sleepercaprice1 Posted June 26, 2012 at 09:26 PM Posted June 26, 2012 at 09:26 PM I read in the reports from last weekends pride parade that attendance was approximately 850,000. Why is it that we can't get 1% of that to attend IGOLD? Is our message that unpopular?
soundguy Posted June 26, 2012 at 09:39 PM Posted June 26, 2012 at 09:39 PM IGOLD doesn't feature nudity and alcohol in the streets. Pride is like a 6 hour Mardi Gras.
scough Posted June 26, 2012 at 09:40 PM Posted June 26, 2012 at 09:40 PM IC doesn't hand out Rainbow Clown wigs and encourage scantily-clad dress? I dunno, but you have to factor in the circus performance.
Jason4567 Posted June 26, 2012 at 09:55 PM Posted June 26, 2012 at 09:55 PM You are comparing a huge party in the street (in a neighborhood known for partying) to organized political action at a state capital. Not exactly apples to apples. And BTW, all the people at the pride parade are not there for LBGT rights. Vast majority are there to party and watch the spectacle. I hear it is pretty crazy, but have never gone myself.
Paul Kirsey Posted June 26, 2012 at 10:00 PM Posted June 26, 2012 at 10:00 PM Not to mention the willing accomplices in the media are more than willing to overestimate the numbers. After all it's fashionable to support the gay community these days thanks to the Hollywood left. Nothing is wrong anymore, it's just different.

Lou Posted June 26, 2012 at 10:16 PM Posted June 26, 2012 at 10:16 PM Certain CPD officers postulate that a good percentage of spectators are middle-aged white males just out appreciating the abundance of exposed flesh. It seems it is cheaper than flying down to New Orleans for marti Gra and just as titillating???
xmikex Posted June 26, 2012 at 10:21 PM Posted June 26, 2012 at 10:21 PM Pride Parade is a weekend-long alcohol-fueled dance party with massive corporate sponsorship. Clearly iGOLD needs more floats, Pet Shop Boys blasting from every speaker and as much alcohol as we can muster. It's how we'll party when we get CCW (with a lot less rainbows and more Olive Drab, realtree and multicam - AND maybe LESS Pet Shop Boys / Lady Gaga). What we need to do though is coordinate with Pink Pistols and get a float / leafleters / tabling at the event. GLBT folks get targeted by gay bashers all the time. It's time for GLBT folks to be able to defend themselves. I'm willing to help put together fliers - and Halsted Market Days is HUGE and would be worth tabling...

Gunslinger Posted June 27, 2012 at 01:54 AM Posted June 27, 2012 at 01:54 AM So will the next IGOLD be nude except for belts with holsters?
TyGuy Posted June 27, 2012 at 03:04 AM Posted June 27, 2012 at 03:04 AM I'll wear my riding chaps next year.
Lou Posted June 27, 2012 at 03:11 PM Posted June 27, 2012 at 03:11 PM I'll wear my riding chaps next year. OOOwwwwwie That image just broke my mind.
TyGuy Posted June 27, 2012 at 03:17 PM Posted June 27, 2012 at 03:17 PM Believe me, I wish I had them on three weeks ago when I low sided. My knee has recovered but it was no fun. I do have a sweet scar though.

I did a quick google search - the Pink Pistols marched in the SF Pride parade - in Nancy Pelosi's district. I don't know how active they are in Chicago. Anyone have any contacts?
Molly B. Posted June 27, 2012 at 09:20 PM Posted June 27, 2012 at 09:20 PM I don't know how active they are in Chicago. Anyone have any contacts? A few individuals but not as a large group. Yes, we do.

I'm straight, but I worked with a guy nick-named Uncle Tommy several years back who was trying to get a Pink Pistols chapter active in Chgo. We attracted a few members, held a couple get togethers at a suburban range and we did march in the Pride Parade carrying a banner. I wore a hat and dark glasses, but I marched :-)I still have my Pink Pistols T Shirt. ckmorley
Drylok Posted June 30, 2012 at 03:37 PM Posted June 30, 2012 at 03:37 PM I think we've increased our attendence pretty good in a short amount of time. We've gone from "dozens" of supporters to "hundreds" in about 4 years lol
