mauserme Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:50 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:50 PM Anyone Who spoke for Madigan / the state? A fool that admitted that the statute was over broad... In what way? What was said?
drdoom Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:50 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:50 PM Bet O'l Coach was sitting there (albeit invisible) LHAO at the states attorney.
NakPPI Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:51 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:51 PM Waived rebuttal? Why? You waive rebuttal when your opposition does such a poor job that you have nothing to respond to. THAT IS HOW BAD THE STATE WAS.
Gray Peterson Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:51 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:51 PM Typing mobile here.. In my opinion there is no way that we lose this. All 3 judges were snickering at some of the states responses. heck, Posner flat out told the state that he was spewing rhetoric, not legal arguments. Then both Gura and Freeborn's attorney waived rebuttal because they knew that they had won after the state's disastrous arguments. Holy crap, they waived rebuttal?
NakPPI Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:52 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:52 PM Anyone Who spoke for Madigan / the state? A fool that admitted that the statute was over broad... In what way? What was said? He literally said that the statute was over broad. No joke.
TyGuy Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:53 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:53 PM Waived rebuttal? Why? You waive rebuttal when your opposition does such a poor job that you have nothing to respond to. THAT IS HOW BAD THE STATE WAS.I figured you would want to drive your point home, but it must have been really BAD if they felt that no argument needed to follow. WOW, just wow. I'm walking on sunshine, oooohhhhh

Yas Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:53 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:53 PM Yas - lol on nepotism. A: "My son is a lawyer you know."B: "He's got the job!"C: "Do you want to know if he is any good or not?"B: "No!" Think about it Richie daley took the bar exam how many times? On average I believe you can safely say District attys. are ether in it to gain political power, or were not a sharp enough pencil in law school to make it in private practice or big corporations. There is the rare odd lot that are in it for the honorable reasons.

mauserme Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:57 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:57 PM He literally said that the statute was over broad. No joke. Oh my gosh, I thought you meant that figuratively..

Federal Farmer Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:57 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 04:57 PM Waived rebuttal? Why? I have no insight into our legal strategy, but I think this is the ultimate closing b!tch-slap. IMHO says: "all that you just spewed is not even worth responding to".

Davey Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:18 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:18 PM Listening now, taking a break from Diablo 3.
pyre400 Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:23 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:23 PM Waived rebuttal? Why? IMO -wise salesmen quit selling after the purchase. No need to oversell. ETA - taking a knee in the final seconds of the football game.
Yas Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:29 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:29 PM Charles Cooper for the states argument.
Davey Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:31 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:31 PM Ugh, they kept drilling Gura asking if a state could ban carrying guns in certain places. Tough crowd.
Blackhawk067 Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:36 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:36 PM Ugh, they kept drilling Gura asking if a state could ban carrying guns in certain places. Tough crowd. He should have just conceded that point about carrying in bars and moved on. Most states don't allow you to carry in a bar, and frankly, I don't see a problem with that. Liquor stores = fine, bars...he should have just said, "most states don't allow you to carry in an establishment that makes more than X% of their revenue on liquor sales." He ate up most of his time not budging on an issue that shouldn't be an issue. That same justice, however, is the one making our case drilling the state. It's nice to know that someone understands the two basic verbs "bear" and "keep" and the difference between them.
Molly B. Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:38 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:38 PM Enjoy the audio recording folks. I plan to listen over and over again just to relive the moment I realized the state was getting their hind ends handed to them!! Sorry for not getting word to everyone but we were required to turn off electronic devices, then afterwards we met with the attorneys, then it was back on the road out of the city. I don't think things could have gone better considering we were in an Illinois court in Chicago! Afterwards Todd said pinch me and I did!! We were all stunned and I mean STUNNED at the line of questioning. This was a good day. Now, if we can just get a good and quick ruling.
citrix_guy Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:41 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:41 PM Wow, right out of the gate first 2 minutes one of the judges is asking for "balancing"... While Gura almost is trying to educate him... I dont like this.By 2:30 he is asking about Lunatics with guns.. I dont like it all.
NakPPI Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:42 PM Posted June 8, 2012 at 05:42 PM That same justice, however, is the one making our case drilling Cooper. It's nice to know that someone understands the two basic verbs "bear" and "keep" and the difference between them. That's Posner for you.
