We've got 66 now. We're pretty sure of Moultrie and Macon, I still think Coach will get a call that Douglas has passed it. It's proposed in Peoria and Rock Island. DW is working in McLean. Things are shakin' in Lake and McHenry. We'll have 70 by IGOLD!!

What's going on in Mason and Menard?? Those are two rural counties with a hunting tradition. Do we have anyone that has contacts there or can make the contact?? Maybe just a "blind letter" to the respective boards would work. If this won't pass in Havana, home of the Ducks, I'll buy a round of ammo for all!!!

AB

Mason Co. has seen the resolution, I send updates to the county clerk, but I think they are afraid to touch it. We need someone in-county to take the bull by the horns. Know anyone in Mason Co.?

Molly B.

What???? All those tough duck hunters from Havana and Bath that hang out at the Brick and eat pickeled beets from the jar are afraid of a little old resolution??? C'mon Mason County, where are you????

It's not the duck hunters that are afraid - it's the county board members . . .

Do County Board members hunt ducks? Apparently not, in this case!

I don't understand the fear factor for the duck hunters or the County Board members. Can someone please explain? Jim.

My son used to live and work in Havana, Mason Co. Without knowing for sure, I will guarantee you that the county board has at least one duckhunter on it if not approaching 50%. Duckhunting is the number one hobby in Mason Co, right above fishing and partaking of adult beverages while boating on the IL river. The mascot/nickname of the Havana High School is the "Havana Ducks". Babies there learn to blow a duck call (very well too) almost before they can talk. Duck blind leases are passed down by last will and testament and are more hotly contested than inheritance of farm land and money!

Sorry I was presumptuous, I thought everyone knew about the hunting heritage of Havana. P.S. - "The Brick" that I mentioned is a local watering hole in Bath, IL that is the local stop for hunters after the day is over. Lots of local history there, some best forgotten!!!!

AB

Edited to add: Sctman800: I guess the "fear factor" is fear of reprisal somehow from someone by passing the resolution. After all, that whole area was a hangout for the "Outfit" and Capone and his buddies back in the day.

You wouldn't be part of that "best forgotten" part, would ya?

Went my first 2 yrs to WISU. Know Havana well. One of my best friends was a "Duck"!

I think it's the usual political fear - having a record of your vote for or against something coming back to bite you in the butt. Most "politicians" don't want to go out on a limb like that unless they had to - someone outside the county asking for this resolution to be passed doesn't carry much weight.

What we need is for the folks in Mason County to support the resolution and urge their board members to pass it, then the board members have to answer to their own constituents - that carries more weight. If any of you know anyone in Mason County please pass the word.

Coach, no I learned of Havana, Bath, the Brick and Matanzas Beach way too late in life to have any "best forgotten" incidents there! Now, we'll not talk about 20 years earlier and 200 miles south!!!!!

I did visit there enough recently to know that the resolution will stand a much better chance if proposed by someone in the county. I do know a couple of fellows that still live there. (Surprised Coach??) One is a native, one moved in but respected. I'll drop them a note and see if they can fill me in on the county politics and might move forward on this if nobody here has a better avenue.

Surely we have someone here from Mason county!!

I wonder if Mr. Louis Perez contacted his buddies in the NRA. At least they are keeping it as a movement by the people and requesting the peopl contact their boards members. I am glad to see that the NRA didn't/hasn't tried to take credit for the 2A Res. Keep up the good work everyone. All our hard work and efforts will pay off in the end. Patients is key. I look forward to the day our rights in Illinois are restored and "legally" available again.

I recieved this email:

This update just in from McHenry County -

The 2A Res is being sponsored by Nick Provenzano (chairman of the Law & Justice Committee) and has the backing of

our County Chairman Ken Koehler. It is in the Law & Justice Committee

and we hope to have our 13 "Yeas" within 30 days.

The gentlemen leading the cause in McHenry feel the Resolution is in good hands and stands an excellent chance of passing. The 13 "yeas" is in reference to the majority vote they will need from the 24 member board.

Will let you know if further support is needed.

Good news, Molly. That's the 7th most populous county in the state, right behind Winnebago (which passed the resolution).

Of the 10 most populous counties... Cook, Dupage, Lake, Will, Kane, Winnebago, McHenry, Madison, St. Claire, Sangamon.

I've updated this thread:

There still remain LOTS of relatively rural counties, where I suspect just a little effort could get them on board!!! What's say we move on those counties? A little divide and conquer?

List #1) Mostly rural counties that should be relatively easy to get on-board.

List #2) Counties that enclose a medium-sized city, where opposition might be increased.

List #3) Counties that comprise the greater Chicago metro area, where opposition will be the strongest.

List #1 Relatively rural counties.

Jersey (snooter is working on this county)

Scott (Ashdump and GarandFan have written this county)

Mason (interest has been expressed in starting an effort)

Whiteside (Ashdump and GarandFan have written this county)

List #2 Counties containing medium-sized cities.

St. Clair - East St. Louis (interest has been expressed in starting an effort)

Madison - East St. Louis (Lou has contacted at least one commissioner for this county)

Sangamon - Springfield (if interested in helping contact the Sangamon County Rifle Association)

Macon - Decatur (tplane37 is working on this county) Resolution Pending

Champaign - Urbana/Champaign (the resolution failed a vote to move to full board in this county -- Ol' Coach is working on this county)

McLean - Bloomington/Normal (Federal Farmer is working on this county)

Peoria - Peoria (tplane and colleagues are working on this county) Resolution Pending

Rock Island - Rock Island and Moline (the resolution failed to move to full board -- gunnmen01 and whyzdom are still working on this county?)

I've spoken with a friend that owns a gun shop in Whiteside.

He's talking to people about approaching the county board.

In Carroll county I'm trying to recruit some relatives there.

Great! I think having support from inside the county is be best way to get the resolution before these county boards.

Good work!

What's the scoop on Peoria County? Wasn't it supposed to have it's second reading in the Committee on Jan 22? So is it moving to the Full Board, or is it still hung up at the moment?

We have at least 3 counties that will vote on the Res on Valentine's Day, Moultrie, Macon and Peoria. Any more on that date?? If they all go green, that'll give us 69, or 67.6%!!!!

Oops, I missed that one. This could be a very Happy V-Day! The party caucuses at are happening at 6:30 p.m, and then the meeting at 7:15. I think I will show up early just to be nosey. Good luck in Peoria and Moultrie on the 14th...so I assume things are looking good in those as well?

Kane is moving ever so slowly. I inquired as to what committee is currently entertaining the resolution. After checking for me the board member said none! He said nothing was in motion until I speak and suggested that during my brief presentation/comments that I request the board direct the resolution to the appropriate committee.

As a precinct committeman I attended the last precinct meeting for Piatt County in January in which this subject was brought up. It has overwhelming approval county wide.

It passed in Piatt county last August. See it here

Are they unaware of it's passage, or just stating that they know it has passed and support it?

BTW, welcome to the forum

As a precinct committee we were talking about throwing our approval officially in with the rest of the county resolution as another supporting organization. We were already aware of the passing.

Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks for clearing it up. The 2A (and the rest of the Bill of Rights) needs all of the support it can get! I'm glad you are involved in the process :P

Welcome to the site, Four Stars! Nice to have another member from this part of the state!

Do you go to GSL meetings? Got a seat yet onthe IGOLD bus from Champaign? You can board either in Urbana or Decatur.

Sorry...don't mean to overwhelm you on your first visit!

Bet you know Clyde Foster and family!

Thanks again for the welcome Coach. I've got to call yet for a reserved seat on the bus. The last couple of days has been hectic what with intense fog, flooding, insuring we have enough judges today, etc. We only had two out of five election judges and no more alternates for the entire day and they worked themselves into the ground. Disappointing turnout.

I'll be boarding from Decatur and will be seeing if I can grab a couple more to come along.

2A Res will be on the Douglas County Board agenda Feb 20. Forecast is sunny!

By Feb 21, should be at 70 counties...and counting!
