countyline Posted October 6, 2017 at 04:23 AM Share Posted October 6, 2017 at 04:23 AM I've always considered Rauner a semi-reliable stopgap for any anti-gun legislation that may make it through the GA, but after he threw pro-lifers under the bus with HB40, that is a questionable assumption. Rauner's north shore friends are just as anti-gun as they are pro-abortion, if not more so. If Rauner thinks his chances of re-election are slim, he may throw us under the bus as well. Just my 2-cents worth. Thoughts ?
Windermere Posted October 6, 2017 at 04:32 AM Share Posted October 6, 2017 at 04:32 AM I wouldn't be surprised if he does. I think right now he is desperate for anything. If he was an honorable man he would step aside and let someone else keep the lifeline on for an almost non-existent Republican Party in this state. GTX63 Posted October 6, 2017 at 10:30 AM Share Posted October 6, 2017 at 10:30 AM With the party imbalanced so heavily to one side in Illinois, it isn't about what a Republican Governor can do, but how much can he prevent. Whatever pushback he has attempted has been done while his feet are sliding back, and he certainly hasn't rallied much enthusiasm to his goals. He has more than distanced himself from the president, signs on to karp like HB40 and tends (to me) to spew a little too much lip service to conservative without any results.Maybe he is just a seat warmer; maybe the time he spends in that seat is time a Democrat doesn't and that is the best we will get. RoadyRunner Posted October 6, 2017 at 11:54 AM Share Posted October 6, 2017 at 11:54 AM Question is... who do you dislike least out of the options presented? I’ll take Rauner any day... and I hope that everyone that’s upset about his signing of HB40 that they realize that any D Governor would also have signed it. As they say, don’t throw he baby out with the bath water.

Xwing Posted October 6, 2017 at 07:34 PM Share Posted October 6, 2017 at 07:34 PM Politics is always the lesser of two evils. Yep. And Rauner is giving in a lot. But this is Illinois; he really has no choice. As much as I disagree with a few things he's done recently, he will still be 1,000,000% better than whoever his Democrat opponent will be. I'd much rather have a luke-warm half-friend as Governor than an avowed enemy...

Nod Posted October 7, 2017 at 02:10 AM Share Posted October 7, 2017 at 02:10 AM Government should have no say in the abortion business. A woman should have the right to choose, not some dumb a** politician.

Rangerdeepv Posted October 9, 2017 at 02:49 PM Share Posted October 9, 2017 at 02:49 PM He is still better than any ding-a-ling the dumocrats have at the moment. He has my vote next time unless he goes Kirk or McCain on us!
gunuser17 Posted October 9, 2017 at 02:55 PM Share Posted October 9, 2017 at 02:55 PM The problem now is that none of us have any clue on how he will deal with any gun related bill after his flips on sanctuary and abortion issues. So, to me the need is to find a viable primary alternative since I have no faith in how he would act on gun issues or any other issue in the future. mauserme Posted October 9, 2017 at 07:27 PM Share Posted October 9, 2017 at 07:27 PM My thought right now is that he can't be a better Democrat than the field that's already fighting for that nomination, so he has to continue to distinguish himself from them. Gun rights is still an available issue if he wants it. If he doesn't, then he's one of the crowd.
Xwing Posted October 9, 2017 at 08:46 PM Share Posted October 9, 2017 at 08:46 PM I'd much rather have a luke-warm half-friend as Governor than an avowed enemy... Are you sure he is even "luke-warm" any more?? Compared to Pritzker? Yes, certainly! Pritzker has pushed hard to absolutely destroy the 2nd amendment, and will make it one of his policy goals to harm legal gun owners in any way possible. Kennedy will do the same. From what I've seen, Rauner is pro-2a. Even if he didn't care about it one way or the other, that would still be better than a determined enemy of freedom.
