick response to the scene. "You have to applaud law enforcement, but that probably can be addressed too as far as clip size and stuff like that."

Contact IL Congressman John Shimkus immediately and let him know limiting or banning magazine capacity for law abiding citizens is outrageous!

Remind him that he used to stand for our rights

WASHINGTON Congressman John Shimkus (R, Illinois-15), who holds a lifetime A rating from the National Rifle Association, voted today for several legislative measures to support and defend Americans 2nd Amendment rights.

Too often the federal government gets involved in our lives in ways it shouldnt, Shimkus said. H.R. 2406 would protect sportsmens access to federal lands for hunting, fishing and recreational shooting.

The legislation, called the Sportsmens Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act, passed the House 242-161 on Friday. Shimkus also took the pro-2nd Amendment position on two key amendments to the bill. Those amendments were:

Rep. Beyer (VA) Amendment #15 Shimkus voted NO

The amendment would prohibit an individual who is prohibited from possessing a firearm by the Gun Control Act from using a public target range. Shimkus voted against the amendment because the acquisition or possession of a firearm by a person subject to 18 U.S.C. 922(g) under any circumstance or for any purpose is already a federal felony.

Rep. Griffith (VA) Amendment #12 Shimkus voted YES

The amendment reaffirms that law-abiding Americans lawfully transporting un-loaded and inaccessible firearms are not subject to local gun control ordinances.

And while this points to state senators its safe to say that the $$$ from anti-gun groups will be infectomg the GOP even more soon

When I called Shimkus' Maryville office just now, the lady who answered the phone said that that clip on WSIL was "misconstrued" as it was a 10 second clip from a 20 minute interview. I then suggested that Mr. Shimkus needs to get on top of this ASAP to set the record straight.

The DC office read me the email update he sends out every so often and he's quoted the email where Shimkus stated that new gun laws are not the answer as these shootings are a cultural issue - not guns. (I'd already read it and knew what it said)

I told the staff member that it sounds like Shimkus is talking out of both sides of his mouth. Either he believes that or he doesn't.

Sounds like backpedaling to me.
